they heard a demo and liked it.

 

Trash inheritely isn't a good song, but Little Mix made it work, if you listen to the original demo, it's awful and has no appeal.

 

Mabel, Becky, and yes, to an extent Raye, aren't cemented personalities, as talented as they are their music comes across faceless, they haven't established a lot. Becky can SING but everything else is quite boring, Raye can write really well and sing decent too, but she's not a performer or a "personality", Mabel is still quite.. average in all areas.

 

Jade (and the other girls) have cemented all aspects, so yes, they are in completely different leagues, but then again, their backgrounds are different, but Little Mix using a Mabel demo (and making it 10x better) isn't a drag.
