I am not blindly defending Boris but I wasn't there and no-one here was either. It shouldn't be a resigning matter anyway. How many others broke the rules last December? I know some that did and bet you do too. Let's arrest them all or better still let's forget last year and get on with our lives now.

You sound like Nadine Dorries saying the police can’t look into crimes over a year old!

Eh, it's partly them believing their own bullshit.

It's also a case of the British media industrial complex turning on their own creation twice in the space of two months. All the horrific stuff this government have actually done, all but banning the right to protest, loudly roaring about Sending Them Back, failing to organise new supply lines, negligence with lockdowns leading to poor COVID outcomes, doesn't really factor into their declining popularity, aside from the one cut-through thing with the last one of those, the extent to which people personally feel betrayed by the government laughing at them.

But that wouldn't be happening if the Sun, the Telegraph, the Mail et al hadn't broke ranks on this, because to not do so would invite ridicule as the other papers would, and it's a nice way for them to attack the Tories as if Johnson goes, they can go back to business as usual with whatever ghoul replaces him and continues doing all the same shit, but the man who laughed at you peasants with One Rule For Us, Another For Them is gone so it's Alright Now.

In some ways, whoever replaces Johnson will be worse. Liz Truss of Britannia Unchained fame and dogwhistling on LGBT rights or Sunak who is angry with Johnson's public spending and is planning to reduce the tax burden for the rich at NI increases for the workers. My hope is that Johnson stays in long enough to cause lasting damage to the Tory brand. Whether the media will let him or not is another thing.
God I despise IT. And people RUSHED out to vote for THAT authoritarian sack of shit and authoritarian Mad May over Corbyn!!! :drama: Insane!!

Wakey wakey Michael. We've had an election since then and Boris won a good majority of 80 seats. Did you miss that? :D

Or Priti ‘bring the death penalty back’ Patel!

Do you really think there will be lasting damage…they are political chameleons always changing their spots and getting back in eventually!

I see The Scum and Express were the only papers not to lead on the scandal, not surprising considering the editor of the sun once worked for the government!

For the time being, we still live in a democracy. That means we can continue to criticise the lazy, lying, incompetent, bungling blob of flesh in Downing Street.

I deliberately don't mention her as I just cannot see the British public going that low to vote for that sadist. Plus even if she was in any way decent, really doubt that a BAME woman would get power in the UK.

She would literally be Hitlerian if she had any more power.

Let’s face it. Johnson’s days look numbered given there is now going to be an investigation into his refurbishment and the scandal associated with the party during lockdown last year. Whoever potentially replaces him is unlikely to be much better as most of the other contenders are hard faced soulless people who are purely out for themselves. Even though I am not a Tory, I always thought Jeremy Hunt was a far stronger candidate during the last Tory leadership contest and suspect he would have handled the pandemic far better given his background in health.

Hunt is the one as a shorter term candidate to be most afraid about. Partly because he is a good politician. Guess the problem he has is he voted Remain and a lot of current Tory MPs were voted for on Brexit. Truss and Sunak are very closely associated with Johnson let's not forget, depends whether people want a clean slate or not.

I can't see Johnson leading in to another election but equally I can't see him leaving anytime soon. People have got to remember that Johnson is very popular with the electorate, as a marmite character. There's zero way under another leader the Tories are getting a majority of 80 again, but the polls are so bad for them right now so who knows.

Don't over-estimate Johnson's popularity. His current approval ratings are pretty dismal.

The problem many of the current Cabinet have is their very close association with Johnson. They have all been forced to defend him which gives the opposition plenty of ammunition.

The tories majority will be significantly reduced at the next election. It wouldn’t surprise me if we are back in hung Parliament territory. The reason they got such a big majority was due to support for Brexit and not so much Johnson’s popularity with the electorate. By the next election, people will realise they he is a liar, idiot and someone who cannot be trusted to deliver. In addition, people will be worse off due to the continuing impact of Brexit, tax rises which the Tories claimed they would never do and that’s not to mention the various scandals which will rock the government.

And Corbyn was still THE. ONLY. GOOD. CANDIDATE. IN THE. ENTIRE. COUNTRYM BAR. THE. SNP!!!!!!

Downing Street's press chief addressed No 10 staff and gave out awards at a party last Christmas that is now under investigation, it is understood.

Oh dear.

Also, the timing of Boris' new baby couldn't be better as I'm sure he doesn't want to be in the limelight at all currently.

Best part about this story is he has been telling us all week there was no party :D  I think part of the problem is Johnson and his team are still using Trumpism as a strategy, when I think the world has moved on from that now and got tired of it. Clearly an effective strategy at times, but people are beginning to see past it as America did last year.

6 points behind in one poll now.

Sadly, the Republicans are strongly predicted to win next year's midterms and Trump the next US General elections no doubt helped by cheating, voter supression laws and yes the current President failing to impress.

One of the problems that Johnson has is that he HASN'T gone full on Trumpian and he has pissed off the right with his covid regulations (the one he brought in yesterday went down dreadfully with several of his MPs), being seen to be pro green and higher public spending - (both of those can be refuted but the perception is what is matters). So he is now hated both by the left and most centrists and now the hard right. Not much room for him to wriggle.
