The Coldplay song is predictable and boring on first listen. They're not the band they used to be.

More often than not they have been predictable and boring to me.

WHAT? Why on earth are people buying the old John Lewis songs just because there's a new advert? I really don't get the UK public sometimes

As I seem to be in the minority with my Fleur opinions today I'm going to make it worse by agreeing that Coldplay are boring to me too

I'll agree with you on Coldplay there, torresgirl :kink:

Increased exposure! Many articles have been published over the last few days talking about previous John Lewis ads, I know there was a poll on Digital Spy to vote for your favourite also. This increased exposure leads to people rediscovering the songs and buying them :magic:

Yey!! :)

I don't get people saying Simon knew he'd never get a hit out of Ben. That's only because Syco have very little vision when it comes to males, there's plenty of marketability in taking him down a OneRepublic/Maroon 5 route and those type of artists have longevity because it kind of doesn't go out of fashion with the public like Fleur probably will.
I don't want to start the thread learning how to count again, but I agree that Coldplay's single is a bit shit. Also, the album cover is kind of hideous.

I agree and there is room for both to do well. (al la Alexandra and JLS when they were first and second respectively) They completely messed up Ben's release date and released his song with no promo in the first two weeks etc. Hardly going to go Top Ten when nobody but die hard fans have seen him for almost a year plus no streaming OA/OS etc etc. I thought he actually did pretty well on fan base buys considering. Whether they can't be bothered and he put all his eggs in Fleur's basket (oo-eer) or they just messed it up is another story. Ben is very marketable. I am interested to see if they is any good promo for his album release week.

There is a problem though since Ben doesn't have a band and I just don't think Ben can succeed on his own (unless he is Ed or Sam talented (which we all know he's not)).

Ben Haenow has/had potential if Syco marketed him and got the release strategy correct. The single was released on the wrong week, syco appear clueless on how to manage males, they consistently mess it up, and they have really let some talented singers slip through their fingers.

Ben may have missed the top 10 but he has 3 steady chart weeks to its credit SO FAR, that said, 100,000- 120,000 looks like the likely sales total for second hand heart. The song is great and Ben also performed it great by himself on X Factor.

So good to see the latter two acts names in the charts again. :D

I assume WSTRN will be ahead in the first couple of mids but After X Factor Fleur will overtake, easily.

Definitely. I was expecting them to overtake at some point today because of their higher number of pre-orders.
