19. LUNGS- Florence & The Machine (8-11-16-17-19) 1,120,600 (T/S 1,636,500)

18. TEENAGE DREAM- Katy Perry (15-12-15-16-18) 1,222,100

17. IN THE LONELY HOUR- Sam Smith (NEW) 1.247,700

16. WHO YOU ARE- Jessie J (19-14-14-16) 1,259,500

The clear highlight here is Sam Smith who was the only act to sell a million copies of his album on both sides of the Atlantic, it’s another album which should see a further leap on this list in 12 months despite the fact he’s pretty much milked it dry of hits now. Everything else slides as 1D's best seller just hangs onto a top 20 position.

I'm pretty sure Lungs has sold over a million copies in the US too. :P

Really enjoying the list so far, it's very interesting to see how well some albums trickle sell!

There are 16 acts who place two albums here, 4 acts who have three albums, and just 2 who have a very impressive showing of 4 albums!

Rihanna, Olly Murs, Robbie Williams and ? Is it One Direction?

07. CRAZY LOVE- MICHAEL BUBLE (2-4-5-6-7) 1,870,300 (T/S 3,067,700)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a1/Crazy_Love_cover.png

Continuing to tumble a spot a year on this survey, “Crazy Love” may not have been Buble’s “arrival” moment (that was probably “Call Me Irresponsible”) but it certainly pinpoints the moment he became a major album shifter, selling as it has over 3 million copies in the UK. Crazy to think (excuse the pun) it only managed a sole week at the top of the charts in its entire run back in January 2010.

Sheeran has had a fantastic 2014 by any standards and this has all rubbed off on sales of the already gigantic “+” which sold more last year than any other album in this top 10 (his new album aside obviously). It was also of course a one time holder of the lowest weekly sale for a No 1 album when it sold 20k in Feb 12, a tally which has been broken 16 times since!

Marking the zenith point of her album career Rihanna has never managed to equal the “Loud” era where she scored 5 top 20 singles including the million selling “Only Girl (In The World)”. It was also released in the same week as an album still to feature and failed to debut at No 1 eventually getting their in its seventh week at the same time as “What’s My Name” was toping the singles chart.

The top 4 tomorrow when we bring this baby to a close for another year!
Imagine that most people saw Random Access Memories being a huge album just before it came out. One of the most disappointing sellers. It's rival, in many ways, AM from Arctic Monkeys has done really well.

But compared to their previous albums RAM was huge

Loud's last 'official' figure was 1.909.955 back in november 2013. Which means 14 months ago and it was selling 2.5K a month. In between there has been 2 christmas periods... But even with that lets keep it at 2.5K a month. That makes 35K + 1.910K = 1.945K

That is 20K more than that estimate

But that's based on several assumptions:

Firstly that the albums market remained the same in 2014 as 2013 when it decreased.

Secondly, that as albums get older the selling rate reduces unless the artist does something high profile during the year when in fact 2014 was a relatively quiet year by her standards with no new album, or world tour, and no real single to push (a Shakira duet aside), so it simply wouldn't have sold at a previous rate. It barely charted on the top 200 throughout 2014 when the level of sales that were required was often around 450 copies a week so I think you may be being optimistic. Hopefully when we get a new album the situation will become clearer.

04. OUR VERSION OF EVENTS- EMELI SANDE (10-3-4) 2,172,000

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61kL71bsVzL._SY300_.jpg

After being cruelly denied the best selling album of 2013 at the death that year Sandi had a much quieter 2014 with the occasional guest appearance on other acts tracks to show for her year. Have no fear as she is scheduled to be releasing her second album this year which may help this album move above back up this chart. Famously it spent 66 consecutively in the top 10, a record for a debut album including ten weeks at No 1.

03. CHRISTMAS- MICHAEL BUBLE (7-4-4-3) 2,213,900

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/8e/MichaelBuble-Christmas(2011)-Cover.png

Will this album ever go away? It seems that every Christmas it makes its presence felt, when released back in 2011 it spent three weeks at No 1, a year later and it went to No 2 and in 2013 it was back at No 7. So in 2014 it promptly disappeared in early Jan but was back inside the top 10 come December, indeed its ability to generate sales in just 2 months of the year (in any real amount) means that it still outperforms yearly most albums around in the top 10 with only Ed Sheeran selling more in 2014.

02. PROGRESS- TAKE THAT (1-2-2-2-2) 2,373,100

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6b/Progress_(Take_That_album_-_cover_art).jpg

Despite losing first Robbie and then Jason Take That continue to be able to generate the sales through “progress” was hardly a recipient of many takers during 2014 as ,for the second year on the trot, it sold the least amount of all the albums in the top 10 here. It sold 1.8 million in its first 6 weeks on sale fuelled by the first single “The Flood”, 518,000 of those sales in week one, the second highest weekly tally for an album EVER. Those sales were in part due to the return of Robbie making the band a five piece for the first time since 1995, and a June 2011 re-release tied in with their first tour together since 94 and Father’s day, result? A return to the top of course, despite those sales it isn’t their biggest seller, it’s still some 300k short of “Beautiful World”

01. 21- ADELE (1-1-1-1) 4,733,900

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1b/Adele_-_21.png

Still averaging over a thousand sales per week in 2014 Adele moved even further ahead of the field despite keeping a low profile during the year (bar a spat with Bob Geldof but we all know who came out of that one the worse). The album knocked around the top 200 for almost all the year and was the third highest seller of 2014 among the top 10 albums of the decade which is all good but the chances of her reproducing anything on this scale looks less likely with every copy sold of this album. Not that she’ll be bothered I suppose. A new album is due this year and even if it sells half of this she’ll be in the top 3 again!

Will be interesting how much a boost 21 gets when her new album is released. It's quite clear it won't receive the same sort of boost 19 got but I'm sure a return to the Top 20 is likely. Not sure how well 21 is selling now but 53k per year would see it hit 5m before the next decade.
