April 29, 20223 yr Literally just got back from seeing Blondie and Johnny Marr about 40 mins ago. Two iconic acts well past their sell by date but with great songs, history and importance, and still capable of delivering here and there.. I'm lucky in that I'm now largely ticking off bands or singers because I ought to, rather having a huge list of bands I must go see one day but if there's one thing I would say to people it is this - If there is someone you want to see live, just go. Don't put it off until next time. I will forever regret having a ticket to see Siouxsie and the Banshees and passing it over, and not bothering to see R.E.M. (as Bingo Hand Job when I could've got in free0. Worst of all I said I would see Motorhead and Prince 'next time' one time too many. Since Lemmy died I have vowed to go see any band I remotely care to see live the moment I have the opportunity Always assume it could be your last chance and if you can go, go. Apparently The Divine Comedy were there last night as well.
May 7, 20223 yr A wonderfully nostalgic Tom Robinson Band gig tonight at Brighton's Concorde 2. Almost 44 years after I saw him at my first proper gig, Tom Robinson is still a great, engaging performer. He even told a story which he assured us was true about the time when he was facing bankruptcy and selling just about anything he could. A deadlocked bloke showed up and saw some stuff with a TRB logo and said something along the lines of "Ah, Tom Robinson, whatever happened to him?". Tom replied "I am Tom Robinson" and went on to say that he still hoped to make a comeback. He cited the example of Eddie Grant who had enjoyed success with the Equals before seemingly disappearing and then eventually coming back with a string of solo hits. The dreadlocked bloke nodded and said "I am Eddie Grant". I really hope the story is true!

The only time I saw Tom play was at a free festival in London's Brockwell Park back in 1994. Just acoustic, but the sun was out and War Baby never sounded so good as it did then. Tomorrow I am off to see Projector at Camden, which is significant as it will be the 35th time and they will officially break the record for the band I have seen live the most. Then on Thurs, Fri, and Sat it is Great/Alt. Escape here in Brighton, so I have about 10-15 bands a day lined up to see. I'll probably end up with tinnitus
May 10, 20223 yr Ngl I am quite surprised that you don't have chronic tinnitus already...! I always worry a little bit about my hearing after every concert I go to
May 10, 20223 yr Ngl I am quite surprised that you don't have chronic tinnitus already...! I always worry a little bit about my hearing after every concert I go to  There was one week last year I was a bit concerned, did three gigs in four days - thurs, sat, sun - and was right by the stack for two of them and the sunday one was particularly loud. My ears were ringing for a few days and I feared it might be permanent. I bought some earplugs for the following wednesday's gig and thankfully it had faded by thursday.
May 12, 20223 yr After a couple of years going to concerts, I became increasingly distressed by the after effects, which could be a day or more of ringing in my ears, or them feeling kind of muffled in an uncomfortable way. I eventually decided to get some hearing protection from Specsavers. They're made to measure perfectly to the shape of your ears and they reduce the decibels, and I found that I can actually hear the concert better with them in - it's like they provide clarity by filtering out excess decibels. Concerts are obviously still loud even with them in, but it's clearly less harmful for my ears because I don't feel like I'm suffering after concerts anymore. I always feel self conscious putting them in because I rarely notice anyone around me using them (logically I'm sure no one notices or cares what I'm doing, lol), but at the end of the day I know it's extremely worth it. (Lol at some of my wording making this post sound like an advert x)
May 12, 20223 yr ^ What's that hearing protection called? Sounds like something it's worth looking into and possibly investing in. So your advert is working already! I'm seeing the Pet Shop Boys in a couple of weeks at the O2. They're probably my favourite band that I've never seen live so I'm quite excited! Then in August I've got the Victorious festival which includes a whole load of great bands and artists (highlights will be Sam Fender, Bastille, Suede, Declan McKenna, Anne-Marie, Becky Hill, Paolo Nutini, Embrace plus loads more!)

Great to see The Midnight again, new songs since I last saw them. Solid sax playing as ever, great vocals- such a good band. Goose were great support, heard a few things from them before. MCR live... omg. Incredible. Felt like I waited over a decade to hear Welcome To The Black Parade like that. As for supports, was also fun to suddenly hear a BJSC song from Charlotte Sands  and I knew a couple Placebo songs so that was super cool. Starcrawler also sounded pretty good despite not knowing them beforehand.
May 25, 20223 yr I've been wearing earplugs at gigs for ages, all my friends that I go to concerts with have tinitus and pretty serious for years and I usually only go to singer-songwriter gigs but still never without earplugs
May 26, 20223 yr Last minute because my friend has a spare ticket: Years & Years TONIGHT at Wembley. :cheer: An act I've almost seen numerous times over the years, but now I actually am!
