Report is out - of course it is damning without the missing evidence that the Met has been asked to investigate (yeah right) but you just know that lthe Tories will say lessons will be learnt, maybe the odd minion will be sacked and the public will be told by the poewrs that be to 'MOVE ON'. Starmer not going to launch a killer blow and that will be that. Maybe the Tories will lose 5 percentage points or so in the poll for a while though and then on top of other failings could damage Johson's favourability significantly. Although probably not enough to make people actually turn out to vote for Starmer in meaningful numbers I fear on General Election day.

Not read the report or any of the news, but it just confirms what the public already knew. Starmer was never going to be the one to deliver the killer blow, that's going to come entirely from the Backbenchers. They key now will be how his allies move and whether they move against him to trigger a leadership contest. Let's not forget, this isn't the full report either which I suspect will be the blow.

The worry is that the Met will take months and months to investigate (and who knows how much leaning will be on them to take this amount of time) and so any move by the backbenchers will be seen as premature. Only about 10 or so have made themselves public so far and don't think that there are many more with integrity to add them names unless something major happens Tom Tugendhat said he would stand as a stalking horse but there probably aren't enough moderate Tories who would go for that.

The bar has been raised - it is very clear that Johnson has broken the law many times and lied but that is not enough to get rid of him.

Ian Blackford kicked out of the Commons for repeating that Johnson misled the house.

good on him, goddamn I'm tempted to stay up to see what happens here

I don't know why this "stalking horse" myth still persists. The system whereby one MP could challenge the Tory leader with other candidates joining in later if the leader failed to win an outright victory in the first round was abolished under William Hague, but otherwise intelligent journalists still insist on using the term.

As suspected this doesn’t really actually say anything. It’s faintly damning but the Met has seen to it that it’s neutered. The Met needs disbanded immediately as it’s corrupt and no longer fit for purpose

Outrageous you can be removed for telling the truth

I wonder whether Johnson will face a leadership contest now. The report while edited is very damaging but despite all this, Johnston still hasn’t taken any responsibility and is trying to worm his way out of it. If this happened in any other profession like nursing, social work or even the police, there would be serious repercussions including facing a disciplinary panel so it’s unbelievable he is trying to cling on to being PM.
I think unlikely - as they need a credible challenger. Truss seems to have disappeared so mcuh up Johnson's ass (sorry for the horrible image) so probably not her. Sunak ios being less enthusiastic but it's hard to believe him being completely ignorant of the parties.

He's just going to deny everything and cling on. Sounds like a load of his MPs have been whipped in to line, so probably no chance of a Leadership contest. They have gone full Trump now. They've obviously seen something we haven't. Honestly cannot wait to get him and his horrendous cabinet out of office. I still think the energy crisis is going to be the thing that tips people over the edge, but that's not going to hit full force for a lot of people until late 2022 for the middle earners imo.

And even funnier, Liz Truss has covid after being sat in a packed commons all day.

Oh yeah he’s going no where. The latest bit of operation red meat is a bonfire of „pesky Brussels rules“ that they’ve never been able to actually draw up a list of. So gonna be interesting for sure to see what they cull and if anyone *cough*BBC*cough* will actually fact check to see if it was a) always possible for us to make this change (see the alcohol rates restructure) and/or b) if the change will actually leave us worse off in terms of rights

What a society we live in where police involvement actually saves the person they're investigating. I have no doubt it will drag on forever and quietly find him not culpable of any crimes, a few backbenchers will be lambs to the slaughter and then the media would've moved on.

Absolute proof of how little they care about any of us, will this make voters finally see them for what they are? Who the hell knows...:/

To be honest, it’s probably better Johnson stays as much as I despise him. I think the longer he remains, the more damage will be done and I don’t believe for a minute things will change in his party when you have a complete moron in charge.

If we can get a split to develop in the Conservative Party then that would be a great result, it's fairly unlikely, more likely is that the party becomes very badly damaged by this - also good. I don't see him going, he will refuse to resign - the only way he is going is being kicked out by the Tories and they won't want to do that quite yet. Let him take the flak for the 10.4% increase in National Insurance that is happening from April and the absolutely huge increases in energy prices (likely food, inflation and council tax too).

Hearing that MPs were pretty shocked by how brazen, cocky and bombastic the PM was when he was supposed to be apologising - not a good look. Think the public will be pretty appalled & angered by his performance.

So much for the Tory syncophants like the one representing Stourbridge for saying this is a "Non Issue" with consituents....

NEW PARTYGATE SNAP POLL🚨

🎉65% do not accept PM's apology today

🎉69% want him to resign

🎉68% don't trust him and govt. to deliver

🎉80% want PM to publish full, unredacted report

Now certain Tory MPs, journalists and commentators are doubling down on the smear Johnson tried yesterday against Starmer implying that he was responsible in a previous role as DPP he had failed to prosecute Jimmy Savile (which is debunked and completely irrelevant to the Partygate scandal). Many Tory MPs though that it was a disgustingly low blow and many of Saville's victims are disgusted with it being politicised - let's not forget that Johnson is a man who said looking at previous allegations of child abuse is "spaffing money against a wall", Saville was a Tory supporter and friend of Thatcher. But these scum will continue to spread this trope as they are getting rattled. Politics has never been so much in the gutter as now.
