WINTER IS HERE.

What would our anniversary entry be without representing our namesake? Wrapping up a very successful year and an amazing century of BJSC editions, Kiwi band Written By Wolves revives the rock flavor that has been missing since The Birhday Massacre. The "Savages with male vocals" sound is more of a risk than ever with many veteran countries returning to the contest, and evading a total of 86 (!!!) other competitors seems like a stretch, but we're the comeback kids, and if there's anything that will motivate us more, it's that.

Get ready, because this place is about to blow.

Not as good of a year as 2015 but there were some sure fire standouts. It’s just that the rest of your entries just sorta... blended. Of course we have to talk about the Superhuman remix. Supposed To Be was also amazing given it was a more commercial Icon For Hire song. Not as good as Now You Know though. White Noise grew on me a bit and Porcelain/Love Is A Lonely Dancer were also cool. Everything else I can barely remember. Also, who in their right mind thought Adam Jensen would be a good entry? His stuff is too minimal.

To my defense, This Girl is only this low because it didn’t really grow on me until it started smashing worldwide. It’s actually the highest 1-pointer though, god I loved that contest. Three songs from 83 appear here, including “Wild Emotion” - y’all were crazy for not making this qualify.

Vulkyria:

A bit up and down throughout their stint since I joined (although Give My Love really grew on me and is still doing that), and then I ended up pointing their last two qualifiers before their eventual comeback in 100. Shosholoza was beautiful but lower than Game Over despite the former getting 8 points because the quality of 84 was that low. Vulker, I would like more of this in the future.

So it’s common knowledge that 2017 was a much better year for Oslol but let’s review how this went down. My god did I feel sorry for you, imaduck. Only three qualifiers and I couldn’t point any of them. </3 To be fair though the Liam summers song did end up growing on me but I never really paid any attention because, well, you know. Also BNM-era Hey Violet. :heart: :heart: However there ended up being a lot of songs that I just didn’t really get. Also wtf was that Merry Clayton song? I legit thought about your sanity.

- My - White Water (Ramrynia) ♥ This was sent to the contest I hosted and it was one of the most instantly memorable songs when I was creating the recap videos! I think the 28 second segment of the chorus used for that shows how explosive and commanding it is *.* Ryan's best entry since I joined.

- Sleigh Bells - A/B Machines (Harmonica) ♥ Love the distortion and attitude of this! So catchy and cool ~

- Die Antwoord - Banana Brain (Cadelicia) ♥ Can't go wrong with a bit of Die Antwoord! One of the best examples of a weird but wonderful group.

- Nightcall feat. Dreamhour - Dead V (Yehesi) ♥ Tim's best entry ever hands down!! It would be my 15 of this contest now (stuck behind the masterpiece that was $ORO) 'cause it's just gorgeous. The passion really flows through <3

A small trip to Popjustice the tropics gave us a song that can hopefully kickstart this new decade of BJSC into gear. Southeast-London based artist River teams up with Kitsune Hot Steam (who gave us Féria Festival from a couple months ago) to give us this soothing dance pop hybrid. You may recognize her from Tobtok’s rendition of Fast Car a couple years back. There isn’t any real narrative except it’s a really good song and I’m hoping to get that streak up to 15.
