I do worry about Jack Garratt if he wins - I can't see him doing big things in 2016. Artists usually haven't had THAT much support as a solo artist prior to list. But Jack Garrat is on his 3rd song to be quite heavily playlisted on Radio 1 and I feel as though interest for him has been over-estimated somewhat? Considering how much airplay he's had, I don't feel the buzz for him, the way that there has been for previous winners Smith, Years & Years, Haim. It doesn't help that for me 'The Love You're Given' was head and shoulders above anything he's released since, for me.

Yes, I agree with you Joe.

In many ways his music is quite similar to James Blake who came 2nd in 2011 and scored just the 1 Top 40 hit (“Limit To Your Love” No 39), although I have heard him played on commercial stations I doubt he has the potential to crossover into the mainstream in the same way Years & Years have. Though James Blake certainly gathered a reasonable fan base and has had reasonable album success.

This is exactly what I keep thinking. Yes, he's very talented and good at what he does, which is maybe why people are so keen to push him, but he's really not commercial enough to be a success. I think he could have a moderately successful album but nothing beyond that.

*becomes as inescapable as Sam Smith & Emeli Sande*

Looking at his Wiki though I've just seen that he tried to represent the UK in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

Yeah, I can see Jack doing big things on the more exclusively indie scene, as well as with critics. And I know it doesn't really MATTER, as quality doesn't always equate to sales. But I don't see him moving over into the mainstream the way that previous winners have done - which is something Radio 1 constantly big up themselves. (Michael Kiwanuka aside). I know Haim didn't cross over quite as much, but they had four top 40 singles, sold out some pretty big gigs and had a number 1 album.

Bonzai wasn't nominated :(

Oh no I didn't realise, Doses is wonderful!

I agree on Jack Garrett too but I'm glad they aren't going down the route of Sam Smith etc as they are very mainstream and nothing really new apart from the fact they make Brillant pop songs and have amazing voices whereas Jack is unique in a whole different way and it will and has been good to hear him on mainstream radios.

Looking forward to the album!

Difficult for them not to choose to support the only band on the poll really - liking Blossoms a lot, so glad to see a T5 placing.

Every year, part of me hopes they just ignore the Critics' Choice winner, but Jack Garratt is an obvious sound of 2016, so I can't see them not giving him #1 or #2. I'd say Alessia Cara and Dua Lipa perhaps will take the remaining two spots. I'd be happy with that T5 (but really 6) I think.

Urgh, how did I forget about Nao. Surely the people involved in deciding who the T5 are won't miss out on championing her?

Frances is too much like Rae Morris to be celebrated with a T3 placing in my opinion, especially when Rae didn't even get T5 recognition.

I'm going for Jack Garratt, Nao and Alessia Cara - though part of me is hoping they don't shortlist Cara, what with "Here" doing really well in the US at the moment; so it's bound to cross over and do well here in the coming months regardless I reckon.

Ooh how intriguing! Now every time he's mentioned I'll be able to promote Junior Eurovision *.*

I wasn't expecting another person who was in a UK Junior Eurovision selection to go onto success though as of course we have Nathan Sykes who was 3rd in the 2004 selection. Fun fact, the person that won in 2004 auditioned for the X Factor last year (and a couple of years before) but got caught up in a media storm. It just shows how fickle the music industry is, with Cory Spedding who won that selection and came 2nd in Junior Eurovision still trying her best to get noticed by a record label (her covers on Facebook show she still has an incredible voice), whereas we have Nathan and Jack who came 3rd and last in their selections doing what Cory has unfortunately not managed.

Anyway I hope the fact Dua got playlisted last month means she's in with a shout of a top 3 placing!

NAO in third place - I knew the voters wouldn't miss out on a chance to promote such a unique voice. Other than Jack Garratt, I really can't call who else'll feature in the T2 now.
I agree with everybody that Jack Garratt is good and very James Blake-esque but not very commercial... but actually... who in that list is commercial??? imho no one!! that list has no Ed Sheeran/Sam Smith... Alessia Cara is the only one that is making it big in the US but I think that's more to do with the sample used in the song than anything...

Nao has come 3rd. okay Section Boyz have no chance now (not that i'm bothered)...and Frances had a TOTD on the Sunday just gone, so maybe that indicates she never made the top 5 either!!

Top 2 have to be JACK GARRATT  AND ALESSIA CARA  . There is no doubt about that. Who else on that longlist are really deserving of those top 2 places? -- Answer = NO ONE!!!

I'd really like to see Dua Lipa in the top 2...What are the chances?

0%. literally no chance in hell.

Alessia Cara is at #2

Kinda saw this coming after "Here" was re-added to the playlist for next week, I know someone who'll be chuffed with this result #psychicmack25 :kink:

oh yay Jack Garrett's predictably got the #1 here then :nocheer: I don't like it when the Critics Choice award and the Sound Of winner are the same.
same here, when I saw yesterday that Alessia Cara was adde to R1's playlist I imagined she'd be in the top 2
