I agree AdamAloud. There is something very underwhelming about all three Superfinalists. Though of the three, I'd rather see Ghost go to Stockholm.

Glad it won over other two finalists. Ghost sounds better on the third listen but hasn't grown on me yet.

I can't see it doing particularly well in Eurovision, it isn't instant enough. But once it grows it is amazing and luckily I've already allowed it to do that! :heart: I'm sensing a Molly-esque result for Jamie-Lee.

 

Germany are on an incredible run this decade, all of their entries are 9/10+ moments for me bar Elaiza - not sure any other country matches up to that for me, even Cyprus and Estonia!

Pre-emptively saying FUCK YOU GERMANY but I do need to listen to Jamie Lee again so it could grow. Don't think it's going to do very well at all though.

Yep! It went to #1 on iTunes once Jamie-Lee won The Voice (in December I think) as it was her winner's single, and I think it charted at #11 officially. If only our talent shows had winner's singles that were actually good original pop songs!

Ahh, that's why it's on the compilation! I quite like the all too rare trend of established domestic hits being used as Eurovision entries.

It's a nice listen, I imagine it will grow on me. It's quite similar to the songs in our NF, a quite obvious sub 20th finish really.

Just under 1.9 million votes were cast in last nights German Eurovision selection process Unser Lied für Stockholm. The show last night was viewed by 4.47 million people, which is the largest viewing figure for a German selection process since 2010 when Lena was selected to represent the country in Oslo.

 

In the first round 770,809 votes were cast, the closest voting was between Avantasia and Alex Diehl with just 600 votes between them. The voting break down for the first round is as follows:

I think I loved Masters of Chant, so atmospheric, so captivating! I don't think it will win this selection, but if it did I think that's a Eurovision top 5 contender.

Funnily enough, I've been listening to quite a lot of Gregorian recently. I came across them on youtube after listening to a cover version of an OMD song. One of their OMD covers came up in the linked videos, and I moved on from there. Some of their covers are a bit weak, but others are very good.

 

Having now listened to Masters Of Chant, that is rather good too. It would provided some variety if they had qualified.

Jamie-Lee will release her debut album 'Berlin' on April 29th, including 'Ghost', instant grat 'Berlin' (a cover of the RY X song she performed on The Voice) and a cover of 'The Hanging Tree' which was her stand-out performance during her stint on The Voice of Germany.

 

She also performed on the German ECHO Music Awards tonight, same staging as in the national final so I'd be expecting the same thing again in Stockholm next month which isn't a bad thing as I think it's very effective. Worth mentioning that 10 Eurovision-related acts were up for awards tonight according to ESC Nation including Lena, Avantasia, Unheilig, Santiano, Gregorian and the late Roger Cicero - very sad news about Roger a couple of weeks ago, such a young age :(.

 

Really shows that Germany do put very high quality acts into their national finals and the UK really should be following their lead. Not that a big name means big success in Eurovision, I'm the first to say that an unknown act can be just as good if not better, but it is basically the equivalent of us putting some of our BRITs nominees into a national final so it really shows the commitment from them.

I still can't believe how Germany have really lost it the past few years, considering after Lena's victory they were getting it SO RIGHT. It's all Cascada's fault for flopping.

They may have lost it results-wise, but they are on the strongest run of any country for me in the whole contest I think - they have been in my amazing category 6 times in 7 years, only Elaiza was an average moment!

I was thinking the same earlier but came to the conclusion that it's probably more due to the fact that Lena and, to a lesser extent, Roman Lob, were anomalies that made it look like Germany were finally finding some form again.

 

Other than that Germany just often seem to tap into genres nobody wants to hear with mediocre songs and are duly rewarded with crap results, much like the UK. I see it like this:

 

2005 - Gracia - just a plain crap sprock mess

2006 - Texas Lightning - this deserved top ten actually but I guess the voters weren't after country

2007 - Roger Cicero - nice enough and I'm so sad to hear that he passed away but big band and Eurovision doesn't work

2008 - No Angels - pleasant generic pop song but not a standout and their vocals were horrible in parts

2009 - Alex Swings Oscar Sings - See 2007...not sure why they thought this would be a good idea, even if it was more uptempo

2013 - Cascada - Natalie lost it a bit on the night vocally and the visual performance could have been a lot more substantial. Plus I guess the voters just weren't looking for clubland generica in 2013 (as much as I ADORE Glorious). Also, the cut of the first verse in the ESC edit made the song sound quite hurried imo.

2014 - Elaiza - A bizarre choice of entry...catchy enough but nobody ordered an accordian-based song, and it sounded incredibly naff after Conchita

2015 - Ann Sophie - The Ella Eyre kiss of failure strikes again...but again, it was too 'nice' and 'just there'

2016 - Jamie-Lee - It's just meandering and once again not particularly instant and the styling is completely horrendous...can see this in last place

'Miss Kiss Kiss Bang' deserved better. Rewatched 2009 recently and was shocked to see how decent it was. Maybe not the most suitable entry for the contest ever but you could tell they put in real effort there.

I still hold that the instrumental in Run & Hide is one of the best and most invigorating this contest has ever produced.

 

But you're right, their experimenting often doesn't work in that their entries have too few people who'll call it their favourite entry at the end of the night. I can't imagine who'll be remembering Ghost in that way after it's been performed.
