Poor Lovebird :/ Sure the album had better but I think it's a lovely song that didn't deserve to be anywhere near the bottom.

I love Hurt too but I think that's mostly down to her vocals on the last couple of minutes of the song.
FUMF should have did slightly better. Did I vote in this?
Her cover of 'Hurt' is abysmal. Flat, empty, devoid of any emotion or redeeming qualities. I was too generous giving it a 2.

I wouldn't necessarily agree that it's devoid of any emotion. I interpret it as she's emotionally numb when she's in her lower register and then as the song builds and builds, the emotion starts to be expressed.

I like her cover of "Hurt". Especially the ending where her voice just soars. Can't believe what she can do on just one breath! Just listening to the long sustained notes at the end makes me gasp for breath. Her X-factor performance was great, but I prefer her performance of it on the royal variety performance she did:

I also love how it displays her lower register in the studio version, but unfortunately she wasn't able to fully replicate them live (well she did - but they were much quieter). Given how light her voice is though, it's impressive she can go that low! :cheer:

14th: I Am

Average: 7.13

Happy; hopehere (9), american oxygen. (9),Juranamo (9), Dmdr (9), Soeplepel (9), Envoirment (9), LuukLewis (9), Breakaway (9), Jonjo (9)

Trouble; tintin (0), LeeWallace (3), *Tim (3), J▲hq (4), Scene (5), burbe (5.5)

Another single from I Am charting quite low here. It’s a shame because I think ‘I Am’ is a lovely song and better than ‘Thunder’ or ‘Fire Under My Feet’. Though, again, I think there were much better options for a single. ‘I Am’ gets no 10s or 11s but manages a respectable amount of 9s. Annoyingly there is no video for this yet, but I’ll edit it in as soon as we eventually have one.

A slight more of a shocker out next. Any guesses?

13th: Trouble

Average: 7.3

Happy; April (10), HausEveryWeekend (10), Jade (10), Insomnio (9.5)

Trouble; tintin (2), Ultraviolence1989 (3),bartsimpson (3), Pes (5)

And just like that, Glassheart loses all its singles. Poor ‘Trouble’, I really did like it at the time but for me there was something missing that I think didn’t quite connect with audiences. Loads of people do love it though, I think it would have made a great 4th or 5th single but for a lead single, maybe not. There are two versions of the song, a solo version and then one with (the also rather hot) rapper-turned actor Childish Gambino, more commonly known now as Donald Glover who’s recently been in Magic Mike XXL and The Martian. I personally prefer the rap version, as I think it adds a bit of intensity to the track, what do you all prefer?

To be fair, that is about what it deserves. It's an ok song, but when you compare it to her other lead singles (yes, even Happy) it just sounds really bland.
I like the artwork, the video and the rap version of 'Trouble' but Emeli really did give a Leona a bit of a dud (although the original unreleased version may be far better).
Trouble is good, solid, but far from her best... I really like the Hurt cover. Not her absolute best but her vocals on it are insane, I guess it helps that (blasphemy!!11!) I never cared for the original or Johnny Cash versions personally.

I'm not a fan of the original but I like JC's version (not that I'd listen to it out of choice or anything). I think what's good about NIN, Johnny Cash and Leona all doing versions of the song is that they all offer different takes on it. I think some will prefer the context of Cash's version while others will be more moved by the vocals of Leona's.
