Looking at it from a detached point of view, many won't see a huge difference between Higher and Glitterball. Hardly surprising that the majority here choose the record vocalised by Ella Henderson over Labrinth

Neither are as good as Nobody to Love or Changing, so its surprising why this new one is doing so well.

I find them miles apart. The chorus is ten times better in Glitterball and I have NOTHING against Labrinth. Even the general public is preferring this to the road-kill that was Higher, so I don't think it's just about the artists.

Yeah you said that before as well, and nobody agreed with that either!

Glitterball is just a bit of summer fluff, fine by me.

I personally prefer Body Talk as a song.

Heard 'Body Talk' for the first time earlier - so painfully average and just there. Nothing going for it at all, i am surprised it has so many fans (unless it's a song that grabs you with repeated listens?).

Anyway, absolutely brilliant for Carly after ~1 play on Radio 1! A huge smash in the waiting with the right support

I agree re. Foxes and that it's pretty "average" for the mass adoration it's getting (even if I do really like it myself), but I think the reason why it hit so hard for me (and possibly others?) is that I had literally NO expectations from it or her. So it was such a great listen. It's been waning more and more on me the more I listen to it, but I put that down to the fact that Brandon and Carly have got this whole 80's new wave sound down to a tee and they're pretty much the two albums I'm constantly playing atm.

Not sure that's quite true  Besides, in real life the reactions I've witnessed are that Higher was a forgettable track, but people still liked Labrinth. Glitterball is seen as watered down, pop music. To an extent, so were Nobody To Love and Changing, but they were almost universally loved.

Of course, what I've seen doesn't speak for the whole music-listening population! It is however an alternative and valid opinion, just like everybody else's.

'in real life the reactions I've witnessed' Haha cringe.

Quite right, you have a opinion and arent afraid to repeat it :0)

I personally find Labrinth very watered down and Higher drab but hey.

Yeah, that was a bit pretentious

Seriously though, if you believed everything you read on forums you'd be surprised by how well some songs ARE actually received by people! Like how the charts aren't an exact barometer to how popular a song is (but better now with streaming I guess).

Yeah, that was a bit pretentious

I'd go with charts as a measure of popularity rather than 3 mates down the pub last Thurs night :0)

See Get Stupid, just made #11, I think that'll probably be its peak...

So happy to see Sigma at 2! I was only expecting 4/5 as its peak so I'm hoping it will hold on and do well next week :cheer:

Obviously the charts indicate how popular a song is  It has the largest sample of people you can possibly get to show how popular a song is.

Yes. It just seems the act of downloading songs seems to be more popular to the younger generation!

People who don't have iTunes or Spotify accounts still listen to music though don't they? Often, what is popular amongst them is not directly related to what's in the chart.

There's been plenty of debate on here on how stations like Capital have too much influence into what's a hit - just because Capital doesn't play a song doesn't make it unpopular  That excludes songs like The Motto, Rack City or Au Seve which never charted but were obviously popular songs.

Anyone who thinks the charts are a 100% representaion as to what's popular is sorely mistaken!

The point is it's more representative than going outside, picking a dozen people and asking their opinions on a song which it is.

2. Sigma - Glitterball (feat. Ella Henderson)

11. Aston Merrygold - Get Stupid

13. Foxes - Body Talk

17. Bring Me The Horizon - Throne

58. Robyn & La Bagatella Magique - Set Me Free

76. Carly Rae Jepsen - Run Away With Me

89. Aston Merrygold - Get Stupid

111. NERVO - The Other Boys (feat. Kylie Minogue, Jake Shears & Nile Rodgers)

114. Tourist - Holding On (feat. Josef Salvat & Niia)

181. Melé - Ambience

186. Faithless - Insomnia 2.0 (Avicii Remix) [Radio Edit]

260. XYconstant - Silverlined

752. Jax Jones - Yeah Yeah Yeah (Radio Edit)

899. Elbow - Lost Worker Bee

Obviously

Its still a system open to manipulation. Everyone knows how label hold songs back so they achieve a high 'peak' position only to tumble down the chart after. You can't tell me songs like that are genuinely popular, they are simply a high seller on a certain week.

I guarentee that Glitterball is not one of the ten most popular songs in the country this week, as this doesn't take into account songs that aren't released yet, but are already popular like the Silento or Sigala songs.

Is that all you post about? How Buzzjack likes female vocals more than male vocals? It's quite boring to read, please change the record.

Glitterball is NICE, the hook is way stronger than that of Higher. I'm a Labrinth fan but his vocals are incredibly boring and unexciting in Higher, whereas Ella's voice brings Glitterball to life. I'd say it's actually my fave Sigma track to date, the first two singles tired on me really quickly.

Of course there will be multiple versions outside the top 100 too so this isn't totally accurate but it's a good idea!

Obviously

You were comparing the charts to opinions you asked people in 'REAL' life, I said that the chart uses a larger sample, so it's a more USEFUL indicator of a song's popularity. I never commented on the reliability of them.

Thanks Joseph! That makings the Now tracks situation a bit clearer. Good to see 'Shine' still easily selling at the second most. Excellent longevity for that track saleswise!

I wonder if John Newman will fall out of the top 10 this week

Is that all you post about? How Buzzjack likes female vocals more than male vocals? It's quite boring to read, please change the record.

Well, obviously not

You could always just block me to be on the safe side, I'm sure plenty of others have!

I think you're putting words in my mouth slightly, I never said the opinions of '12 people' are more valid than the charts

I'm just trying to say that the chart isn't an exact barometer of what is popular as there are plenty of people unrepresented by them and songs that are quite clearly popular in certain age groups that don't chart.
