Jack Garratt, really? That's pretty irritating, given how much support the BBC have been giving him already this year; but I guess Critics Choice doesn't necessarily mean Sound of... support (see Emeli Sande).

Think the criteria is if theyve ever had a top 40 hit before!

Years and Years did and they won in 2015

Yeh right enough, at any rate this artist normally jumps from radio 1 support over to commercial radio quite quickly.

List is out:

~ Alessia Cara

~ Billie Marten

~ Blossoms

~ Dua Lipa

~ Frances

~ Izzy Bizu

~ Jack Garratt

~ J Hus

~ Loyle Carner

~ Mabel

~ Mura Masa

~ Nao

~ Rat Boy

~ Section Boyz

~ WSTRN

Great to see J Hus, Section Boyz & WSTRN make the list. :cheer: I thought J Hus had a chance after how popular Lean & Bop is and Section Boyz won Best Newcomer at the MOBO Awards. WSTRN have the potential to be massive as well.

Not surprised that Izzy Bizu & Nao made it either.

All signs point to Jack winning this, as personally I've only liked 'The Love You've Given' of his first few singles so far. And I can't see him ultimately managing that commercial crossover that most of the winners have managed to at least some point (Clearly not including that Kiwanuka person).

Of the list, I'm not as familiar with as many of the artists as I usually am, but I have enjoyed what I've heard from Frances and Izzy Bizu so far.

JACK GARRATT and ALESSIA CARA to smash this list pleaseeeee!! :yahoo: :w00t:

FRANCES, SECTION BOYZ & IZZY or NAO to complete the top 5!!!

WSTRN shouldn't be eligible for this list, as they have had a massive top 5 hit :o  ... plus if WSTRN are included, then so should ZARA LARSSON be  , cause she is gonna be hugeeeeee!!!

Disappointed not to see these 5 artists on the list  , but i'm sure they will do well in 2016 regardless:-

HALSEY

ELIZA & THE BEAR

SEAFRET

SHAKKA

SNAKEHIPS

how are WSTRN eligible for this when they've already had a huge hit?!?

Last year the criteria was no top 20 single or album up until the 4th of November. I imagine the cut off date is pretty much the same this year, hence why WSTRN are just eligible.

Give the suprise win to Alessia Cara please, I beg of you

Happy to see Mabel, Nao, Izzy Bizu and Jack Garrett on here too. They can have the other 4 spots :kink:

VERY strong list imo. I'm actually familiar with all 15 artists - mostly just from listening to Annie Mac and occasionally Huw Stephens on R1.

Jack Garratt as an early backing - it's obvious he'll do great things with radio support next year. I like to think they'll shortlist Mura Masa too - what talent!

Here's the Blog Sound of 2016 list:

  • 4 weeks later...

Scott Mills will announce the first result of the poll on Radio 1's Breakfast Show on January 4th.

I'm hoping Dua Lipa or Mabel snatch this.

An Alessia Cara, Mabel, Dua Lipa, Jack Garratt, NAO top 5 please with a NAO win, as unlikely as that is.

I definitely want those 5 too, just not in that order :P
