They just got worse as the year went on, a bit like the Strokes but in super fast forward like when the Chart Show used to be on ITV and they FFWD the records that they didn't play. Such a shame after that potential on "Real" : ( , but anyway the video with Ben Whishaw is really good tho.The SOHN track was really good, it peaked at No. 5 for me but doesn't quite hit the emotional heights of "The Wheel" which still remains his favourite track for me. Alex Adair I remember really enjoying in BJSC - surely going to be a hit at some point in 2015? Released on 1st March 2015 apparently.. I mean if Blonde's sell-out watered down rip-off of "White Noise" can make the Top 10, then this far superior track deserves it!

the bright lands of scandanavia are pulsating. all very different forms of scandi-pop though. HIGHLIGHT of meltfest 2014 by a country mile helena paparizou does best, one of 2013’s worst songs ‘pumpin’ blood’ is forgotten about thanks to bjorn ytlling’s remix of nonono’s ‘hungry eyes’, the production and euphoria in those verses! if the chorus had matched these sweet beginnings this track would be a good 200 places higher. mythical creature luha follows, sadly forever tarnished by the great ‘listen to everything, will we take your points, who knows, oh we didn’t but nobody wants to know’ moment. just one of many song contest dramas. at the tail end is the ceo, if ever a track explained my mind from day-to-day— there it is. the odd one out is fatima al qadiri the only real world music entry for 2014, chinese influenced house. this was the most down to the wire the moment provided. bloody good.

yet more wonderfulness, god it’s good to like music. generic girlband fifth harmony come in hard with the ever-repeatable ‘sledgehammer’, much better than that boujy michelle obama song. i really loved this indiana track but as a radio rip, which speeds it up. hearing the slower version sorta killed it for me. the same thing happened with ‘about you now’ a few years back. following next is my last bjsc entry, named after the australian chart, official obviously. channeling tina turner and haerts, this deserved so much more, the last quarter is utterly stunning. here is hoping this lass can go somewhere. creeping in at 40 is the second best french-language song of 2014, indila invokes kate bush and edith piaf in this STIRRING number. fab <3

up here is some well loved bj pop pleasantries, in at 31 is bjsc failure hannah georgas who has since had to take a job at millie’s cookies following her resounding failure in song contest number something. hannah’s sister and other noted unsuccessful and dropped popstar ella flops in at 32, despite the strong showing on my chart it simply wasn’t enough for rob’s second cousin once removed and she will be back at grimsby dockyard in the new year, daring to dream big once more. neon jungle briefly looked like an exciting pop product with this release, alas this was their zenith. i still have no idea who any of them are apart from their ethnicities, how iggy azalea of me. kyla la grange is all good and well but her hair was more interesting than her full length, thankfully she saw sense and got kygo to remix 'cut' and make it into fabulous music. finally relatable pathos marina returns sans wig and silly concept, simple music speaking for itself. thank you for reading all this nonsense.

three pretty wonderful songs here. taylor really showed what she had still to come in '1989' with the career re-defining 'out of the woods'. hopefully a future single somewhere down what undoubtedly will be a long campaign. shura provided one of the year's most emotionally poignant moments in a very much poat-jessie ware world, fickle friends were treated to excellent remix treatment courtesy of paperwhite (who are definitely an electro-pop thing to watch in the new year...) evidently there has been some sort of falling out between the pair as the remix has been deleted off of the internet. ariana grande became the next new big popstar with two very mish-mashed first two singles from 'my everything', it wasn't until the third single with the weeknd that i think she truly began to play her ace. sultry, sensual and oozing poise 'love me harder' is excellent and easily her moment to date. finally at 26 dominique who has caused a lot of drama in bjsc earlier this year. having done a recent scan of her twitter she has retweeted an image of mikey's chart showing her at number seven. i feel you literally could not make it up ( https://twitter.com/dom_n_que ) scroll down to see. i think someone doesn't quite understand how buzzjack works...

well scandinavia really representing here. elliphant and mø swedes and danes come together with production from joel little to give one of the best breakdowns of the year. meanwhile rising sweds eternal death see a second entry placing at number 24 with the ethereal 'fade', final scandi-person is norge lady susanne sundfør and the enchanting 'fade away', probably one of my most listened to songs of the latter stages of 2014, perfect winter music. katy b seems to have borrowed a lot from the scandanavian musical ways for her opus magnus 'crying for no reason' and the best new rnb artist for YEARS in tinashe charts in at 21. the music is getting more and more wonderful~

once you head into the top 20 of the year i find the music takes on a different life, yes you love these songs but you love the rest of the top 100. when i think about the top 20 it goes beyond that, each and every one of these songs has many memories of a certain point in my life during 2014 and i look back with a lot of positivity and happiness (for the most).

 

yet more wonderful electronic pop from scandinavia. i can't say i was particularly arsed with the new röyksopp but they and robyn make a magical pairing, perhaps not up to the standard of 'girl and the robot' here but i played this to death at work along with zhala who really took pop to the most extreme reaches. 'prophet' is nothing short of anthemic, engaging and a total rush. amazing.
