Tinie Tempah) - 1-2-1-2-3-4-2-1-2-1-2-3-5-5-6-8-6-7-8-11-13-10-12-13-... (24+ weeks) LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LOVE Cheryl's comeback was HIGHLY anticipated for me, especially with my huge Girls Aloud love coming back to me over the past couple of years and how I now consider them as my all-time favourite artist. Her solo material has been quite hit and miss, mostly hit with the singles, ESPECIALLY Fight For This Love and Call My Name  but her first two albums are a bit messy overall. A Million Lights was very good though and that gave me high hopes for fourth album Only Human. I remember listening to Radio 1 on my headphones before school waiting for Crazy Stupid Love to receive its premiere, I couldn't contain my excitement really. It was love at first listen, the saxophone parts were unexpected but unlike others, I definitely enjoyed that addition. The track has spent 20 non-consecutive weeks in my top 10, including four weeks at #1, and has never left my top 20 (hadn't left the top 13 by the cut-off point for this chart!). Is it particularly innovative or new? No, not at all, it's just a throwaway pop track, but there's nothing wrong with that, it's just a lot of fun and a real feelgood track. Tinie's rap adds to the song, including the iconic lyric "she had my D now she's dickmatised" *_* Seeing the track go to #1 despite being released against a song that was ultimately a bigger hit was a fantastic moment - many doubted that Cheryl would make the top but she proved that she still had it and Crazy Stupid Love helped her eventually become a record breaker, more on that later! Crazy Stupid Love sadly only makes #3 but it's ridiculously strong at this end, *so* close to #2. Cheryl's own track I Don't Care is still to come, will it go all the way? :o
December 21, 201410 yr Crazy stupid love not #1 let alone top 3 :o :o :o Anyway it was such a step up from call my name and a great catchy song, the saxophone is also amazing but Tinie's part is a bit useless though. Anyway all in all a fantastic song
December 22, 201410 yr Author Songs of the Year http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/ReedDeming-CrashTestDummy.png 3 Reed Deming - Crash Test Dummy (Broken) - 1-2-1-2-4-3-6-6-6-5-8-... (11+ weeks) Who dat who dat? No, I've not revealed the wrong song, it's more what the vast majority of you are thinking. Who is Reed Deming? Why is he so high in my EOY chart? Reed was an X Factor USA season 2 contestant, who got knocked out by mentor Britney Spears at judges' houses. He's released two EPs since then, and this track was the first single from 2nd EP Satellites. I randomly stumbled across Crash Test Dummy (Broken) when browsing through suggested artists on iTunes. For whatever reason, I'd remembered a young male artist called Daniel J who released a track called A Girl Like You during the year, and was interested in more of this kind of music so looked on his suggested artists. Reed was on there, so I had a look and previewed this track randomly. It struck a chord with me immediately, so I downloaded it and never looked back. The lyrics of the track are basically about acceptance. The first like if "What if I stumble, what if I fall?", and one of the key lines in the chorus if "if I'm broken, would you still love me?". I'm sure we can all relate to this message in some way, having been scared of acceptance from somebody. I don't take "broken" to literally mean broken, I take it to mean "different", and quite often many of us will think we're "broken" or "wrong" when in reality we're just "different". A lyric in the second verse is especially touching - "what if I like girls? What if boys?". Reed's just 15 and as far as I'm aware is straight (he talks about girls in other songs), but to hear a lyric like this in a song by someone so young is quite special and it's definitely the lyric I can relate to most, as somebody who has not come out to his parents, I'm naturally quite worried how they'd react. Anyway, enough of what the song means, it went straight to #1 in my chart, perhaps providing a bit of a shock as it's virtually unknown on Buzzjack, although it reached the final in BJSC Rejects just this month (it DNQ'd when I sent it, as I expected as it's not really the type of song that does well there). And I've written a whole lot more for this than I intended and most won't read it but thanks to those who did x
December 22, 201410 yr csl took ages to grow on me but it's pretty good now for me, i learned how to ignore the out of tune saxophone and it's quite a good pop song after that. the 'lalalala love' parts are my fav that reed deming song is good too, wasn't expecting to like it all when i saw it in my semi but i kept going back to it. quite a nice lil song :funky: thanks for the discovery
December 22, 201410 yr I have missed so much !! The Vamps sleighing rightfully :funky: Cheryl das slag how lmao:Â And Reed! I just read your commentary, and call me a SAP but that 3rd paragraph actually moved me  I know what this song means to you, but to see you put it into words makes it make so much more sense. Incredible that a song can relate to you so closely and i know you can find acceptance through those lyrics which must mean the world to you. It's a beautiful, simple song and you really explain why so wonderfully <3

I can see why the sax bits of Crazy Stupid Love are offputting, it does seem quite out of tune but idk, I enjoy it  No problem! It makes me really happy to know some people made a discovery out of it, I never sent it to BJSC aiming for success so for it to even do well in the Rejects was delightful to see! I highly recommend his Satellites EP, you might enjoy it, definitely take a listen if you get a moment, absolutely flawless  I have missed so much !! I thought no-one would end up reading my Reed essay let alone get moved by it  It really is such a stunning track and I hope it's a track that'll be with me for many many years, it's so relatable and the fact it's just a 15 year old singing it actually makes it even more special, such a mature track for someone of that age. You enjoying it in BJSC warmed my heart a lot cause I was convinced it would be another Heroes In Defeat by Ulrik from last year - a song that I well and truly ADORE but no-one else really got, so for you to "get" it was really wonderful to see and made my BJSC mission a success :heehee:
December 22, 201410 yr Author Artists of the Year http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/TheVamps-1.png 1 The Vamps It's been a while since we've touched on the artist countdown, but there's a recap below if you've forgotten. Shocker: One Direction were not in my top 5 artists of the year! Mainly because for the first half of the year, not much was happening with 1D and Midnight Memories/You & I are not amongst their best singles so I wasn't quite at the height of my stanning. FOUR and its singles have well and truly turned that around but that was only out for one week before the countdown started x So The Vamps took over my affections for the vast majority of the year. I heard Can We Dance last year after seeing it doing well on pre-orders and it was love at first listen. I never thought they'd become one of the biggest boybands in the country following that though. Can We Dance has remained their biggest hit but they've had four further top 10 hits in the UK and one of the biggest debut albums of the year. Can We Dance was the first of five #1 singles in my chart for them, plus several other charting album tracks. I stayed up late for the Irish release of Meet The Vamps in the hope that it would leak. I watched Big Brother Canada live that night at like, 2-3am, and then the album leaked lol so I stayed up even later to listen, unable to wait til the morning. Then I met them several times. They tend to do signings in groups of two, so I met Connor and Brad at an album signing, and Connor and Tristan at a Somebody To You single signing, and all four at a photocall meet and greet in Oxford Street (proof <- be warned, my face is visible x), so my tally stands at Connor 3, Brad 2, Tristan 2 and James 1. Annoyingly uneven and I've barely even met James lol, he was stood quite far away from me for that photo and in the 20 seconds I was there (they moved you in and out SO quickly), I never spoke to him, oops. Or Tristan but I saw him at the single signing so all is good. A special album rating for my #1 artist of the year: 10.0 Wild Heart 10.0 Last Night 10.0 Somebody To You 11.0 Can We Dance 09.0 Girls On TV 08.5 Risk It All 10.0 Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart) 08.0 Another World 09.5 Move My Way 09.5 Shout About It 09.0 High Hopes 10.0 She Was the One 09.0 Dangerous 10.0 Lovestruck 10.0 Smile -- 08.5 On the Floor 08.0 Golden 08.0 Fall Flawless. RECAP 1 The Vamps 2 Hunter Hayes 3 Cheryl 4 Lily Allen 5 Iggy Azalea
December 22, 201410 yr Author Songs of the Year http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Cheryl-IDontCare.png 2 Cheryl - I Don't Care - 1-1-2-3-3-2-4-... (7+ weeks) Just losing out on being my EOY #1 is Cheryl. Crazy Stupid Love had me hyped up a LOT for her fourth album Only Human, so naturally I was EXTREMELY excited for single 2, which was described as a summer pop tune. When I Don’t Care premiered, it did not disappoint. I was sat in the toilets at school with my headphones in listening to the radio premiere on Capital and I almost jumped up and down with excitement about how good it was. I listened to it on repeat all day long. It ended up blocking One Direction’s Steal My Girl from the #1 spot for two weeks! Overall in my chart, it hasn’t done quite as well as Crazy Stupid Love did, but equally, the release of CSL felt a lot more drawn out so naturally my hype lasted longer. I Don’t Care has still done extremely well in my chart and gave Cheryl her second #1 single. The music video was another high point for this track, it’s suitably summery, which makes me think that it should have received a summer release rather than a November release. Perhaps three pre-album singles would have worked? Crazy Stupid Love could have been released the day after her BGT performance, meaning I Don’t Care could have impacted during August, followed by Only Human the song, followed by the album, in November. Could’ve extended her record of #1s even further. The official chart performance of this track was incredibly disappointing. The high point is of course the fact it reached #1, and became a record breaking song as Cheryl now holds the most #1 singles by a British female, a record previously held by Geri Halliwell, also recently tied by Rita Ora. Cheryl pulled ahead with her two 2014 singles, however, and made a great moment in pop music. However, it tumbled down the charts after that and will struggle hugely to sell 300k. A non-#1? Yeah, probably, but it got her the record which is all I really care about.
December 22, 201410 yr Author Songs of the Year http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/IggyAzalea-Fancy.png 1 Iggy Azalea - Fancy (feat. Charli XCX) - 5-7-1-3-3-2-4-4-2-4-5-4-4-3-2-7-9-8-9-10-11-15-19-23-15-13-13-17-19-20-16-20-26-23-26-29-34-33-38-... (39+ weeks) Iggy Azalea is just about the only rapper I well and truly LOVE. Nicki Minaj is great, and Pitbull/will.i.am are huge guilty pleasures, but none live up to Iggy for me. Her storytelling is great in tracks like Work but it’s tunes like Fancy where she can shine. If you told me a year ago that Iggy would’ve actually done a song even BETTER than Work, I’d have laughed. Work was an incredible track and it took AGES to grow on me but it finally hit the spot and it was my EOY #4 last year, behind two Ulrik Munther tracks and Jennifer Lopez’s summer song Live It Up. I first heard Fancy in its demo form, then entitled Leave It. The track in this form did not contain Charli XCX’s chorus and instead had a chorus from Iggy. I was quite disappointed by it and was hoping it stayed only as a demo. When Fancy then premiered, I was disappointed at it being Leave It, I didn’t like it at first and Charli’s chorus annoyed me. This was such a shame for me as I LOVED Work, Bounce and Change Your Life. It slowly grew on me, eventually entering my chart at #5. Its climb to #1 two weeks later was supported by the music video, without a DOUBT my favourite one of the year. I’ve never seen the film it’s based on but it impressed me regardless, it was so much fun and brought the song to life. It went on to spend 20 weeks in my top 10, and 43 weeks in the top 40 before eventually dropping out (39 weeks up to the cut-off point for the EOY chart). If I never heard it again after my first listen, it wouldn’t even be top 250. But here it is, at #1. What surprised me even more was its commercial success. Iggy hadn’t had any HUGE hits up to this point and barely made a dent on the Hot 100, but it went on to be a UK top 5 hit and a gold-certified smash, as well as a #1 on the Hot 100! It was absolutely DELIGHTFUL to see and I was so proud of Iggy for finally breaking through. So that’s my 2014 EOY finished, thanks to everyone who read and commented along the way and I hope everyone has a fantastic Christmas. Here’s to another year of GREAT music! Recap coming in the next post…

December 22, 201410 yr Not a huge fan of 'Fancy' but a great result for Cheryl with a relatively new song! As always a fantastic countdown Joseph! :D
December 22, 201410 yr two great songs there to finish off what has been a great countdown i was really surprised how great i dont care was when i first head, just so summery and fun. the video totally enhanced the song for me, i love her facial expressions throughout and her personality really shines.  fancy was a track that took a while to grow on me too, at first i thought it was a mess and then i started to like it ironically because it was such a mess and now i just love it! such a jam  still to come in my countdown though not quite #1..Â
December 22, 201410 yr Absolute stunning countdown Joseph, I have loved reading this  Amazing top 2, I don't care is great and fancy is flawless, the latter is definitely one of the best songs this year :wub:Â However you NEED to watch Clueless ASAP :) Edited December 22, 201410 yr by Ultraviolence1989
