September 14, 20159 yr Author FINAL 6 TONIGHT, so stick around. I'll be throwing out the song that sadly missed the top 6 like Beyonce at any point today.
September 14, 20159 yr Author 6th: I Got You Average: 8.01 8BdyI8Uwmus Happy; Cameron (11), GTH (11), Froot. (11), bartsimpson (10), Jonjo (10), Jay (10), Ultraviolence1989 (9.5), Insomnio (9.5) Trouble; Soeplepel (4), Aled. (5), Scene (5.5) Just because there is a new ‘I Got You’ in town, let's not forget about this. As much as some people see this as a song that under-performed, it peaked at #14 and spent 6 weeks in the top 40, which is very decent for a post-album track. I’m glad ‘I Got You’ has done as well as this, because I still think it’s a stunning song - lots of you seem to agree as it becomes the first single in the rate to make an 8 average.
September 14, 20159 yr I do like it, but they made a HUGE mistake releasing it over 'Outta My Head' (and I'll always slightly resent it because of that).
September 14, 20159 yr Let's not forget the director's cut of the I Got You video  https://vimeo.com/97651351 Edited September 14, 20159 yr by Krusty111
September 14, 20159 yr I Got You was a big step up from the limp Happy, but it really should have been Outta My Head. It's by far the best uptempo track she has done (and is ever likely to do) and at that time there was enough goodwill and hype behind her that 'oh look Leona can do a good uptempo' would probably have been rather helpful for her career.
September 14, 20159 yr This was the start of Syco REALLY messing up Leona's career. In my opinion it is the weakest track on Echo and 'Outta My Head' being the second single would've been a no-brainer for any other record company - especially after the short success of 'Happy'.

It wouldn't have been so bad if Syco had at least pushed a 3rd and 4th single from Echo, who chooses to wrap up an album campaign that has sold close to 700,000 copies because the second single doesn't take off? She had at least a couple more moderate hits on there.

Cheryl's post-album single 'The Flood' only made #18 and probably sold less a year or so later and no one was screaming flop at her. Sadly, for Leona, due to her monster success a year or two prior, anything less than top 10 would have been seen as a huge under-performance at the point of IGY's release. I think it was also "only" C-Listed by Radio 1 most likely due to its blandness. If OMH was released as the second single, I think it would've been a definite top 10 for her at least in the UK. It would have breathed fresh life into a campaign that was already on its last legs by February 2010.

Edit: Oh wait, I forgot about Can't Breathe...ok she needed 5 singles from Echo. Haha Edited September 14, 20159 yr by Dmdr
September 14, 20159 yr Thank goodness for that, it's just so limp and boring. Unforgivable. And you say the same about Collide and Happy too? I'm out. Right song to just miss the top 5. Hope we aren't in for a Bleeding Love win.

To be fair on Cheryl though, 'The Flood' also marked the end of the campaign for Messy Little Raindrops!
September 14, 20159 yr Yeah its all true, I think OMH followed by Naked would have been great. I love Naked. Edit: Oh wait, I forgot about Can't Breathe...ok she needed 5 singles from Echo. Haha From the songs that actually made Echo, I would have gone: 1. Happy 2. Outta My Head 3. Naked 4. Don't Let Me Down (feat. Justin Timberlake) - I don't care if he only does backing vocals on this, giving him a credit in the title would've helped. 5. Can't Breathe I know 'Happy' didn't exactly help Leona's career commercially (in fact it most likely hindered it) but I have so much love for the song (and video) that I couldn't imagine it being anything other than the lead single. If Syco included 'Scene of the Crime' on the album, that should've been the second worldwide single. But, again, it was another almighty cock-up from Syco.
September 14, 20159 yr Yes I totally agree "Outta My Head" should have been the 2nd single, here's what the era should have been = 01. Can't Breathe 02. Outta My Head 03. Happy 04. Naked 05. I Got You or Stop Crying Your Heart Out

It isn’t quite as good, but I felt ‘Happy’ should have been almost as big as ‘Bleeding Love’, it’s such a powerful and emotive song with a huge chorus. The only negative I have about ‘Happy’ is its artwork. In fact, none of the echo artwork was to my liking.
September 14, 20159 yr Author 4th: Better In Time Average: 8.75 qSxyffSB7wA Happy; pippa (11), mr_pmt (11), Jonjo (10), Jay (10), ḇreakaway (10) Nick F1 (10), J▼hnkm (10), Juranamo (10), LeeWallace (10), JosephStyles (10), Acidburn (10), Trouble; Scene (4) Another amazing single from Leona, ‘Better In Time’ was the other half of ‘Footprints in the Sand’ and the much bigger hit at the time. It was nominated for the ‘Best British Single’ Brit Award and holds a silver certification. ‘Better In Time’ manages an average of 8.75, making it so close to the top 3, but being pushed down by just a handful of low scores. September 14, 20159 yr I Got You is nice, but thats its nice. Never should of been a single and really doesn't represent the EPICNESS of Echo. Love Better in Time, such a great song, as is Happy.
