42 Lorde Yellow Flicker Beat

This is risen quite a lot since the film came out yesterday. Nice that it's still on the Radio 1 playlist this week to accompany the film for 4 days. Last year, after keeping Atlas on the playlist for a ridiculous amount of time, they chose to take it off the week before the film's release, which made no sense to me.

 

Ideally Lorde would be on the A-list next week - or even just kept on the B-list, but she's been taken off. She could have probably scored another top 40.

 

 

They probabaly figure if the films out it will help the song so they removed it.

Doing quite well! I'm pretty sure a lot of the Xmas songs ahead of it is due to them being featured on the Now That's What I Call Christmas! compilation. Will be interesting to see how it does come December because I know one Radio DJ said he'd be playing the song a lot to try and make it a Xmas classic! And hopefully Heart will get on board too (Heart Essex recently gave a play to Mariah's AIWFCIY, so expect Xmas songs to pick up in airplay quite a bit in the next couple weeks). :D

Radio 1 played it and Kelly Clarkson last year randomly even though they didnt playlist them, which i found strange and annoying!

 

Clean Bandit 40% of BA now, although normally that lead would be huge, the No1 is falling fast!!

I thought since the songs were released by artists that may appeal to their listener base they might support them and as i said they did actually give them random plays!

R1 played One More Sleep 20 times outside of the chart last year and Kelly Clarkson's Underneath The Tree got similar treatment. I didn't realise Scott Mills had said he's going to play OMS this year? R1 are very strict with their Christmas song playing. THey are only allowed a very limited amount of Christmas plays depending on the week, they seem to focus on the classics until it's like 2/1 week until Christmas where they start playing Coldplay etc.

Kelly Clarkson is a radio 1 favourite for some reason. My Life Would Suck Without You has been played a couple of times this year, despite being 6/7 years old, and Since U Been Gone, which is even older. But what's crazy is 'What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)' is on constant rotation on Radio 1. It's 3 years old, but it's been played 70 times in 2014 (Loads of songs on the B-list this year have had less plays than that)! Sometimes I year it so much I wonder if it's on their playlist! So I really wouldn't rule Kelly being playlisted if she comes back with something good.

I've heard Radio 1 play songs from as far back as the late 90's, so I can understand them playing Since U Been Gone occasionally, especially since that's one of the defining pop songs of the 00's imo.

Yeah, I assumed he was talking about one of his local radio DJs that none of us would know (if it was a Radio 1 person he probably would've specified who).

I don't think Radio 1 will ever go for Kelly again sadly. :( I think the flop of 'Dark Side' put her in their bad books, and sadly they didn't touch 'Catch My Breath'.

 

I'd say with Leona it's fairly unlikely but not impossible, stranger things have happened. Depends how much her new label push her eventual comeback.

I think Leona's new management could make a difference, it depends what writers and producers she works with, and the strength of the music she comes back with. If she comes back with another 'Trouble', she won't be supported. But if she comes back with another Ryan Tedder penned track she's got a chance.

:lol: I read what Environment had written as a radio 1 dj said they would play it which intrigued me as to who it was but he actually said one radio dj. An easy mistake to make lol.

 

Of course yeh they always play music thats not on the playlist i just thought since they played Leona/Kelly randomly last decemeber why not just give the songs which were clearly popular some playlist support.

I agree but they have been supported in the past 5 years so i thought they might playlist a popular xmas release from them to make new contemporary xmas classics.
