If the impact date is June 29th, surely they won't C-list it till the release week at the earliest - and that means there will have been no radio play before release week so surely it's only going to scrape into the top 40 on fanbase buys alone. Then radios will probably be put off playing it as much as they would've done if it was a normal release strategy if they see it so low in the chart, just as the problem was with the On Air/On Sale releases we had a few years ago such as 'Notorious', 'Beat of My Drum' and that The Wanted single.

4 weeks before the release date is May 31st, so they could C-list it May 27th and B-list it June 3rd (ready for release week). Leona also has more radio promotion coming up and she's done a lot fo promotion at BBC radio stations so far (Radio 2, Radio 1, Radio 1Xtra, BBC London 94.9 and has more promotion lined up in a couple weeks).

And you've been way too negative. I mean the other day you even suggested that it would peak at #50 in release week...

That's what happens for most singles that don't have airplay unfortunately. Not saying it can't recover, however.

What an awful release strategy, I hope they have a plan and know what they're doing but we'll see....

Leona has a lot of TV promotion and will most certainly be getting some form of radio play though. I mean all her lead singles have been supported by BBC Radio 1/2 (including Trouble) so I don't see why they won't support "Fire Under My Feet" given that it's more radio-friendly than "Trouble" and she's also doing radio promotion of those stations with more lined up. Plus heart has been a big supporter of Leona and are still playing her frequently so they should play her too I would think.

Also she has more than just the palladium performance lined up. Not to mention that she can still get good airplay before it's released (BBC Radio 2/BBC Radio 1 will very likely be playing it during release week which is more than just small radio spins).

To get into the top 10 you need around 30k or so. Leona's releasing in a quiet week so I think that's pretty doable given the promotion she has coming up.

I am realistic :P , btw I cannot say where she would end charting because we do not know all the promo Leona have , at this stage a BGT would be great to rise on itunes and get playlist, basically what happened with OMS after X factor that got 1 on itunes and more radio get on board also capital

I think it's the timing of the radio play that's the issue, not whether it will get any plays at all - at the very least Radio 2 will playlist it at some point. It may get some longevity this way, but any chance of a high peak is gone - that's what I'm disappointed about. Leona needs to comeback with a top 10 single to avoid the bad press she'd get with missing the top 10 and I doubt she's going to get it.

If It's going to absolutely get airplay then the song will do decently overall (not to mention helping the album sell in the future) maybe like a 46-64-38-22-15-24-38-50 chart run. But with this strategy, unless she has a performance go viral like Little Mix's Salute last year, she's kissing goodbye to a top 10 peak, which I've got to admit I would have really liked to have seen.

Edit - just saw Ryan's post and agree)

You're not very realistic when you suggest she won't even go top 40 though. :P And we know that Leona has a decent amount of promotion so far. Also OMS didn't get to #1 on iTunes after X-factor, it rose to #1 a week or so later after increase radio play because the song was amazing. I think a lot of people are being too pessimistic about "Fire Under My Feet" and its chances at radio. I think it'll get decent radio support at the very least.

Also sorry if I'm repeating myself and drawing this out a bit, but I wanna increase the posts so the forum has a chance at #1 on the artist forum chart. :kink:

one more sleep charted like 34 (and no streaming were involved) on the first week when we did not have much radio support or big slot like x factor so basically where only fans sales...so I do not know about you but I would prefer a chart run like 5 - 10 - 18 - 40 etc. rather than 35 - 45 - 40 - 30 - 40 -50 etc. at the end of the day when people will see her peak would be 5 and not 30. With being 30 other people that are not fan of leona could address her as a big flop if with a comeback single she did not manage to score a top 10.

OMS was a Christmas song though, so didn't start getting airplay until after and was on air/on sale (with no TV performances at that point). It did go on to peak at #3 though. #34-#3-#3-#15.

I understand about peak position. I'm hoping the promotion for the song will be enough to get it into the top 10 and manage to stay around the top 10 for a few weeks and go silver (200k). I guess we'll get a better picture of how things will be in the next week or two.

I see like "we have more than 3 weeks for people realizing this is the wrong strategy and get the management to push back the itunes release to coincidence with the impact week"

FUMF is on neither the R1 or R2 playlists, so unless it's being snubbed, it looks like the messy - low peaking release is going forward :drama:

It isn't being snubbed, it'd likely get playlisted not next week but the week after if the impact date is indeed 29th June.

Also Leona was at BBC Radio 1 earlier today doing an interview with newsbeat.

I think everyone's overreacting a little. Obviously Island would rather a long running hit with big sales overall (as would I) rather than a top 3 single which drops like a bomb after a few weeks in the top 40.

Island and Leona have had months to come up with a strategy, so I'm sure they know what they're doing with this. In fact, it might be bring about a change in the way artists release songs in the UK if it goes successfully.

I certainly hope there's a good plan in place - of course we don't know everything yet. But it is a rather odd/alarming strategist at face level. Keeping fingers crossed for BGT performance.
Hopefully Capital get on board, as I have seen them get on board 5 or 6 weeks before release, so if they do they might start spinning it prior to June 7th. But I'll be honest, I don't have much hope that they will playlist it.
So it's a good strategy to premier a song 3 weeks before it gets playlisted? I don't think so . wouldn't it have made more sense to premier the song a couple weeks from now rather than 2 days ago?

Music video is available to buy on UK iTunes and #8 in the Music video chart at the moment! Top 5 on the music video chart gives the song some exposure on the main page of iTunes so just bought mine.

Isn't that how standard UK releases work? Most songs premier 6-7 weeks before their release dates, yet radio wait until 4 weeks before release to playlist them. So that would be a 3 week gap between premier and playlist.
