December 30, 201410 yr Thanks loads both. I think I was interested in a #1 with a full chart run and Wowee 'wake me up,' bombed with that one. I wonder which non charity single #1 with a full chart run will be the lowest #1 :funky:

From one Bray fave to another, Lorde is at #179. Team sadly didn't do as well as predecessor Royals (despite being better). Royals is still to come in this countdown, oops. Poor Lorde. From one poorly performing post album single to another, Miley Cyrus somehow peaked higher than Team with the incredibly boring Adore You. The first two Bangerz singles were very good imo but this is completely uninteresting and just dull on the whole. Things pick up with Hella Enderson at #177, quite floppy still so don't expect her to keep her record contract next year. The Yours single pack couldn't even save it, peaking only at #16 and obviously ending her career. Poor girl. Finally, Kasabian are at #176 with eez-eh, a track that hung around for an annoyingly long time. I can't pretend that Kasabian ever appeal to me (you know, they totally slot in well with One Direction, Justin Bieber, etc :kink:) but this was worse cause it got stuck in my head. All the time. Boo. WD Kasabian anyway.

Kelly with Christina Aguilera. The R. Kelly version remains perhaps her best song. He has another song to come thanks to Waze & Odyssey treating him with more RESPECT. Zedd and Foxes also had a second wind of chart success in 2014 with 'Clarity' - after the release of 'Stay The Night', Zedd apparently decided he had no other good songs so he just re-released 'Clarity' (which was a much better song to be fair). It didn't catch on a great deal more than on its 2013 release, managing to improve its peak by two places and secure another handful of top 40 weeks but remaining a surprisingly low peaker (with a lower peak than even a fake version of 'Stay The Night' by DJ Stay The Night). Completing the section we have 3 more one-week top 10 hits of varying quality - Parra For Cuva and Anna Naklab's uninspiring house cover of Chris Isaak's 'Wicked Game', Lily Allen's 'Air Balloon' which was a decent enough song but just a tad tacky (kind of sums up the entire era to be honest, rather disappointed in general and I hope for better if she releases a 4th album) and by far the highlight of the set, Wretch 32's '6 Words', a fantastically produced tribute to his significant other which saw him eschewing his usual rapping to attempt singing - he's no fantastic singer as he alludes to in his own lyrics but it's the sentiment that counts here and it most certainly does count. The song rightfully saved him from his apparent rapid downturn into obscurity with previous single 'Doing OK'.

Miley Cyrus was a big benefiter of the gift card effect, re-entering the top 40 after an initially slightly underwhelming run for Wrecking Ball. Having an underwhelming run all round was Calvin Harris and Alesso's track Under Control, an example of how a dance track can be boring. Nothing exciting in the production and a dull vocal. Oops. Elsewhere in this section, 5 Seconds of Summer's floptastic fourth single Good Girls manages to make it into the top 170 surprisingly, no doubt helped by it being the instant grat earlier in the year as its actual single run was terrible, for a reason unbeknown to me the track never caught on. Shame as it's their second best single IMO. An Ed Sheeran album track is at #168, Photograph has had an incredible top 100 run with 18 weeks there to date, despite never making the top 40. Its recent re-entry and new peak has come after Ed's performance of it on the X Factor final. A very impressive run for a lovely little track, no doubt boosted by streaming! Finally, Paolo Nutini's comeback single rounds the section off. Scream (Funk My Life Up) contends for worst title of the year but had quite a decent chart run in the end, with 5 weeks in the top 40 despite a huge 12-28 fall first.

This new version was a bit less crappy than the Christina version of 'Do What U Want' but still the (incredible) original any day for me please. One Direction actually bothered with a 4th single for the first time in the 'Midnight Memories' era, 'You & I' was the least awful of the singles (though still pretty bad) and charted a lot higher than 'Midnight Memories' the single, though it still failed to make the top 20. Okay it technically didn't but let's not go into that. At #163 is the only UK hit single Simone Battle of G.R.L lived to see (R.I.P.), featuring on Pitbull's 'Wild Wild Love'. Which was a bit crap really. But it did fairly well (a lot worse than 'Timber' but a LOT better than its own follow-up 'Fireball'). Here we also have Foxes' only top 10 hit and inspiration for the former username of the poster now known as Nelly. S, a nice catchy pop song if not quite as glorious (pun intended) as 'Youth'. Finally we reach the lowest of the 35 #1s in the top 200, Take That's recent #1 'These Days' which is presently still in the top 10. The band's first release as a trio following the departures of Robbie Williams and Jason Orange overcame a seeming lack of hype and radio support to do what the certain #1 'The Flood' never managed (that is, actually reach #1, their 12th #1 in all). It's a pretty okay song although I wouldn't call it a TT CLASSIC. Maybe in time it'll grow more.

December 31, 201410 yr I'll still never quite grasp how The Flood only opened with around 60k in 2010, it probably had ten times the hype of These Days, at least.
December 31, 201410 yr eez-eh :dancing: even joseph can't deny dat catchiness (DID IT MAKE YOU MAD? *.*) +1 Excellent to see it in here, although I guess those extra slaying weeks in the #20-30 area helped matters loads. Sadly, it did considerably worse than Rather Be, but I find it to be a lot better actually. It had quite a swift exit from the chart and was behind Rather Be before long. I'm sure Sharna earned enough money to head to the chemist and buy some Calpol anyway. MY MIND'S TELLING ME NOOOOOOOOOOO....BUT MY BODY, MY BODY'S TELLING ME YESSSSSSSS at #159. Waze & Odyssey's bootleg reworking of the R. Kelly hit Bump & Grind was a top 3 hit earlier this year but also had quite a swift exit from the chart. Thankfully. That opening aside, it's incredibly dull. Also having a relatively short chart run is FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSE, just three points ahead, with Angel, King of #9. All of Angel's top 40 hits have peaked at #9, fun fact. Fuse enjoyed greater success with previous track Dangerous Love, which is still to come, as is #5 hit Million Pound Girl (Barder Than Bard). Finally, double Little Mix to close off this section as Little Me, the more recent track of the two, beats out previous single Move by a grand total of one point. Oops. Little Me actually did better than I thought, I don't remember it getting as high as #14, so not a bad result for them at all and of course, follow-up single (Word Up! is best left forgotten) Salute did better and is still to appear.

Credit where credit is due, it DID give her that much talked about record for most #1s by a British female solo artist. Not so talked about is how terribly the song did after reaching #1. Maybe if she cared more about the quality of the song it would have held up a bit better. It lands behind Ellie Goulding's 'Goodness Gracious' which was a minor top 20 hit at the start of the year as well as the most British title for a pop song that I can think of. Ellie's only brand new single of 2014 was 'Beating Heart' from the 'Divergent' soundtrack which made the top 10 but disappeared even quicker than the blink-and-you'll-miss-it top 10 hits we've encountered so far, actually falling short of the top 200 here entirely. Her other new top 10 hit of the year, 'Outside' with Calvin Harris, is still to come however. David Guetta's 4th and (by far) best single from current album 'Listen' lands at #153, 'Dangerous' re-used the featured artist Sam Martin from previous single 'Lovers On The Sun' but thankfully was not a clone, instead being one of Guetta's most innovative songs in God knows how long. Unfortunately it hasn't proven as big a hit as 'Lovers On The Sun' so far. Two 2013 hits complete the section, Storm Queen's former #1 'Look Right Through' (http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/784.gif) and Sub Focus' 'Turn Back Time' which was only a #35 hit when it had appeared to peak at the end of 2013 but shone in the new year, amazingly giving him a second top 10 hit with a peak matching Alex Clare collab 'Endorphins' (anyone even remember that song?) despite being a post-album single. I've always thought the song was a bit overrated but am all for any chart success for Sub Focus.

I'm sure he has absolutely no idea how it isn't #1. Despite only being out for 6 weeks. But we know what he's like. The fairly pleasant (imo) new version of Do They Know It's Christmas? had huge first week sales but otherwise fell a bit flat for the public beyond that, spending only three weeks in the top 10. Not helped by the lack of streams I'd imagine. Fall Out Boy's minor top 40 hit is up next, followed by a carry-over from 2013 from Drake. Hold On, We're Going Home had impressive longevity in the chart and makes the top 150 here despite not entering the top 40 once during the year. WD Drake. WD Majid Jordan. Whoever you are. The Champs are at #147 with most recent single Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart). The track was a smaller hit than the previous four but was still a top 10 for them and had the same top 40 weeks as Wild Heart (it actually lost two weeks due to streaming too!). Shawn Mendes was added for the single release and it gave him his first top 10 hit, and first top 40 hit for that matter. His official debut single Something Big is released in March, look out for it as I have a good feeling about it in the charts. Oh and the artwork for this provides some much needed colour above, don't you think? (they all look great on it too x) Finally, Clean Bandit's fairly lacklustre second Jess Glynne collaboration is at #146. It's done quite well for them so far, spending almost the same time top 10 as Extraordinary did top 40. Can they not swap chart runs? On the bright side, at least it's not a Rather Be rip-off like it could well have been.
January 1, 201510 yr Cheryl; ouch. So looks like she's the lowest non charity based single with a full run. Referring to the commentary Joseph made yesterday about Ella Hendersons 'Yours' song. Do people seriously think she's in danger of loosing her contract this year? Is that because of Simon Cowel being a bitch or are people joking when they refer to her being dropped? Edited January 1, 201510 yr by London81
January 1, 201510 yr It's a bit of a running joke cause there's a particular member who's perhaps a little too dramatic when it comes to Ella's career :kink: She's definitely not gonna get dropped after such a good campaign!

There couldn't be much more of a contrast between that and the song just ahead at #144, One Direction's most recent single 'Night Changes'. I'd love to sneak some more shade to them but I can say nothing bad about this song, a really lovely and mature ballad from them. Olly Murs is higher than One Direction as usual though with 'Wrapped Up' at #141, the lead single from fourth album 'Never Been Better'. Like his previous two lead singles it features an inessential rap verse - this time from Travie McCoy who couldn't even be bothered to show up for the video - and is a catchy radio friendly pop song. Olly does this well and this song is no exception. It did become his first lead single to miss #1 but has hardly been a flop. Finally we have a double dollop of Pharrell. The ubiquitous 'Happy' has proven to be one of the biggest hit singles of all time but the rest of the 'G I R L' era hasn't been near as fruitful, it was a #1 album but only produced one more UK top 40 single in 'Marilyn Monroe' which underwhelmingly peaked at #25 despite being a great song (and much more similar to his earlier material). Beating it by a point is 'Get Lucky' with the 2014 portion of its chart run.
