There's one of Show Me Love and another of Ain't Nobody doing the rounds at the moment. Who NEEDS to hear let alone WANTS to hear renditions of these songs again? Is it pointing to a cycle that is heading towards utter laziness?

 

I'm aware this might seem like an attention-seeking way of generating this discussion, but it is getting on my wick when I come across them along with about 76 other things right now.

The UK public is in desperate need of the tropical house versions of these! I'm sure there'll be more rehashes in a couple years time in the style of whatever genre is in vogue.

 

for the record I really like the Sam Feldt record but not the new version of Ain't Nobody!

yes, and even more recently (late 2013) Jasmine Thompson did a cover which was a minor chart hit. And funny enough the next 'Ain't Nobody' cover to hit it big is a remix of said song (although Felix Jaehn is credited as the lead artist).

 

I can't really complain though as I'm really loving the new Show Me Love/Ain't Nobody covers anyway

I really am sick of hearing versions of these songs and the Sam Feldt version is SO boring.

 

Delilah sampled 'Ain't Nobody' and in a glorious way. :wub: I do not want another straight cover of either song though, change the record.

I've lost count of how many Loves have been Shown :drama: none have clone close to the original though. It's ok to remix or sample a song but for so many artists to do the same song just kills it :/

I for one LOVE THIS craze. There's nothing wrong with being a bit uninspired if it brings the goods, which both of those mentioned in the OP do.

'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' applies quite well here. No matter how many times they are covered, those songs are still wildly popular and a rehash of a familiar song in a current popular style = guaranteed hit.

 

I do actually like Sam Feldt's Show Me Love, at least it's not a straight out cover of it and adds a new style.

With regards to the current crop of tropical house producers, many of them started off by posting stuff on Soundcloud etc, so used covers of songs people already know well to get themselves noticed... There isn't such a 'stigma' of covering/rehashing/remaking on the continent, so it's a safe bet for record companies rather than a lack of effort or inspiration on producers part I feel~

My point is that the two songs I mentioned are two of the most synonymous within club culture. It seems incredibly uninspired to say the least.

 

For the record I do quite enjoy the execution of the Show Me Love version (perhaps contradicting my first post), certainly more than the concept.

I LOVE the Felix Jaehn version of Ain't Noody, but as a rule I'm very very bored of this trend too. But then in general I'm quite bored of so much dance in the chart - a lot of the songs I do love don't do so well. I do love a bit of tropical house but Cheerleader is one of the worst "songs" I've ever heard to be honest, for example... Ain't Nobody will be huge though, which will be nice.

I would say 'Ain't Nobody' is more associated with Urban/R&B, what with the original and LL Cool J versions...

 

It's testament to the enduring appeal of those two tracks that they're periodically updated for the next generation. I repeat this is hardly a new phenomena~

As well as more recent examples like "I Got U", "Wish You Were Mine", "Nobody To Love" & "Treasured Soul" :P We can add "Pony (Jump On It)" when it gets released as well :D

Huh, this isn't rare for sure but these two are the most overdone ones. There are loads of endearing tracks that don't already have famous covers if you really must build off someone else's work rather than creating your own. When we have had at least 4 samples or covers of a single song in the past 5 years (at a conservative estimate) it's getting a bit too much and it's made me not want to hear either again, in any form, for a very long time.

 

I'm not too familiar with the new 'Ain't Nobody' and sometimes its reinterpretations can be alright but basically every cover of Show Me Love ranges between dull to offensively awful. Which contributes to my dislike of this phenomena reaching a pinnacle.
