I have a feeling that Ed Sheeran will knock Jess Glynne off #1 next week due to streaming and x although the NOW 90 effect may keep her at the top

Hurrah for Jess Glynne ~ 'Hold My Hand' is a fantastic #1

Absolutely no idea how MOR with a hat has managed to sneak up to the dizzying heights of #2?!

Edited by ETH▲N

James Bay's debut is an incredible body of work, with plenty of upbeat tracks. Really think people should give it a listen before they dismiss it/him. I just hope they move on to "Let It Go" soon, in the UK, at least - that needs to be a huge hit!
Still a huge injustice that Right Here missed the top 5 let alone #1, that is far superior to this but hey we can't be greedy, still the best YTD #1 :cheer:
Hold My Hand is amazing, a fully deserving number one.

I certainly didn't expect Hold Back The River to get as high as #2 a few months ago! Thought it would be seen as a hype single (in the same way as Y&Y 'Desire') with Let It Go being his first major smash, but it now looks like both will be major smashes.

Glad that Jess Glynne has held (:kink:) him off #1 anyway

Well, depends if you've followed the mids all week or not I guess :kink: Delighted anyway, Hold Back the River is in my top 5 of the year

Oops, I usually do but been quite busy this week! Still, wasn't expecting it to get so high, but I'm also glad :D

Well done to Jess Glynne, another great #1! Every song she's been involved with has been fantastic!

Still not feeling Jess Glynne's solo stuff.

Really couldn't agree more!

Biography

Luke Friend (born 30 April 1996) is a student from Teignmouth in Devon He was born in Leeds and grew up in the Chapel Allerton area of the city. He also used to live in Shipley, Bradford, where he attended Beckfoot School, before moving to Devon when he was 13. He then attended Coombeshead Academy. In July 2013, Friend won TeenStar 2013.

Friend's room audition, in which he sang "Stand by Me", was the first audition of the series to be broadcast. Walsh commented "You have your own style, your own finish, love your voice. You're different." Friend's arena audition saw him sing "Too Much Love Will Kill You". He performed "Alone" at bootcamp, and then "Cannonball" and "Somewhere Only We Know" at judges' houses.

In week 6, Friend was in the bottom two with Sam Callahan, but was saved after Walsh refused to vote and then Scherzinger, Barlow and Osbourne all voted to send Callahan home. In week 8, he was again in the bottom two. Walsh and Osbourne backed him, and Scherzinger and Barlow chose to send him home, resulting in deadlock. Friend was saved by the public vote and progressed through to the semi-final. In the semi-final he was in the bottom two again, this time with Rough Copy. Walsh backed Friend as his own act, whilst Barlow did the same with Rough Copy. Scherzinger chose to send Rough Copy into the final, but Osbourne could not decide and so chose to send it to deadlock again. Friend was revealed to have received more votes and was sent through to the final. In the final on 14 December, Friend performed a duet with Ellie Goulding and later finished in third place.

On 19 January 2014, Friend won 'Rising Star of 2014' in the Best of 2013 awards. He signed a deal with RCA Records and on October 15, 2014, a lyric video for a new song "Take On The World" was posted on his official YouTube page. His debut single is "Hole In My Heart" and the video appeared on his official YouTube page on February 8, 2015. It will be officially released on March 29. As of February 18 2015, his album is 90% complete. - Wikipedia

Great #1, I just hope Ed Sheeran and Rudimental prevails from reaching the top spot next week, I rather have Jess Glynne for a second week on top.
I wonder how many people just bought their 4th album ever after Sheeran/Smith/Ezra :P
Oh that's a good point! I'd love to know how many people own all four :o

Really pleased to see 'Hold Back The River' reach #2. It's doing very well outside the UK so it would've been a shame to see it chart higher in Aus, NZ, etc. 'Hold My Hand' is just an okay #1 for me, sounding similar to 'Real Love' which is good but also makes it seem pretty lazy. Great accomplishment for Jess, though, she deserves the solo success!

Luke Friend getting that chart show thread exposure *.* Really hope it does make the top 40, my song of the year so far
