...and Clegg announces today in the i that he wishes they had described the "student loans" as a tax on the future rich, which it is. If you don't earn you don't get taxed, if you get good wages, you do. So those that benefit from Uni pay for it, those that don't ... don't.

Like to see labour adopt a more left-wing system than that (you know, the ones that introduced student fees, the ones that put off poor, working class people from getting into immediate debt and opting for further education...). So while all the very petty Clegg backstabbing goes on, all I see is hypocrisy from the so-called party of the working class.

Sorry.

SNP is saying in the past 150minutes 1,200 more people have joined the party. It was just over 102k a few days ago.

No, I'm sorry that he doesn't seem to understand that the headline figure of 9k a year managed to single-handedly put off thousands of poorer young people.

Ed Miliband said tonight that he doesn't see 6k fees as an end in itself. It's not until we have a proper graduate tax - not this pathetic attempt - that the stigma of fees will end.

Another Hallam poll has Labour ahead (by two points now, compared to 3 in November) with both contenders squeezing the Green and Tory votes considerably. Clegg's future is on a knife edge.

These polls don't tell the voter the names of the candidate just the party so it may have an effect!

Will yous get rid of that awful Tory seat along the English border? Or is that county just really rich and Tory??

Lord Ashcroft puts it at a dead heat currently.

It's rather rural and a bit affluent which does tend to lean a bit Tory in Scotland. That one seat was the most hated seat in the country in 2010 tho. That'll be one of the interesting ones come election night. i'm hoping we take it but to do so I think we have to take pretty much every non-tory vote.

I'd love Clegg to lose his seat, but it'd be a gigantic swing to Labour if it happens. I'm glad the sample polls suggest a move to the left rather than the right.

Danny Alexander should lose his seat, move to England and stand as a Tory at the next election which is what he's really wanted all along. I'm convinced the only reason he's in the Liberal Democrats is because they've always been so dominant in the Highlands - until he screwed it up that is.

The Lib Dems have held my seat since 1983 but Malcolm Bruce is retiring and Alec Salmond is standing for the SNP here...so that's a given I'd say.

Orkneys if I recall correctly.

Correct.

It gives me another chance to roll out the story of his response to his call-up papers in WWII. He received a letter ordering him to report to his nearest railway station. His reply was, to paraphrase, "My nearest railway station is in Norway, which is currently under German occupation. Further instructions awaited".
