Tunisian Olympic sailor Eya Guezguez has died aged 17 after a training accident in waters off the capital Tunis on Sunday.

 

Guezguez was the youngest Tunisian at last year's Tokyo Olympics and competed in the women's 49er FX category with her twin sister Sarra, who is two minutes older.

 

The Tunisian Olympic Committee (CNOT) has described her death as "a tragedy in the sports scene" while the Tunisian Minister of Sports and Youth paid tribute to Guezguez and sent his condolences to her family.

Former World Darts Championship finalist, Mike Gregory has sadly passed away at the age of 56, it has been confirmed on Tuesday morning.

 

Gregory famously faced Phil Taylor in the 1992 edition losing in one of the greatest World finals in which 'The Quiet Man of Darts' missed six match darts to claim it.

Welsh rider Mark Purslow has died following an accident during qualifying for the 2022 Isle of Man TT races.

 

A statement from Isle of Man TT Races said the accident involving the 29-year-old happened on Wednesday at Ballagarey.

 

"The TT Races will continue - but always with Mark in mind," it added.

 

Purslow, from Llanon, Ceredigion, took part in the 2017 edition of the TT Races having previously contested the supersport and lightweight events.

 

He had graduated from the Manx Grand Prix where he had won the 2015 lightweight race on his debut, and he had also competed at the Classic TT, securing a best finish of 14th in the 2019 Junior Classic TT.

Legendary Wales and British and Irish Lions captain and fly-half Phil Bennett has died at the age of 73.

 

Bennett was a key figure in Wales' golden era, helping them win two Five Nations Grand Slams in the 1970s.

 

He also starred in the Lions' historic unbeaten tour of South Africa in 1974 and produced moments of magic in his 20 appearances for the Barbarians.

 

He is regarded as one of the greatest players to wear the fabled number 10 shirt for Wales and the Lions.

 

In their statement announcing Bennett's passing, Scarlets said he was "one of the all-time legends of the game and widely regarded as the greatest player to wear the Scarlets jersey".

 

Bennett made eight Test appearances for the Lions over two tours, becoming only the second Welshman to captain the Lions on their 1977 tour of New Zealand.

RIP Harry Gration he was a mainstay on Final Score reporting and occasionally presenting, and he commentated at numerous Olympic and Commonwealth Games - primarily on judo.

George McGrath, legend of Irish racing and twice champion jockey has sadly passed. Rode 4 classic winners including Weaver's Hall in the 1973 Irish Derby. Also rode Furry Glen and Sadler's Wells to victory in the Irish 2000 Guineas. May he rest in peace.

Former Germany striker Uwe Seeler, one of the greatest players in his country's footballing history, has died aged 85.

 

Seeler scored 43 goals in 72 games for the then-West Germany and featured at four World Cups.

 

He spent his entire club career at Hamburg, from 1954 to 1972, scoring 490 goals in 580 appearances.

Former Liverpool chairman and owner David Moores has died at the age of 76.

 

Moores was chairman at Anfield between 1991 and 2007, then became honorary life president after selling his majority stake to Americans Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

 

The club said in a statement it was "deeply saddened" to learn of Moores' death.

 

"The thoughts of everyone at Liverpool FC are with David's family and friends at this difficult time," it added.

 

Moores oversaw Liverpool's entry into the inaugural Premier League in 1992, and was at the helm as the club won 10 major trophies, including the Champions League in 2005 under manager Rafael Benitez.

Former Arsenal and Northern Ireland captain and manager Terry Neill has died at the age of 80.

 

Belfast-born Neill was Arsenal's youngest captain at 20 and played more than 270 games for the club between 1957 and 1970.

 

Neill was just 34 when he returned to manage Arsenal, steering the Gunners to three consecutive FA Cup finals.

 

The defender won 59 international caps, including a spell as Northern Ireland player-manager.

Mountain biker Rab Wardell has died in his sleep aged 37 - just two days after winning the Scottish championship.

 

Wardell won the elite men's title at the Scottish MTB XC Championships in Dumfries and Galloway at the weekend.

Scotland-born ex-footballer and manager Dave Smith has died, at the age of 88.

 

The former Burnley, Brighton and Bristol City player is best known for his time in football management.

 

He took charge of five clubs, winning promotion with the first three of them, Mansfield Town, Southend United and Plymouth Argyle.

 

He was part of the coaching staff when Newcastle won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969 and also briefly managed home town club Dundee.

 

His final job came at Torquay United, which ended in 1991.

Former international umpire Asad Rauf has died aged 66 after a cardiac arrest in Pakistan.

 

He first officiated in a one-day international in 2000, and was a member of the International Cricket Council's elite panel between 2006 and 2013.

 

Rauf officiated 64 Test matches - 49 as an on-field umpire - plus 139 ODIs and 28 Twenty20 internationals.

 

"Saddened to hear about the passing of Asad Rauf," said Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja.
