The thing is with the stats is that there has been 3 or 4 other points systems over the years anyway so there's already a lack of consistency there. Of course the latest system will have a bigger effect on the stats that previous points systems but I think that's just a natural impact of a progressing and expanding contest and we'll all be used to it after a couple of months. And the songs with the most points stats are kept separate depending on the scoring system anyway, which is probably the set of stats which would have been impacted most, so that's no issue.
Does my upcoming 75th contest count as a significant enough anniversary to wheel out Delta again? Sugababes/Tone Damli for Ashton and Kylie for Kylienips too? *.*

Not to be all iron fist, but we're going to roll with this for a couple more contests before we look at discussing changes. I like the look at the 15pt system but I'm gonna put a hold on that idea for a couple of months, and any other comments on the changes, and bring it all back up when we have a proper look at the changes.

I'm going to multi-quote all the comments/suggestions into the mod forum so we can revisit this after LXXVI.

i think with consistency it can at least be as proportionate as possible, and i actually think there maybe should be many different points systems in place to allow that. that would also constitute evolution to an unpredictable contest.

nowhere in life though babe, when you up the number of entries do you see an increase in quality.

we've all managed to whittle our votes down to 12 in the past. with more people it's simply a higher stakes game and more people will lose out but that's called a competition where the best go forward and the worst go out. trying to be more encompassing risks diluting the competition quality.

disagree, sorry - eurovision is way better with more entries, more competition and more effort put into it. Buzzjack is the same judging by this one. I want to give more points out if the quality of the entries is good enough (and it was) because it's really nice to say someone "hey I liked your entry enough to give it points, well done!". If one is listening to all 42 properly, some tracks grow some tracks are instant but in a varied genre contest there ought to be something for everyone, it's not that difficult putting 15 tracks in order as opposed to 10 - I do 75 every week in my personal charts, it's a piece of cake (and it's FUN!) :cheer:

Plus, getting more points is more inspiring than just getting a few, even if the end positions are the same.

I see your point, but statistically the 18 point system and 12 point systems are practically the same when it comes to the chance you like enough songs to fill your points places.

When we use the 12 point system, the final usually contained around 28 songs. With 10 points places up for grabs, this means you had to vote for 35.7% of the songs in the final.

When we use the 18 point system, the final in this instance contained 42 songs. With 15 points places up for grabs, this equals the exact same percentage as you have to vote for 35.7% songs in the final.

So while I completely understand your point that it seems for some people that the increase in points places could result in more filler votes, statistically the 18 point system for 42 songs means we vote for exactly the same proportion of songs as we did with the 12 point system for 28 songs. Admittedly it did increase to 30 or 31 songs in the last year or so but it's very small margins.

hen we have not had 28 songs in the final since 2011. So if anything the percentage is higher now.

So basically we have 10 more songs in the final and theoretically we have to vote for HALF of them.

I don't like what will happen to the stats either (particularly not this month :() but it's something of a necessary evil if the finals are this big and it makes sense as just 10/45 doesn't feel enough, I guess I'd prefer it either if it was a top 12 with highest being 12 and going downwards from there as that might prevent the scores from going a bit mad, but it's not a burning issue.

Plus those that are worried that constant DNQs would kill their chances in the YTD, it's also easier to make that up, mainly as there's statistically a far more likely chance of you going through than not what with 20 qualifiers!

I'm not going to go full in on this but it has always seemed wrong to me that your 11th favourite song gets off no better than your least favourite, and your 10th favourite (sure to be a good song unless you really hate that much music) only gets one more than 0. I could live with it before because of the smaller final, but with the expanded final, it only makes sense to have an expanded system, and this one goes quite a good way towards helping that.

And actually, I'd think it would be rather boring in terms of results threads to stick with the old system. The reason last night was so frantic and exciting was because people were getting points a lot of the time, and that's surely a GOOD thing, not a bad thing. 40-odd songs with only 10 to be voted for would just lead to hundreds of posts complaining about droughts. I know which one I'd prefer.

Also, screw the stats. They'll be what they will be, they've never been consistent in the past and it's best they just reflect what's currently happening.

Just catching up... What a great top 3 *.*

Well done Bré, my favourite of yours for some time and a really memorable winner.

Stretchy scoreboards procured from Yu ~

The semi winners are BIZARRE - am used to the semi and final results being different but neither of them were even top 15 in the final!

Also I come 2nd in the semi again, like with Jay Dabhi - my two 2nd placers in the final both won their semi though.

Wasn't expecting 4th in the semi-final AT ALL. Overall probably my most successful contest. ^_^
5th place in the semi! :o I wasn't expecting that based on my final performance.

Wow, I really benefitted from the extra semi qualifiers, would have been a third DNQ! That's a VAST improvement in the final then.

Hot Chip oops

Semi-medalist. *.*

And I thought semi 2 might have been slightly unkind to Ojnoj and it only just scraped through. What happened there?

Very glad we had the expanded final, Rontvia would have been in the same position as me last month and 7even deserved WAY better than that (I mean, I guess it's a bit of a grower but I never thought it'd be that low).
