December 11, 20159 yr In April 1999! http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/album.../19990404/7502/ Locking out poor Britney from the top three bless ha. The only thing that sucks about that is that they prevented themselves from getting another #1 album... Was pleased when 'Forgiven Not Forgotten' took off though after such a bad start.
December 11, 20159 yr I never looked at it like before, but it is a very valid point. The slow build of success for Forgiven Not Forgotten was a welcome surprise at the time as there was so many financial risks takinig by their manager for the release. Needles to say it most certainly paid off. Do we know the sales of Forgiven Not Forgotten? I know Talk on Corners is not far off 3 million sales in the UK.
December 12, 20159 yr The Corrs were on the Late Late Show here in Ireland last night, great performances and interview. Hopefully it will buck the decline in sales for new album here, as its chart run so far is 10<26.
December 19, 20159 yr The album is performing surprisingly well. It repeated the #17 position in the UK in its third week and it's been certified silver. Three weeks in the top20 during Christmas is very respectable. In Ireland they climbed from #25 to #18. They are also close to selling out the O2 (there are only VIP tickets left), so it seems like the promo and word of mouth have had an effect on ticket sales.
December 19, 20159 yr I am happy with how the album is performing,it has done better than i thought it would. Its great to see there is still interest in the band. The new album is great and they are a band with great talent so im loving having them back.
December 26, 20159 yr My daughter bought me this album for me and im loving it. Really strong comeback from them and they have kept their original sound in parts as well. Stay is the runaway standout for me and i love the second version stay with me as well. Other standouts are Gerrys reel and unconditional. The album is far stronger than i expected.
December 29, 20159 yr Delighted we all agree the album is a strong comeback. Kiss of Life and With me Stay are just beautiful. I adore Kiss of Life. So many great songs on White Light, lots of single choices that back in the day when they did well with singles they would have had a few hits of this album. They need to promote this album throughout 2016. It is doing well at the moment, most likely out done most peoples expectations but, this album deserves strong sales.
December 30, 20159 yr A bit of point but i hope you will see why im saying it in this thread. Ireland when it comes to Eurovision try and have the Irish sound at times into the song and it doesnt work. The Corrs Stay is exactly the type of song Ireland needs at Eurovision, very Irish but has appeal to others as well. I know the Corrs would never do Eurovision but id love them to come up with a song like Stay for some one else.
December 30, 20159 yr Stay would be perfect for Eurovision *.* It's even the right length, give or take a few seconds. The album hasn't exactly lit up the charts around Europe (compared to what they were used to in the past) so it would also be a perfect 'reminder' to everyone that they exist. But they'd never do it :(
December 30, 20159 yr Oh im glad someone else agrees with me about Stay, i think it would do great at Eurovision and would get the crowd up on their feet. Yes it would serve as a good reminder to Europe that they are back but it wont happen. I might bum them a text asking them to come up with something very very very similar for Eurovision and il perform it for them!!!
January 5, 20169 yr Is there plans to release a new single. The band need more promotion on some chat shows across the UK to draw more attention to the album. A song like Stay could potentially work at Eurovision, while The Corrs themselves would most likely not participate, there is nothing preventing them writing or producing a song for another artist. As Eurovision is mentioned didn't Jim Corr have some part of the Irish team who won Eurovision in the 90's, i believe i did read he was a backing singer or guitarist for the Irish winner which i think was Emer Quinn.
January 5, 20169 yr I didn't know anything about Jim having ties to Eurovision. Their tour starts soon so hopefully they'll announce a new single in the next couple of weeks, there are a lot of potential choices imo. I Do What I Like for something commercial, White Light for a classic Corrs anthem or Stay for something more traditional, but radio friendly. The album is still hanging around well, down from 22-27 and at No.30 in the latest mids, so not plummeting yet.
January 5, 20169 yr I never dreamed it would stick around as well as it has, #11 is pretty much the peak I expected but I thought it'd be a 11-27-53-76 sort of thing.
January 5, 20169 yr Thankfully, the album has not plummeted and has a steady chart run in its opening weeks which has resulted in the album building sales. White Light will easily manage gold certification which is not a bad result. I believe most of us who like The Corrs here on this website feared the album would be a flop, we are lucky to be able to say it can be considered a success as has their comeback. Referring to my earlier Eurovision piece of trivia relating to Jim, i cant confirm this, i do remember reading it. I must look this information up again.
January 5, 20169 yr I'd be interested to know what Borrowed Heaven sold in 2004. Presumably at least 250k but I can't remember at all. White Light has sold 101k now so should've already gone gold! Edited January 5, 20169 yr by gooddelta
January 5, 20169 yr I'd be interested to know what Borrowed Heaven sold in 2004. Presumably at least 250k but I can't remember at all. White Light has sold 101k now so should've already gone gold! I think they only sold about 180,000 in the uk Borrowed Heaven - The Corrs Entered 12th June 2004 2-5-11-19-45-53-47-62-67-74-74-72-88-63-75-126-137-143-192
January 5, 20169 yr I still can't get my head around the fact that Borrowed Heaven spent only 4 weeks top 40.
January 5, 20169 yr Awful chart run, I'd forgotten how quickly it fell. I wonder if White Light can approach its sales eventually? I guess not, but could get to 150k if there are more singles released from it.
