To my surprise, title track 'Music' makes it as high as second place - in fact, it was even leading at one point when I was in the counting up stage. I was sure it had some haters but clearly it is liked, just with some not thinking it's as great as others. 'Music' was chosen as lead single to the album, possibly with the intention of re-establishing Madonna's throne on the pop world following the recent successes of significantly younger Britney and Christina, and would certainly have a thrill at the time. Madonna teamed up with Mirwais Ahmadzaï and his electronic production gave a much more eccentric energy to the cool, dreamy sound that was present on Ray of Light. The combination of stop-start beat, electronically twisted "do you like to boogie woogie?" and high pitched strings really builds the anticipation for the chorus, which then lyrically draws back to the themes of early singles 'Everybody' and 'Into the Groove'; showing how music can unite people regardless of their background. The final 45 seconds where Ahmadzaï just chucks everything he's got into one ball of madness is my favourite part, and gives us a taster of the song that immediately follows on the album and this countdown...

I present your winner: 'Impressive Instant'. This is probably the most bizarre Madonna has gone without the song ending up terrible. To me, this song represents being completely taken over by the music in the club, just letting your body move to the music, spinning around and seeing all the lights flashing, and the music perfectly matches that lyrical theme. It's essentially the finale to 'Music' as I described above just spread across the whole song; bleeps, whirs, sonic whatnots galore. The events that unfolded after the release of the song are almost as crazy as the song itself: Madonna was adamant that 'Impressive Instant' should be the fourth single, but the record company preferred the safer, radio-friendly option of 'Amazing'. Neither parties could reach a conclusion, so the record company decided they'd release 'Amazing' without her permission and promote it on the music channels with a live performance from the tour. Madonna's reaction? She scrapped 'Amazing' from the tour. Brilliant. The song is bat crazy shit but that's why we love it.

Impressive Instant is not a better song than Music. Like, at all. Good album track but hardly an M classic.

If only Warner let II be the last single !!!

It is a massive fan favourite .

Impressive Instant is a MUCH, MUCH better track than Music, fact. Not being a single doesn't mean it isn't better.

How on EARTH!? Baffling that the song managed top half let alone top 3. This has not gone to my liking :heehee: 'Impressive Instant' vs 'Music' for the winner, right? I think I want II to take it just for the shock factor but it is a fabulous top 2~

I'm really surprised you of all people aren't HARD for Paradise. It's the spiritual precursor to Isaac (only better).

Calling 'Paradise' one of the better tracks on this album is bad enough, but saying it is better than 'Isaac'... I don't and can't.

Impressive Instant would have been a great final single from Music, would have definitely been interesting, also "Runaway Lover" or "Paradise (Not For Me)" could have both been in the running if "II" couldn't be released, why were those 2 tracks looked over in favour of "Amazing", glad Madonna pulled that song from her tour, as that song wouldn't have been a great single choice.

'Impressive Instant' so should have been a single; the media couldn't get enough of Madonna at the time so I'm sure even the most casual of fans would have eventually loved it, as a track this unconventional would have undoubtedly took a bit of getting used to for fresh ears. As I say, it is the perfect club anthem that talks about the perfect club experience. Silly record company wanting 'Amazing' to be fourth single - the album had already sailed passed the million mark so there was no need to be so safe.
