Tbf, a lot of people do think like that about Justin Bieber. I was listening to R1 on the way to a date today and the girl rolled her eyes when his new single was announced. We agreed his name is toxic but he has a large legion of young fans who buy and support his music.

Doesn't mean it's a good way to be though :heehee: Whether someone's a fan or not, they shouldn't write it off before they've even heard it. I'm sure most here know I'm no Maroon 5 fan, but I don't make any pre-judgements and will give their singles a listen before I state my opinion. Being open minded is the best way IMO!

I think it's a fair comment. For example, I love Cool For The Summer but I don't really want Demi to get a #1 as I don't like her generally. I think it's a pretty fair thing to not want certain artists you dislike to get to #1 even if it is kind of prejudiced away from their music, especially when Bieber is quite an understandable hate figure as he is.

See I disagree with that. I don't think music should be based on artists. Obviously if it's an artist you like, you're probably more inclined to back it for #1 (I'm sure that's helping my view of the Justin song), but even then, if you dislike an artist but like the song, why not back it for #1? It's the song itself that counts.

It's just natural to not support someone you dislike. I'm open minded with liking music, hence why I love Cool For The Summer despite disliking Demi and love Blank Space despite thinking Taylor Swift is absolutely loathable as a person. But, there's a difference between loving music and SUPPORTING them for success. The artists behind songs clearly help how much you get behind a track or you wouldn't be getting behind What Do You Mean so much and when you dislike an artist, I think it's totally fair to not get behind them with regards to success.

I think it's fine to dislike someone's music because you don't like them as a person/artist, too. I, for one, still have difficulties getting on board with the whole Chris Brown thing, after his homophobic attacks and Rihanna-beaten, as far in the past as the incidents may be.

Edited by Joe.

I get what you mean, I told her I like Where Are U Now and I just don't hear enough of his music to truly comment

I guess people write off whole genres of music in a similar way though and write off songs as 'generic' just because they don't like that music. I've seen it with genres like Dancehall, Hip Hop & Drum & Bass before. Understand why people do it, by its not exactly open-minded!

Heard the new Avicii song with her too. She's a fan of his but didn't really like it whereas I was surprised it was him at all

I'm sorry I don't want to argue with that but I found this funny, because you do the same with Pop and Dance music.

I just don't see why you'd want to see a song you enjoy do badly :P I don't like Jessie J as a person but I very much enjoy her music and seeing her last era flop, Bang Bang aside, was quite sad to see for me, no matter what I think of her personality. If a song's good, it's good, and I'll support it to do well. Might feel a bit eh about liking it, but I wouldn't wish it to do worse because of who the artist is. That's just my view anyway ~

That's why I made the other comment but again its just an opinion to which we're all entitled to

As much as I usually hate his music this might be the track to change my mind, so I'll give it a try later!

Oh and this is fair enough, it just seemed like you were judging it a bit soon. Always good to keep an open mind with regards to music imo :D

Actually I didn't want Justin Bieber's Boyfriend to go to number 1, but in reality I pretty much enjoyed the track (closet-fan )

There's a vast difference between not wanting a #1 and wanting it to do badly tho ~

Not nearly as much anymore, but I get why you'd think that  If I hear a Pop song now that's well produced and catchy enough I'll say that even if I'd never listen to it out of choice (like Black Magic for example).

The point still stands ~

I'd agree with this aswell actually, #1 feels such a success for someone you don't really want to succeed.

5. Demi Lovato - Cool For The Summer

40. Avicii - For a Better Day

49. John Newman - Tiring Game (feat. Charlie Wilson)

54. Imagine Dragons - Roots

80. AlunaGeorge & DJ Snake - You Know You Like It (DJ Snake Remix)

175. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Here's a Candle (For Your Birthday Cake)

180. Katie Melua - Wonderful Life

496. Omi - Hula Hoop

564. Prince - This Could B Us

The point still stands ~

It really doesn't

'Cool For The Summer' is quite good by 2015 pop music standards (not really saying much) but I hope it doesn't outpeak 'Heart Attack' as that was much better.

Not yet heard most of the new releases as usual, 'Hair' being compared to 'Salute' sounds VERY promising for it to be better than 'Black Magic' though. And that list of features on the new Macklemore & Ryan Lewis song! :cheeseblock: Ryan Lewis returning Melle Mel, Kool Moe Dee and Grandmaster Caz to relevance in 2015.

AlunaGeorge/DJ Snake not looking likely to be a hit I guess :( 'You Know You Like It' just never seems to catch a break in any form. At least it did well in the US I guess.

 4. Demi Lovato - Cool for the Summer

Still nicely progressing!

Will be interesting to see how it does on streaming, especially given One Direction's recent single and being somewhat similar to Justin in terms of having a dedicated fanbase who might be able to get his streams high. Rachel currently 0.49 on Justin now, so he hasn't pushed her down too much over the last few hours. Although with the video coming Monday, I can see him getting to #1 with the boost it should provide.

On Bieber. Of course the music and artist form a package which you either like or not. A negative opinion of an artist is bound to effect your overall view of a song, it's a package. That usually means the song has to be stronger to overcome your negative starting point.

Sure Bieber is a bit of a dick and I have a negative starting point. But for me a song like Where are U Now was strong enough for me to have an overall positive view. I haven't heard the new one yet.
