Just given our entries playlist a fresh lick of paint as a few have been added/re-added to Spotify since it was last updated (these being 'Yo Quiero Bailar' (*.*), 'Waqqaberry' and 'the nature of dying'):

Still missing:

BLVCK CEILING - WVFFLIFE (CHVRN Remix) [bjsc 82]

Tearist - Headless [bjsc 91] - there's a version of this on there but not the one we sent

Zhanar Dugalova - Izin korem [bjsc 99]

Somnium - Sinking [bjsc 108]

Yoshitaka Hirota - hazy iii [bjsc 115]

ISON - ISAE [bjsc 129]

Getting there!

Also, a huge thank you to everyone who voted for WILDES in TBO XIII as she's now representing us in the final

Zhanar is in Cyrillic on Spotify. I guess they were just recently added. https://open.spotify.com/track/2PxyrZ6KFgrG...5Sd6S7vRQg6wuVQ

How about we try to go for three 18s in a row from Elëdan now? x

Oooh thanks so much for that :o I didn't think to check her artist name out in Cyrillic! Down to a measly 5 missing now :cheer:

The pressure is on :kink:

Trudge - strast'

A-5199007-1567156493-3360.jpeg.jpg

Results from Land of DW are in and we're very pleased to share them with you all! Our representative was French artist Trudge with an ambitious just-short-of-8 minutes techno mostly-instrumental 'strast'. It found many big fans and achieved a brilliant 5th place with 264 points! This is our best ever result for the first contest of the year, beating the 8th place that Sonia y Selena achieved for us way back in BJSC 81 with 'Yo Quiero Bailar'. It's the second time we've achieved 5th place following 'Birdsong' by Claptone feat. Zola Blood in BJSC 106, a fellow electronic entry and funnily enough a Land of DW contest. They need to host more often, clearly. 'strast' is our 21st top 10 hit to date out of a possible 50 qualifiers! It's our 9th top 5 hit however so the low top 10 achievements are still outweighing the top half, despite achieving 3rd more than any other position. We finished 7th in the semi with 69 points so the eventual 5th place, with only 1 point off a unique 4th, outdid projections. We've beaten all of our positions from last year already as our best finish in 2020 was 6th place for 'Let You Go' by WILDES, achieved in 122. We may start the overall YTD stats in 5th place but we are top of one list! This is the most amount of 18s as we achieved a whopping 6 of them - thank you to Skall, Thelonia, Mulgracia, Elëdan, Fljótavík + Kathaldazia who all blessed us with their top points! This is the joint most amount of golds we've ever received alongside 'All Eyes On You' by Active Child, which finished in 3rd place back in 119. What a tremendous start to 2021 - we can't wait to continue competing this year!

Danæviia scooped 1st place this time with fellow #instrumentalbloc effort 'Storm' by Worakls & Rusanda Panfili - an entry we awarded 7 points to! So we're satisfied with this outcome. A huge congratulations to Danæviia who have proven to be reliable and top quality hosts in the past, we look forward to returning next month. Our own favourite this contest was courtesy of our hosts Land of DW! Keys N Krates have a pretty good track record for us as we awarded them 12 points when they were last sent. But this one was even better. It finished 29th but was at least the highest finishing AQ. Our silver this time went to a breathtaking entry from FSR Rontvia - 'Gebirgsbachtürkis' by Thomas Lemmer & Christoph Sebastian Pabst. This finished just a couple of places higher in 27th, robbed. Then our bronze went to a delightful grower courtesy of Cumulonimbia, that was 'Kinetic Theory' by Martin Rott which placed in... 34th. Yeah, we did think the top 10 was of a good quality this time, but wow our absolute favourites weren't quite up there!

Thanks to everyone who pointed Trudge:

18 - Skall, Thelonia, Mulgracia, Elëdan, Fljótavík, Kathaldazia

13 - Terra Avium, Utopia

12 - Cumulonimbia

11 - Hushkanukia, Land of DW, Bøtanikkä, Persephonia, Republic of Adonia

9 - East Rukahavian, Aelandor

8 - Séyetana, Suedeonia, Rolloland

4 - Dobago, Aesthetica, POPHub, Aeroche

3 - D’yermak’er

2 - Trifoski

So many big points!

Thanks Addy, your support was appreciated! I wish I could’ve returned the favour but you were literally 16th in my votes, I didn’t even bother with commiserations this time because there were so many  glad you’re into my CB entry too, hyped to listen to the songs

WILDES ended up placing 30th in the TBO final with 88 points! Nothing spectacular but we were just glad to be in the final at all - plus it beat Pharao from last year.

Sophia Bel - No More

We have decided to continue down the route of the #dancebloc this month and it's only fitting for a Danæviia contest! Our hosts unmasked all of the entries tonight and that included our own Sophia Bel - a Montreal based artist. She is behind the EP 'Princess of the Dead, Vol. II', a nickname she has reclaimed from school bullies. 'No More' is taken from this very EP released back in November 2020. She explained what the song is about in an interview: "I wanted to explore the dark emotions that come when learning to assert oneself. The anger, the bittersweet nostalgia of a lost fantasy." Sophia's vocal delivery is reminiscent of Grimes with an airy, ethereal take on this subject matter. There is no messing around with the production as that promises exhilarating drum n bass drops. There is clear breakbeat influence too and a general synth sound. But it's one of our more accessible entries on paper with its pop sensibilities. Sophia looks striking in the video with her long green hair and equally standout coloured contacts. The video takes place in a dark location but she's illuminated throughout with a lot of green and blue to match her general aesthetic. I'd say this feels like a trifecta along with our previous two female-vocal D&B entries 'Virtual Paradise' (by AK and LYNX feat. Veela) and 'UTOPIA!' (by BETHY) except with a title that is decidedly less upbeat. But they all fall under the same genre and are fronted with dreamy vocals and characters with very colourful hair. Let's hope the success of this one is a little closer to 'Virtual Paradise', though! We can be found in slot #2 of semi 1 - appropriate for the Princess of the Dead to be placed in the death slot.

Hey Jade! :hi:

Thrilled to be with you in BJSC 132, even the same Semi final! I’m looking forward to giving this a listen soon and hopefully some points will follow!

Sophia Bel - No More

FINAL: 30th ● 150 points

semi 1: 17th ● 56 points

So the good news is that Sophia Bel qualified! This built our Q streak back up to 4 and was our 51st qualifier to date. However, in the final it finished in a disappointing 30th place, not quite a hit follow-up to Trudge! Never mind - thank you to everyone who did enjoy it

Swiftly moving on to the next contest:

Genoux Vener - Grand Coeur De Pierre

This time we're being represented by French female duo Genoux Vener! This could well be one of our most inspired entries to date as it currently sits at just 1589 views on YouTube. We're going pop this time but still very on brand as it's synth pop. I was drawn to this for several reasons. Firstly, the synths in question are pretty pounding and the climax is very satisfying when they meet a guitar too. Some vocal elements of the song are rather hooky (especially na na na na na na x2) but a dark undertone is running throughout. The girls provide a hypnotic vocal performance to match the slightly odd video. We hope a decent amount of people in semi 2 will enjoy it! Jadakissnia are opening the show, so no pressure. This is already our 60th entry to date :o time flies!

Genesis Owusu

The Other Black Dog

Last night it was announced that we qualified with 'The Other Black Dog' by Genesis Owusu! This is our 53rd qualifier to date and 6th in a row. Thanks so much for all of the support! Genesis is a 23-year-old star in the making who is Australian based but was born in Ghana. His critically acclaimed album 'Smiling With No Teeth' incorporates a range of styles but 'The Other Black Dog' specifically draws on more of a hip-hop/R&B focus. It's a dark song about the inner and outer demons (the 'black dogs' in question) that he faces. He is trying to outrun himself in the video and the swift pace of the verses and charging production match those visuals well. This momentum accelerates effortlessly into a winning chorus. I love his flow, lyricism and the hyperactive nature of the production. It was love at first listen and I'm so pleased that it has connected with others enough to qualify. Let's see what it can do in the final :o

'Gold Chains' was actually my gateway into Genesis, before I then found 'The Other Black Dog', so here's the contrast of a much more laidback song:

This of course ended up qualifying and finished in 17th place with 204 points! Thanks to everyone who supported it in the final - happy with a top 20  In the semi Jadakissnia actually finished in an impressive 5th place with 95 points :o

And finally... I must quote this Whoddy post from the Spotify thread as former Jadakissnia entry Adam F - 'Circles' is having a revival of sorts:

Might be of note to some people: a song sampling DnB tune 'Circles' by Adam F called 'Break It Off' by Pink Pantheress has become a thing on TikTok and is at #830 on Apple currently. Not a great use of the sample, but it's certainly something different.

Aww I'm happy you like the flag! I went through several design ideas for your flag actually where I kept the cross but in the end I thought this would work the best so I'm happy you like it! <3

Yes I was really blown away by it, great job *.* I like that you totally revamped the design but kept the colour scheme!
