I ADORE the Sia album tracks as you know, so brilliant to see them so high here! I'm hoping there is at least one more to come from her in the top 10 :o

Very good placing for 'Boom Clap' too and Michael Jackson <3 I listened to 'Xscape' the other day and it's still a wonderful listen so i'm glad it happened after initially being quite cynical about it.

They're pretty incredible, either one would have been great choices for singles. Just a shame the album campaign hasn't been pushed any further with the release of more singles as the public needs to hear as much of it as possible!

I don't think I've listened to XSCAPE since its release although I can't say it made much of an impression on me, 'Love Never Felt So Good' aside which gave disco music a cool, fresh sound. I've not actually heard any other albums of MJ's but it goes without saying that he has a fantastic catalogue of singles!

Hi Rob! :D

'I Will Never Let You Down' was 3 points off the Top 10! I still love the song that's at #10 too though (which most here don't seem to like as much!) so I'm not too fussed.

Yep, 'One Day' is definitely my favourite from Paolo! :D I've not tired of it at all yet and the build up to the final chorus still gives me chills!

I can see the reasoning behind releasing 'I Was Gonna Cancel' (the record company obviously though Pharrell's input would make it an instant hit) and I admire the decision to record something a little different to what's expected, but I would agree that it's among Kylie's weakest singles.

I wouldn't say I was a big fan but there's some mega tunes in Anastacia's back catalogue ('Left Outside Alone' is one of THE songs from my childhood ). 'Stupid Little Things' is one of my biggest regrets for not charting for longer; for some reason I ended up tiring of it quickly, yet now it sounds as impressive as it did on first listen!

Very nice to see Chloe Howl with three entries in your top 100 60! All very solid, catchy songs. A real shame she never found success with them but hopefully there's more music to come from her this year.

That Michael Jackson/JT collaboration is excellent and a real earworm. Only lately began to appreciate it properly.

Also cool to see Imelda May in the countdown :o! I love her (more for her personality than her music but still).

Hi Josh, thanks for commenting! :D

'Dark Horse' seems to have become even bigger than 'Roar' was, despite the latter being a million seller when counting streams! I agree, Katy definitely has something more going for her with the likes of this and 'ET', I'd be really pleased if she recorded these sort of tracks more on her next album.

Chloe has been one of my favourite new acts of 2014; it really is a huge shame she's not taken off. I think you're likely right she'll be dropped considering the album has been scrapped.

The Ultraviolence album has been a bit disappointing for me, I was expecting something really spectacular from Lana. 'Shades of Cool' has been the most impressive piece of work to come from this era but the releases for all the singles have been so messy. :(

I enjoyed 'Work Bitch' too but 'Perfume' really has been the best thing Britney has released since the Circus days. Then again, I expect nothing short of a masterpiece from Sia who wrote it!

That's interesting - most seem to not like it! I did enjoy it, enough for it to initially be a favourite from the album, but in hindsight it wasn't strong enough to be a single.

Definitely. Pop is always at its best when it's straightforward. Obviously it has to be something original and inspiring but it doesn't have to be all arty-farty.

I've ended up much preferring the solo version but the JT collab was a great idea from the record company as I doubt the song would have done half as well otherwise!

Adding a bit of variety to my chart! :D I think her rockabilly sound is so cool and, from interviews I've seen, she's shown a great personality too.

Thanks for your comments!

10 // Clean Bandit ft. Sharna Bass - Extraordinary // 537 pts.

Chart Run: 18-10-01-03-06-07-08-05-06-09-10-09-14-11-16-25-25-30-32-38 20 weeks

Kick-starting my Top 10 is 'Extraordinary' which served as the fifth release from Clean Bandit's debut New Eyes. This saw the band collaborate with songwriter Jimmy Napes/James Napier - also responsible for co-writing 'Rather Be' and Sam Smith's 'Stay With Me' - and 17 year old vocalist Sharna Bass. 'Extraordinary' grew on me fast after first listen; I particularly loved that rather melancholy introduction in which you could still tell was going to progress into something, well, extraordinary. The great thing about Clean Bandit is their knack of keeping a song so simplistic despite using a collection of instruments, which is demonstrated further in this song along with the sweet, gentle vocals of Sharna. It's a huge shame that the general opinion on Buzzjack is that this is a weak song. True, it may not sound as impressive as 'Rather Be', but that was pretty ground-breaking for the charts so there could hardly be a fair comparison.

09 // Kylie Minogue - Into the Blue // 540 pts.

I remember first hearing 'Into the Blue' on a gloomy January day and how my mood drastically turned around upon listening to this. Glorious, uplifting and summery; I don't think there's a song more positive - everything from the lyrics, music and vocals are so blissful. It is very Kylie by numbers but that doesn't make it any less impressive. Of course, as a Kylie fan, it was inevitable that I was going to like this, but there was just something so special about it.

A bit more about the song itself: it was written by Jacob Kasher (responsible for 'We R Who We R' by Ke$ha), Mike Del Rio (Cheryl's 'Under the Sun') and Kelly Sheehan (Rita Ora's 'How We Do') and recorded on the day of Kylie 45th birthday. The video saw her work again with director Dawn Shadforth who has been responsible for half a dozen Kylie videos: 'Spinning Around', 'Can't Get You Out of My Head', 'In Your Eyes', 'Chocolate' and '2 Hearts' being the others. Whilst the video for 'Into the Blue' may not be as iconic as the former two, it's beautifully put together and the chemistry between her and French actor Clément Sibony is lovely.

Check out this

and listen to spot any similarities in the chorus...

10 // Paloma Faith - A Perfect Contradiction

Standouts: Can't Rely On You / Only Love Can Hurt Like This / Trouble With My Baby / Impossible Heart

At #10 in my album countdown is Paloma Faith's third album A Perfect Contradiction - one I was eager to hear following the beautiful Fall to Grace. Lead single 'Can't Rely On You' took Paloma down a different musical path than what we're used to - a funky Pharrell-produced track - which lead me (and presumably many fans) that this would be the overall sound of the album. I was a little dubious about this; 'Can't Rely On You' worked well as a song but it wasn't enough like Paloma for me to want an album-full. It has since become a favourite of mine from the album, although this more to do with being let down by the majority of the music. It starts off nicely enough with 'Mouth to Mouth' and 'Take Me' however this sound is repeated throughout the album in rather formulaic way which gets quite dull. Consistency doesn't always mean cohesive. That's not to say the album doesn't have its moments: 'Trouble With My Baby' is a great swing-your-pants jazzy record and I cannot resist disco music which 'Impossible Heart' incorporates. And of course there's 'Only Love Can Hurt Like This', but more on that later... spoilers!!

09 // Calvin Harris - Motion

Standouts: Under Control (with Alesso ft. Hurts) / Blame (ft. John Newman) / Love Now (ft. All About She) / Outside (ft. Ellie Goulding) / Ecstasy (ft. Hurts) / Pray to God (HAIM)

Calvin Harris' fourth album Motion saw him collaborate with the most amount of artists he ever has done - only three tracks saw him credited as a solo. This was the main reason I decided to check out the album; seeing the likes of Gwen Stefani, HAIM and Hurts on there was enough to grab my interest. The result of the album was actually better than I was expecting. There's the poppy side to dance with the likes of 'Outside' and 'Blame', the instrumentals like 'Slow Acid' and 'Burnin'' and the Harris-vocaled 'Faith' and 'Summer' - not anything we haven't heard from Calvin before but they're all pleasant listens in their own right and do what dance music is meant to. There were also a couple of surprises in store which has helped Motion gain a Top 10 placing. 'Ecstasy' tones things down; the production is very minimal and relies on the vocals of Theo from Hurts. It's a lovely moment that works quite well two thirds through the album and is something that could be recognised as a Hurts solo song. The same can be said about 'Pray to God' which features the vocals of HAIM - not a band who would usually record something that followed a current dance sound yet it still has that HAIM tone.

APC is a nice album but I completely agree with you about it being samey which kind of stunted my love for it. In the end I just got sick of it quickly and when RFTGL came along I thought she was taking the mick. Fortunately, there are fantastic songs I still like such as Impossible Heart which is just a great upbeat tune and I can't fault her vocals at all. Also, she has certainly redeemed herself with the excellent Leave While I'm Not Looking.
Kylie flopped in my chart sadly at the lowly heights of 49 :snif: good to see someone charting it so high though. In the end for me it just didn't come anywhere close to 'All The Lovers' from recent eras :( I love the lake views in the 'Extraordinary' and I did find the track enjoyable but it never had the same spark 'Rather Be' has :teresa:

I do quite like 'Ready for the Good Life'. It is her weakest single and the lyrics are a bit naff but at least it's got something to it. I'm glad Paloma did re-release this album as I find the tracks on there make the album as a whole more appealing - as you say, 'Leave While I'm Not Looking' is a great track, even if it is essentially an 'Only Love Can Hurt Like This' part two!

That's a shame. :( Yeah, I suppose 'Into the Blue' was a rather safe option whilst 'All the Lovers' was something incredibly refreshing from Kylie.

Oh yes, the video for 'Extraordinary' has some great moments! I do agree that 'Rather Be' definitely has a spark to it and its obvious why it was such a mega-seller. A really polished and solid pop song - one that's certainly going to go down as a classic come the end of the decade!

I wasn't keen on Coldplay's shift of sound with the sombre 'Magic' and the experimental 'Midnight', so I was relived to hear the hit-in-the-making 'A Sky Full of Stars'. This was an Avicii-produced track - not a collaboration you'd have expected but boy does it work! From those opening piano notes and the dance beat, you could tell this was going to be a huge anthemic track and it doesn't disappoint. I can imagine that instrumental in the chorus taking over a whole stadium, which is exactly what all great Coldplay songs do, namely 'Viva la Vida' and 'Fix You'. Coldplay's first EMD track and, if this is the standard, I hope it's not their last.

07 // Sigma featuring Paloma Faith - Changing [Original/Goldsmyth Edition] // 561 pts.

Another artist who welcomed a dance genre now - Paloma Faith teamed up with duo Sigma for the drum-n-bass hit 'Changing'. In contrast to Coldplay and 'A Sky Full of Stars', it doesn't sound like a Paloma song, but that's not to say it doesn't work: Paloma has a great projected voice which suits this sort of anthemic dance track. The vocal part was rumored to have been offered to Ella Eyre first (who in fact co-wrote this song) but she turned it down and the job went to Paloma. I've no doubt that Ella would have done a great job but I'm glad things went the way they did as 'Changing' will have inevitably opened Paloma up to a new circle of fans. I recommend listening to the

- a sultry jazzy affair that I find shares parallels with the intro to DJ Fresh's Shy-FX reggae remix of 'Gold Dust'.
Changing  I remember it feeling like such an odd combination at first but it works really well. Essentially a Rudimental track but that's no bad thing and Paloma's vocals are excellent. I especially love the 'everything is chaaaAAangaiaiaing' near the end

Paloma sounds amazing on Changing! So glad she got that #1 in the end! Took a while but fully happy for her :)

Whoo at Let Go For Tonight nearly top 40! One of my favorite artists this year for sure

Hey Liam!

I haven't listened to 'A Perfect Contradiction' yet, but it has been on my list for a while so i will in time :P

Expected 'Into The Blue' to be higher, but glad it's made the top 10. She has effortlessly brilliant singles most of the time and this was no different. 'A Sky Full of Stars' is good too, though i really didn't get behind Coldplay this era as much as i usually do at least.

It is rather Rudimental-esque! Just a great simple but positive message and is so anthemic and crowd-pleasing. I'll have to check out some live performances of this.

It may not be in her own right but I'm happy she has a #1 to her name. Really hope she can get even more single success with the next era's singles. Would be great if she could get a powerful ballad like 'Only Love...' to #1 in this day and age.

I've only really liked 'Let Go For Tonight' from Foxes - even 'Youth' was lacking in something for me. Oh and I liked 'Clarity'.

Hi Haus!

It's worth the listen; there's certainly no bad tracks on there, just the sound gets repeated a lot which get quite tedious and most lack in the magic that was present in her previous albums.

I wish I had charted it for longer and in turn make it higher in this list - I think the reason is that I had a weird thing about songs staying too long in the bottom half of my chart, like after the point I've listened to a song regularly and my hype for it is dying down. Now I'll just chart songs until the other songs I've listened become more preferable and I'm stricter on what new entries I have (only songs I think I'll listen to more than a couple of weeks) which means new entries aren't pushing out songs from my chart that I would otherwise have kept in.

Anyway, I'm rambling! Yep, Kylie has had a fantastic line of fantastic pop records in her discography and 'Into the Blue' is one I definitely rank quite highly!

Yeah, I agree - like I said in my commentary, 'A Sky Full of Stars' is the only single that I've really been interested in. I would have thought you'd like the album though; it seems rather mellow and relaxing yet experimental.
