Hey guys,

just wondering if you can think of any hits that charted high in several charts worldwide but failed to make any impact in the UK? Non-Top 40 hits in the past 10 years was the criteria I was aiming for but if you can think of earlier songs feel free to list them as well!

I'm making a list myself right now which I'll put up later.

I think there was a similar topic to this not too along ago so trying to remember some examples of this, the big one was Michael Telo - Ai Se Eu Te Pego - #1 in literally every single country in Europe but not even top 40 in UK.

Have these couple of songs listed for 2014 though they all fit under different variations of the word "hit". Some were big but others just moderate hits in a couple of EU countries.

"Sun Goes Down" by Robin Schulz featuring Jasmine Thompson

"Wicked Wonderland" by Martin Tungevaag

"Walk" by Kwabs

"Liar Liar" by Cris Cab featuring Pharrell Williams

"Freaks" by Timmy Trumpet featuring Savage

"Invisible" by U2

"The Chamber" by Lenny Kravitz

"Masterpiece" by Jessie J

"Derniere Danse" by Indila

"Man Down" by Rihanna did well in the EU and sold OK in other regions. Only hit #59 here, though admittedly it wasn't properly pushed as a single.

Still bitter about Shakira's "Loca" too - released everywhere but here and Australia I believe (though you can get the album it features on).

I Wanna Go by Britney. Top 10 in the US and didn't even chart in the Top 100 here.

Modern Talking - You're My Heart, You're My Soul

Top 10 in most European countries twice over, once in 1985 and again as a remix in 1998 - even reached #8 in Ireland. Only got to #59 in the UK, but 'Brother Louie' would eventually make #4.

1998 remix:

I don't think it was pushed in the US but Lykke Li's 'I Follow Rivers' (specifically the remix) was huge pretty much everywhere in Europe (Even Ireland where it was their 16th highest selling song of the year) other than the UK.

Enrique Iglesias - Bailando

Over 1 billion views on youtube, 10th best selling song of 2014 and a huge hit across Europe/South America and even did really well in the US (over 3 million copies sold there).

Another huge one from the 1980s, Gazebo - I Like Chopin. Not sure if it was even ever released in the UK as it would have gone top 5 with ease I think.

I guess there´s many cases of songs in Spanish like Loca or Bailando, or in Portuguese (Ai te Pego) that fail to chart in the UK cos of the language

Have there been many US top 10 hits that failed to chart in the UK???? Cannot think of many, besides the recent Britney one...

I can only recall this song, Love Is by Vanessa Williams and Bryan McKnight, was taken from the Beverly Hills 90120 Soundtrack,

and was a #3 in the US... not sure why it didn't do a thing in the UK, but it's a great ballad

Regarding the Spanish language barrier, the same could be said for "Papaoutai" by Stromae - definitely one of the biggest hits in Europe in 2013 but of course never charted in the UK. The same applies to the rest of his hits, even "Alors On Danse" which charted in the UK but probably would have been Top 10 if it had been in English.

also a few years ago Shakira's La Tortura was huge!

but Alizee Moi Lolita did chart

Run this show - Kat Deluna

Probs a hit nowhere except in my head, but still, it was robbed. -_-

Obviously on the bottom part of this list are songs that may possibly yet appear in the UK Top 40 but haven't as of today so I'm listing them here.

In 1967 Lulu topped the USA Charts for 5 Weeks with 'To Sir With Love'.

It was the USA's Best Seller for that Year.

For some peculiar reason it was decided not to release it as an 'A' Side here in the UK.

It was relegated to the 'B' Side of 'Let's Pretend', which did not even reach the Top 10.

It was a No.11 Hit.

(I Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection by Nelson was a number 1 hit in the USA but didn't chart in the UK. This is because it was awful and the band was basically made up of two Pat Sharpe look-a-likes.

El Perdon by Nicky Jam & Enrique Iglesias was #1 in lots of European countries but didn't chart in the UK. It was also one of the best songs to soundtrack my summer in Central America so I have fond memories.

Also 'El Taxi' was all over the radio in Central America this summer, although I can't find a chart record for it so don't know if it strictly fits into this criteria. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNBYafx4QLs

lights by ellie goulding comes to mind. such a criminally low peak of #49 over here.
^that's probably the most shocking, considering that Ellie is from the UK
