I really don't get this Leona campaign. Everything about it has screamed "We know there's no chance of doing well anyway" but she wasn't in that bad a position before this campaign started? 'Fire Under My Feet' could have done alright (not great considering streaming but still, at least some people cared) before they randomly pulled its release several weeks forward and now they're releasing the second single OA/OS because why not.

Considering her last campaign resulted in her getting a huge Christmas hit I really don't think they needed to throw away any chance of this album being a success. Very frustrating management.

I agree to some extent - "Fire Under My Feet" would have likely gone top 40 had they not pulled its release forward. But even then it dropped down quite quickly and didn't get much of any commercial radio support (BBC Radio 1/Capital FM/Heart). I think given that Leona will get strong BBC Radio 2 support, it's best to release "I Am" on air/on sale to help build the album up. I mean the album pre-order has re-entered the iTunes album chart today after a long while out of the top 1500. I'm just hoping their stratergy will be a fraction as successful as Florence + The Machine's who released their album under an almost identical stratergy.

I mean in terms of making general reading of this thread unbearable...

You mean like when The Saturdays, Lady Gaga or Britney release a new single?

Hmmm in regards to Leona I don't see why On air helps the album anymore than holding it back? Impact date would still be the same... 'Shine' was held back and look how much that has helped Y&Y's album...

31 John Newman Come and Get It

38 Calvin Harris & Disciples How Deep Is Your Love

I can see 5sos being a potential iTunes number 1 later. How long it holds up is another question.

John Newman may have seven UK #1s but let's not forget Calvin Harris has FOURTEEN. http://i.imgur.com/wA7WJPu.gif

g'won Calvin, the true saviour of the UK chart :cheer:

only 5 places behind Come & Get It at present despite the pre-order being hundreds of places lower yesterday *__ (it's at #35)

The new Calvin song is not a hit. It's not going anywhere in the song.. not exploding, it's a GREAT song for me but it's not made to be a huge hit.. it will be top 10 at best at the end, great album track.

Can't be doing with John Newman and his duck like voice. Mind you the Calvin song is pretty terrible and the 5SOS song so childish...

Slim pickings.

 31. Calvin Harris & Disciples - How Deep Is Your Love :cheer:

686. Maverick Sabre - Walk Into the Sun (Radio Edit)

Well you haven't even been here since two of those last released a single anyway?

I actually really like that John Newman song now!

I feel like I've missed some sort of announcement as to why everyone suddenly is releasing everything On Air/On Sale?

We have Leona Lewis releasing 'I Am' today despite only premiering today and was surely going to be in or around the top 40 with a held-back release, we have Carly Rae Jepsen releasing 'Run Away With Me' today which was surely a future top 20 contender if given a normal release. Then we even have Robin Schulz released 'Headlights' today despite being up for pre-order, that was surely a future #1 contender until now?

Then we have Calvin releasing his new single On Air/On Sale today, something I don't think he's done too many times before - only 'Blame' from recent memory. And then we are apparently also expecting an On Air/On Sale release from 5 Seconds of Summer later today.

What on earth is happening? Anyway an update of all these:

12. John Newman - Come and Get It

16. Calvin Harris & Disciples - How Deep Is Your Love

268. Leona Lewis - I Am

325. Robin Schulz - Headlights (feat. Ilsey)

Weren't Leona fans forever blaming Sony for her struggling with her last couple of records, telling anyone who will listen that if she was with another label things would be different. Well here she is with another label and continuing the downward spiral.

No one is really interested in her any more and this song is OA/OS because it gives a nice little excuse as to why it wont be a hit or sell. Hold it back for 5 weeks and it still limp in at #58 looks terrible, at least OA/OS it will pass by totally unnoticed.

I'm not quite sure it'll "pass by unnoticed", do you remember when the press had a field day when one of her singles missed the top 200 a few years ago?

I agree though, she's totally doomed now whatever happens. The best she can hope for at this point is a top 100 scrape even with a held back release.

also the new Lethal Bizzle song (#22) is OA/OS!

any reason why A$AP Rocky has suddenly shot up to #29 with 'Everyday'? His R1 airplay peaked weeks ago

There was also a lot of media when 'Fire Under My Feet' missed the top 40, a few weeks back, when it would have almost certainly have managed top 40 with a held back release - even if it wasn't destined to be a hit. It's like her record label said 'I know, let's have her miss the top 100 this time, that'll help the album!'

- In regards to Carly, it's just as bizarre, as her last single was ultimate proof that holding back a single still works best here!

I did read the forum before I joined  Plus, I've been told what the release weeks for those artists was like! Only meant as a joke anyway.

I too like the John Newman song, even if isn't at Love Me Again standard

Like the Kokiri and Maverick Sabre songs as well, very summery sounding. Surprised Maverick Sabre didn't get any support with this, as its probably his most 'accessible' single yet. He's more of an album artist anyway tbf.
