Because Eurovision is not for dull straight man rock dirges.

A certain someone would not be happy here

It's a song contest FOR EVERY FAN, not gay only thing.

Normally I would be sad at the western European nations getting slaughtered like that but when everyone except Belgium (and vaguely the Netherlands) sends a terrible song there's not much you can expect.

I will read through the thread once the press conference and draw is finished in about an hour's time but initial thoughts are:

SO HAPPY FOR ELHAIDA!! Stunning performance!

Fantastic performance from Estonia and deservedly through.

In absolute shock about Finland, so pleased the voters voted for song quality.

Very pleased for Belgium, I thought that last spot was going to Denmark or Finland but it didn't!

Serbia was good and deserved to go through but odds dropping to 12/1? It's not going anywhere in the final surely.

Incredibly my ten favourites on the night all made it (Armenia, Netherlands, Macedonia and Georgia were all joint 9th but 2 got through so I'm calling a full top ten!)

:cheer:

Belgium is the chanson du choix on iTunes currently according to peeps on the escxtra live stream.

Romania is on the other hand, the one straight man rock song that did make it through, and is probably going to be the only one in the final bar Austria (which is even more boring). I doubt it'll do anything spectacular in the end anyway.

And I would have FAR rather Finland got through ahead of it, at least it would have been a very INTERESTING rock song for Saturday.

Because Eurovision is not for dull straight man rock dirges.

So it's only for gay diva dirges then? Seems so from the results tonight. Lordi obviously getting the big gay vote there..

Or more likely the more enthusiastic gay fans vote in the semis where everyone votes in the final?

So it's only for gay diva dirges then?

Not at all. But chart filler crap like Romania can bugger off.

A HUGE WTF @ Armenia and Hungary getting through :@

I was expecting another fail for my country (Macedonia) even though they fuc*ed up the song it was still better than most of the sh!t I've seen tonight!

The stand out for me was Serbia so im delighted they went through. Im a bit disappointed Armenia went through as i thought it was terrible, Georgia and Romania going through was a surprise as i thought they were crap, id have preferred Denmark and Belarus to have gone through, i was sure that last place was going to go to Denmark and not Belgium.

My own top 5 on from the semi which overall i thought was weak was:

01 Serbia (Clear winner)

02 Greece

03 Estonia

04 Belarus

05 Russia.

On a seperate point, Armenia performed second and went though so im hoping Ireland performing second in the next semi will go through. I know in the final a country performing second never won and not that i think Ireland will win i just hope we qualify as i think it a great song.

The halves the countries drew for the final:

Albania - 2nd half

Armenia - 1st half

Russia - 2nd half

Romania - 2nd half

Hungary - 2nd half

Greece - 2nd half

Estonia - 1st half

Georgia - 2nd half

Serbia - 1st half

Belgium - 1st half

All the ballads picking the second half (0 )

:D Finland and Denmark  Scandanavia must be crying.

Although Sweden are a front runner I kinda hope they don't win this year. Props to Estonia, Serbia, and Belgium (Although I think he got through on popularity - on Tumblr he's big for being a Lorde / indie alternative male)

Maybe the UK has a *slight* chance of making a dent in the Top 15 purely because it's not boring :D

So HERE I AMMMMM (properly this time)

First, exclusively from my home-made scorecard, here are my scores for tonight's performances (I always save my special 10s for the final):

01.5 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Finland.png Finland // Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät - Aina Mun Pitää

Seeing as Trijntje and Nina both had the same score anyway, my favourite 10 qualified! Incredible results, so so pleased. I've read through the whole topic, I feel the comparisons between Elina & Stig and The Common Linnets staging-wise are very lazy. The Common Linnets were stood in the same place staring straight at each other while the camera walked round them for the whole song. Elina & Stig didn't look directly at each other, matching the theme of the song, and the staging was much more elaborate with the shadow effect and the incredible camera shots that switched focus from Stig to Elina when she was standing behind him on stage. It's completely the opposite of The Common Linnets.

I felt the magic of Boggie's live performance again tonight, it reminded me of the initial wow moment I had when I saw the A Dal performance and she deserved her perhaps surprise qualification. I'm surprised at the comments on Elhaida's vocals, she sounded the same as she always does for me and she totally pulled out the vocal she needed. Maybe it's her vocal tone that can give the impression that she's completely out of key but she sounded fine to me and so pleased she hit the big note. I do feel Nina is being massively overrated on here, there's something missing for me and the lyrics are very poor and repetitive. The staging was impressive but not impressive enough for me to counteract the fact she stays on the spot.

As I said before I'm shocked at Finland's failure to qualify, I was convinced it would get plenty of support from televoters and jury. I'm interested to find out whether it completely disconnected with everyone and finished last or could have been a victim of an unlucky jury/televote combination causing it to miss out. I still thought Denmark would qualify but I'm very glad it didn't, I thought it (or more likely Finland) was going to knock out Belgium at the end there!

The only bad thing about tonight was the draw with Estonia and Belgium getting first half draws, ruining the former's outside chance of a victory. However, very glad Elhaida got a second half draw and Polina's draw definitely puts her the best placed for victory out of tonight's qualifiers!

01. Moldova // Eduard Romanyuta - I Want Your Love

02. Armenia // Genealogy - Face The Shadow

03. Belgium // Loïc Nottet - Rhythm Inside

04. The Netherlands // Trijntje Oosterhuis - Walk Along

05. Finland // Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät - Aina Mun Pitää

06. Greece // Maria Elena Kyriakou - One Last Breath

07. Estonia // Elina Born & Stig Rästa - Goodbye To Yesterday

08. Macedonia // Daniel Kajmakoski - Autumn Leaves

09. Serbia // Bojana Stamenov - Beauty Never Lies

10. Hungary // Boggie - Wars For Nothing

11. Belarus // Uzari & Maimuna - Time

12. Russia // Polina Gagarina - A Million Voices

13. Denmark // Anti Social Media - The Way You Are

14. Albania // Elhaida Dani - I'm Alive

15. Romania // Voltaj - De La Capăt/All Over Again

16. Georgia // Nina Sublatti - Warrior

6/10 I guess is ok in a semi where everything could've happened.

Gutted for Macedonia/Belarus :(

Yay @ Denmark and Finland dnq

Just been rewatching a few of my favourites, I saw Elina's watery eyes in her performance but I didn't notice there was an actual tear at the end. Stunning emotion from Elina! Also Russia really is screaming winner at me, with their second half draw top 3 is certain. The bassline in Belgium's performance through headphones is incredible, these 3 performances along with Albania really were outstanding with Greece and Hungary not far behind.

Also in the winner's press conference Polina was amazing. She answered a question on LGBT rights by saying all people should be treated the same, and then she got all emotional when everyone in the press conference started chanting Polina. Russia are very lucky to have such a fantastic ambassador! She also spoke English in the conference and was pretty good, she should have more confidence in her skills!

Oh and according to esctracker.com, Russia, Belgium and Estonia are all doing the best on iTunes with the rest barely doing anything. A clear top 3 of this semi perhaps?
