LOL at streaming gifting Sam Smith two top ten hits on the same week at the expense of Taylor Swift in both cases. Shouldn't have removed 1989 from Spotify...

-_- 'Shake It Off' and 'Blank Space' are infinitely superior to the Sam Smith songs, how very annoying.

It has just occurred to me that the Gareth Malone monstrosity is my birthday #1. :manson:

You'll always remember your 18th birthday with this smash. ^_^

Blank Space might find it hard to break the top 10 without streaming now....

No way. It's been shunted down a bit on iTunes by all the new releases but it barely has any airplay yet and nearly got to #1 on iTunes based on just the video premiere, I'm pretty certain that it'll be a #1 contender in a few weeks (maybe could get there in the new year).

I think at best it'll have a I Knew You Were Trouble Like run, can't see it ever genuinely challenging for #1 with zero streaming points.

It's probably the best bet for a sales #1 that doesn't get there overall (in the near future anyway).
Sam Smith is doing so well, 3 singles within the top 20 and a 4th further down the chart and all from a huge selling album. I like all his singles apart from the awful money on my mind.Poor Paloma though, really wanted the new single to do more.
9 N 1 Sam Smith Like I Can

10 10 16 Sam Smith I'm Not The Only One (15wks T75)

11 R 2 Taylor Swift Blank Space (1wk T75 (NE))

12 5 13 Taylor Swift Shake It Off

21 16 14 George Ezra Blame It On Me

22 19 25 George Ezra Budapest (24wks T75)

Quite amusing to see three different artists with back to back singles in the Top 30 :)

There was a (unsuccessful) campaign to get Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine back in the Top 40 with 'The Only Living Boy in New Cross' last week - did they get to the Top 200 in the end?

Nope. Not Top 200. I tried the Indie and Rock/Alternative charts where below the T5 in those charts you can see entries from 200-1000, but it isn't even there. : (

Thanks Doctor Blind - wow, just goes to show you how well things are selling naturally and that the day of the chart campaign is pretty much over. Oh well, I wasted 79p buying it again! Worth it though...
Not sure about the end of the chart campaign, but it certainly needs to be more publicised than the Carter USM one (I for one had no idea there was a campaign for it) an probably also needs to have a reason for it to be in a certain week. "Ding Dong..." certainly worked as a campaign thing not that long ago...

The reason was that this weekend sees their last ever gigs - Saturday at Brixton Academy is the last. The campaign didn't really get much further than an e-mail to the fans list by their manager though.

I reckon chart campaigns will only ever work if the media get hold of it, or if it's tied to a huge group (e.g. supporters of a big football club). The only reason the media have for getting hold of a campaign usually is because it's in pretty poor taste. c.f. Ding Dong.

Mind you, they did get Altern 8 in to 33 in the Christmas chart last year - not entirely sure how they managed that one!
