February 8, 20232 yr Author Italian skier Elena Fanchini, whose career was cut short by a tumor, has died. She was 37. Fanchini won a silver medal in downhill at the 2005 world championships and also won two World Cup races in her career – both in downhill.
February 18, 20232 yr Author Christian Atsu has been found dead under the rubble of his home almost two weeks after the Turkey earthquake, his agent has confirmed. The Ghana international, 31, had spells with Premier League sides Everton, Chelsea and Newcastle. Atsu had been missing since the 6 February quake that caused the collapse of his apartment in Antakya, Hatay. "There are no words to describe our sadness," tweeted his Turkish top-flight club Hatayspor. "We will not forget you, Atsu. February 23, 20232 yr Author Football commentator John Motson has died aged 77. He covered 10 World Cups, 10 European Championships and 29 FA Cup finals for BBC Sport before retiring from the organisation in 2018. Popularly known as 'Motty', he had worked on Match of the Day since 1971. RIP Motty

March 8, 20232 yr Author Fabio Capello’s former assistant manager Italo Galbiati has died at the age of 85, it has been announced. Galbiati worked as part of Capello's backroom staff when the Italian was in charge of England between 2007 and 2012. He also worked with Capello at Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and Roma.

April 19, 20232 yr Author Former NFL star Chris Smith has died, his agent announced on Twitter. He was 31. Smith, who was a former defensive lineman for the Cleveland Browns, spent eight years in the NFL and played for multiple teams including the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Las Vegas Raiders. His cause of death was not immediately known.
May 3, 20232 yr Author American sprinter Tori Bowie, a three-time Olympic medallist and former 100m world champion, has died aged 32. Bowie won 4x100m relay gold at the Rio 2016 Olympics, plus 100m silver and 200m bronze. The following year, she won the global title over 100m at the World Championships in London, as well as relay gold.
May 12, 20232 yr Author Wales' Commonwealth Games shot put bronze medallist and Olympian Shaun Pickering has died at the age of 61.
