Hi Dobbo

Wrapped Up was quite a tune, made it into my 2014 list though. I agree with you it takes a few listens but remains enjoyable for quite a while. I'm quite a fan of the rap though, think it works with the song.

FFS is really, really good. The only thing that's been put down as a Rihanna classic from this era so far. Love how different it was for her but it gives her voice the chance to shine and it's quite an earworm too. Kanye sort of ruined it a bit though...

:D

FourFiveSeconds is my favorite so far, a strange collaboration but it sounds divine and gets too much hate!

Also a fan of The Fix, Sorry, and Afraid To Love.

Great countdown so far Dobbo! Brilliant to see 'FourFiveSeconds' narrowly miss the top 75, it seems to be really underrated on this site.

The Fix was quite a good comeback from Nelly although it should have done better in the chart :( Hey QT was such a great song, I had it a similar chart run in my chart too :P

Reflections as usual with Example :music: and Wrapped Up just sounds like a Bruno Mars Treasure rip off for me :( it's ok though. 45S is still so boring though  The Him remix is great however.

Yeah agreed surprised it flopped as badly as it did even if I wasn't expecting top 20 standards. Still give Hey QT the odd whirl nowadays what a bundle of joy

Wrapped >>> Treasure tho :P got bored of that one rather quickly indeed. Heard 45S on the music channels recently and it regarnered my love it, not heard that particular remix mind!

Hey QT was okay but the vocals are a bit too pitchy. Never got big in my chart.

Reflections was really poor, I miss the days when Example made good songs.

FourFiveSeconds was surprisingly great, shame her career has gone downhill since.

Ah I love the squeaky vocals, there is a pitched down version out there you might prefer but I can never get in to knowing the true original

Naaa Reflections is the bomb, Whisky Storey was a bit below par for him but I'm still hoping he can nab the odd hit One More Day style.

Ya very true, American Oxygen was a really poor release IMO, killed off the campaign's momentum (BBHMM was risky but paid off better than Pour It Up managed of a same vein style track).

Hey QT is great and Joker is also really good

Another Joker fan! Didn't expect it, relistened a few times today still very good :)

QT  Such a good tune

3 top tracks right there, prefer them to quite a few tracks yet to be annouced!

Yes it was like the opposite to Troublemaker which hit me from the first listen but got a bit tiring through overplay. Wrapped Up meanwhile grew on me DUE to overplay haha. Travie's section I can give or take but I see your point.

45S does have a pretty catchy hook, I like the almost dreary verses too in a weird way including Kanye's parts. There's a lot of variety in the track which it probably what keeps me interested and it was nice change of sound to her usual efforts which were almost on the verge of rolling into one eventually.

Thanks Riser! Good picks there I agree the collab on paper looked a bit bemusing but it came out very well all thing considered.

Glad you're enjoying it Adam. It's a very marmitey track on this forum for sure!

75. Galantis - Runaway (U & I)

Total points: 205

Chsrt run: 8-4-9-14-16-36-27-28-X-30-33

Kicking off the top 75 it's Swedish outfit Galantis with their hugely successful hit Runaway (U & I). This track was an instant for me, those dreamy vocals, that euphoric production and that pummeling instrumental breakdown all amounted to an extremely solid house song. It was great to see this take off in the charts here as I really didn't see it coming initially and I definitely considered them to be an act that would peak on the first song I heard of theirs, however as we will see they went on to produce an even greater track which blew this one's chart run out of the water.

74. DJ S.K.T (feat. Rae) - Take Me Away

Chart run: 19-24-22-16-23-24-13-11-19-33

Speaking of solid house tracks, this was right up there too. The subgenre of deep house is always something I'm on the fence with as it can have a tendency to become uninteresting but that was certainly not the case with Take Me Away. Of course a sample of a sample in effect but moreso reminding me of the sensational Warrior's Dance, DJ S.K.T served up a delicious makeover coupled with brilliant vocals (no, they are NOT of Kiesza I have now been reliably informed) to give the popular song a new lease of life. Had this been released as recently as last year I am certain it would have been a huge #1 contender. In this chart it had a very steady run and was one of those ever so unlucky #11 peakers.

73. Cascada - Reason

Total points: 206

Chart run: 8-3-10-9-9-23-23-38-40

So Cascada had been out of the limelight for a good while now when I caught wind of them releasing something at long last but what's this? A remake of one of their earliest hits? This could really have gone either way and haven't listened to said original was unsure of how this "remake" would pan out. But oh my word it sounds JUST like their biggest hits which I have missed the sound of for years! This really could have slotted in anytime between Everytime We Touch & What Hurts The Most for example and this self-throwback was a delight to behold. Needless to say it shot right into the top 10 where it stayed for 5 weeks before an unusually high active period pushed it down too quickly really for my liking on reflection.

72. OMI - Hula Hoop

Total points: 207

Chart run: 33-12-6-8-8-15-21-23-36

OMI will forever be riding off the back of the monstrous Cheerleader but that didn't stop him putting out a few more singles and a whole album in fact, something you wouldn't always expect from an act of this ilk. Upon first hearing Hula Hoop I really didn't find it all that special and certainly not something I'd expect to end up in my top 10 but it slowly picked up and fully clicked to give it 3 weeks up there. Retaining the summery sound and ever so infectious chorus from said predecessor, this did more than enough to stand out on its own and I was sure this would blow up and remove his one hit wonder tag but alas, it did not. It will of course forever remain in Cheerleader's shadow but, given how much I rate that song, that is no bad thing at all.

71. Charlie Puth (feat. Meghan Trainor) - Marvin Gaye

Total points: 208

Chart run: 19-15-9-20-22-20-21-26-34-40-37-31-33-39

Now we arrive at the largely maligned Marvin Gaye. There was a lot of negative criticism about this song but in my books, it was always taken as a lighthearted, catchy pop song and nothing more. Charlie Puth of course was coming off the back of the worldwide smash See You Again and I really wasn't sure on how we would fare as a lead artist or even what type of sound he would be gunning for. I have to say I wasn't expecting something this good really! Teaming up with Meghan Trainor, another act I've been a fan of this year, they brought us this rather amusing love song incorporating soul legend Marvin Gaye as a verb throughout. Some of the lyrics are cheesy, cringeworthy in fact, but with a song as catchy as this I can forgive all that. Only spending 1 week in the top 10 it managed good longevity with 14 weeks in total, a late flourish following its impact on the UK Charts.

good section there, 'Runaway' will definitely be appearing in my hot 100 - big tune.

forgot how 'Reason' sounded like, Cascada stopped being interesting years ago.

I never really got into 'Hula Hoop', 'Cheerleader' just does the song so much better so no surprise that flopped.

Hi Dobbo

Big fan of Runaway here, I agree with you on dreamy vocals and euphoric production, just sound so refreshing each time I heard it and refused to tire on me at all. For me PBJ is weaker though by quite a bit !

Loved Hula Hoop, it has all the good bits of Cheerleader but gets rid of all the annoying bits, shame it never was a hit in the end because I way prefer it.

I love Marvin Gaye too, not sure why it received so much hate, yes the lyrics are a bit cringey but they're touch in cheek and the song is really catchy, they have nice chemistry too.

Lovely section :D

ooh 'Runaway (U & I)' is fantastic, miles better than the dreadful 'Peanut Butter Jelly. That song is just so irritating and meh...

'Hula Hoop' is alright but certainly not anything on 'Cheerleader' imo!

Yasss Cascada but shame the music they are producing right now is shit lol 'Everytime We Touch' >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

'Marvin Gaye' gets a lot of hate in the real world too, people at my work were changing the lyrics to 'I hate this song' along with the melody  :( aside from the corny nonsensical lyrics it's not that bad. Songs wise this is a million times better from Charlie than his feature on 'See You Again' which was just dull as dishwater even though the meaning/tribute was a nice touch!

Good stuff :D

All of those are good/great songs Dobbo :music: especially Hula Hoop and Runaway :music:

Yeah Runaway was a pretty popular track on here so expecting it in many poster's lists.

They did but given this song was just like years ago I made an exception for it :D

Cheerleader is far superior yes but I'm glad he didn't just stop after that one track.

Runaway did get a bit tiring especially once it got big here, preferred when it was a lesser known gem :P And nooo Peanut Butter Jelly is amazing and that certainly won't be a track which tires.

Ah so there are people who prefer Hula Hoop?! I do love that kind of sound but it was just a subpar Cheerleader all things considered.

Fully agreed on Marvin Gaye, it was always a fun listen and plus there have been way worse lyrical offences this year anyway

 At this PBJ hate, so much better IMO! Although I'd be surprised if they were get a third hit from that album which was pretty poor aside.

Yeah agreed on Hula Hoop but as said I'm all for that kind of sound and it was one of the only other good tracks on the album,

Well I don't know of any other Cascada stuff recently just this remake which was surprisingly very good!

Na Marvin Gaye is just really good pop to me. See You Again was 'ok' for about 5 listens then I was completely over it. Not a fan of the film series either so it didn't really have any catch for me.

Runaway and Marvin Gaye are both fantastic, 2 of my favourites this year

Good picks, no more appearances from Charlie or Meghan but a huge one to come from Galantis!

All of those are good/great songs Dobbo :music: especially Hula Hoop and Runaway :music:

Thank ya! Hula Hoop really should have been a successful follow up...

Galantis, DJ.S.K.T and Charlie Purth ft Meghan all really good

Yes some S.K.T love at last

Thanks all, hope you're enjoying the rundown so far.

70. David Guetta & Showtek (feat. MAGIC! & Sonny Wilson) - Sun Goes Down

Total points: 210

Chart run: 10-11-11-12-8-21-16-29

David Guetta was back with a bang in 2014, first releasing 2 of my favourite ever tracks of his in Shot Me Down & Bad. Then followed the rather less good Lovers On The Sun before rescuing it back with the sublime Dangerous. All these were to feature on his latest album 'Listen' which of course I was all too eager to hear. It was a brilliant album, even eclipsing Calvin Harris' Motion which was out around the same time. A number of album tracks entered this chart but it was this huge collaboration which did the business. Roping in Showtek again but also bringing in MAGIC! (who produced one of the worst songs last year in Rude) and the ever so boisterous Sonny Wilson, they all combined to make this absolute powerhouse of a tune which was equally banging as much as crazy. It really has a bit of everything which made it by far the standout non-single on the album and when the official lyric video dropped recently I had high hopes this would be the next song to be pushed, however the wait goes on...

Runaway (You & I) is amazing, Marvin Gaye, Take Me Away and Hula Hoop are all good, but I haven't heard Reason or Sun Goes Down.

69. Ferreck Dawn & Redondo - Love Too Deep

Total points: 211

Chart run: 25-13-35-37-X-27-36-31-39-36-38-30-24-17-24-29-23-25-38

This track without any doubt was one of my favourites of 2014, so much so its chart life extended far into the turn of this year. Just a perfectly produced house track, with a real strong vocal loop and a brilliant sample use of the evergreen Show Me Love. It was one of those tracks that clicked with me immediately and would almost certainly have made the year end top 10 last time out. As it is, for a track that was put out in the Summer of last year, to last 18 total weeks after November is quite some achievement. It has proved to be a song I am still not tired of hearing and that will most likely remain the case always!
