June 24, 201510 yr Where is that big fall you are speaking off tho? It's been very stable in the top 20
June 24, 201510 yr Finally they've got rid of Catfish and The Bottlemen after weeks of repeatedly killing the song. Presume the same will happen with James Bay's new song etc etc
June 24, 201510 yr It only takes around 1,500 sales/day to make the UK Top 20 on iTunes, hardly signs of 'demand' just a predictably quick rise and equally fast fall that is dictated by obsessive fan base purchases. I remain to be convinced of Selena becoming a big chart star outside of the US in spite of all the money that Disney have put behind her. Regardless of how many sales it takes, it's still higher than several OA/OS tracks get, so I would argue there IS some demand. It's actually stable right now and is showing no signs of having an "equally fast fall". Ignoring all of this though, the track is incredibly Radio 1 friendly, so whether she's a big chart star in the UK or not, it sounds like something they should have no issues playing, and I imagine they won't have any issues playlisting it in a couple of weeks or something.
June 24, 201510 yr Besides, the new song is top 20 on iTunes right now showing that there IS demand for Selena and Radio 1 should really be realising this, but they aren't so it's why we're failing to adapt to OA/OS in the UK. This isn't just you, lots of people have said similar things, but I don't think that's the reason. In the US almost everything is released straight away, and radio nearly always only starts playing the songs months later. The biggest hit of last year, Happy by Pharrell, was put on iTunes in summer 2013, but most radio stations didn't start playing it until 4-6 months later. Another example in the US is Latch by Disclosure, which was released in 2012, but radio stations didn't play it until 2014 and that still became a hit. It might hurt pop stars though, because there's the expectation that their songs are supposed to become hits immediately, and if they don't all their fans start panicking. But for other artists who don't have those expectations (i.e. any rock, dance, hip hop, country, R&B, alternative, etc. artist), it's not as much of an issue. Once again, I'm shocked that Radio 1 still see Snoop Dogg as a relevant artist. I'm shocked that you don't think he's relevant. (I do think Madonna, Mariah Carey, etc. are relevant too, I think it's because they're females and their music is more pop that they don't get playlisted much anymore on Radio 1). I doubt California Roll will be a hit though. Edited June 24, 201510 yr by Eric_Blob
June 24, 201510 yr Wonderful to see the Chemical Bros added again - a classic act (1995-2015) on the playlist hopefully it'll help the single and album when it's released on the 17/7! On Selena isn't her current single with Zedd on the playlist? It's true radio 1 don't do OAOS releases not because they don't know how because they don't want to IMO
June 24, 201510 yr Btw nobody states that Stevie wonder is back on the playlist - when the last time he was on? 2005?
June 24, 201510 yr Isn't he playing Glastonbury? Fairly obvious choice IMO. My mistake - he isn't on the bill. I guess it's just like Paul McCartney the feature which has got him the play-listing. Edited June 24, 201510 yr by Doctor Blind
June 24, 201510 yr Playlisting the recent material from Amy Studt might raise the eyebrows but that's it for me. Edited June 24, 201510 yr by Griff

I'm not sure they playlist an older classic artist just because they were on glasto, maybe for the one big weekend. Think Ao What the Fuss was the last song/solo material radio 1 playlisted for Stevie wonder! Edited June 25, 201510 yr by steve201
June 24, 201510 yr Freak Of The Week up to the A List :cheer: Glad to see everybody else is delighted with this too!
June 25, 201510 yr Hmmm, no Fuse and no Elliphant. I'm surprised they're snubbing both of those, unless their impact dates are still too far away? I also thought they'd add the Weeknd single seen is they made it TOTD and it's doing well on iTunes. Not impressed with this week's additions, apart from John Newman.
June 25, 201510 yr I thought the Weeknd was playlisted lol, they're bound too tho it's becoming a bit without much airplay!
