68. Little Mix - Black Magic

Total points: 212

Chart run: 20-26-23-25-34-35-25-18-12-16-27-30-35-39-38

Little Mix for the most part are a group whose songs I can give or take. Tracks that I don't usually mind hearing on the radio, on TV etc. but perhaps wouldn't opt to listen to on my own accord. The sole exception to that prior to this year was the outstanding 'DNA' which is up there with one of my favourite girlband tracks ever. Then along came 'Black Magic' which can now be added to that elite group of two. This is just such a happy, feelgood song which encapsulates all the positive aspects of what pop should be. I liked the throwback eighties sound akin to Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and the general fun and catchiness which made it so relistenable. Despite not cracking the top 10 here it amassed nearly 4 months on the chart which shows just how little it tired on me and in fact it still really hasn't to this day.

67. Badpojken - Johnny G (The Guidetti Song)

Every now and then you come across these novelty-like songs that you just fall in love with. Here is a classic example of just that! A bouncy dance number regarding a Swedish footballer by the name of "John Guidetti" (a former Man City, Stoke & Celtic player for those of a sporting interest). Where I first came across this remains a mystery but all I can say is thank you Shazam. I really love the beat in this, very much in the same vein as 'I'm An Albatraoz' which was a #1 here. Combining two of my biggest interests in football and dance music was a near surefire way of gaining my approval and it did not disappoint at all.

66. Major Lazer & DJ Snake (feat. MØ) - Lean On

Total points: 217

Chart run: 10-14-8-10-18-21-29-29-36-28-33-39

The song that has been everywhere this year finds its way at #66 on this chart. A really well crafted track combining Major Lazer & DJ Snake's production talents and topping it with a very effective vocal from the then relatively unknown MØ (of which I'm yet to hear a radio DJ correctly pronounce). It had been coming that a track of this sound would take off and good grief didn't it just! A streaming behemoth all year that still finds itself in the official top 40 eight months after its release. I was loving just as much as the rest of the population for a good few months but the sheer overplay did (only slightly) tarnish it as it would with any track to be fair. However, I am all for those tracks which seem to never ever go away to be like this rather than the endless conveyor belt of dull, depressing ballads which tend to dominate that particular field.

Hey again Dobbo :D

Really liking 'Black Magic' and 'Lean On' out of the recent lot. The video for the former is one of my favourites of the year <3 Casually ignoring the fact that 'Hey QT' is here :puke:..

Hi Dobbo

Glad to see Lean On making an appearance, shame it isn't higher. One track that just never got old despite beign around for so long, that middle 8 drop thing is one of the best things I've heard in my life and still sounded refreshing six months in

Shame Black Magic isn't higher too but glad to see you gave it a lovely long run. I was like you where I can give or take but I've had a massive turn into stanning for them recently, love how they're showing off their personalities more, their performing on live TV all the time with fun choreography, the videos are so rewatchable and most importantly, the pop tunes are banging. So much fun and catchiness from track 1 on the album

Love Too Deep is a real jam too, shame it never became a hit really, love the repetitiveness to it so the hook really gets jammed in your head, smooth production too, shame dance tracks never really get good videos :/

Black Magic & Lean On. Overplay kinda tarnished both for me a little bit though, especially with Lean On.

yay for 'Lean On', one of my big tuunes of the year.

you already know what I think about 'Black Magic' though :puke:

Black Magic for me will probably become a classic, and Lean is around the same area (actually, a bit lower) on my EOY.

Lean On :music:

Sun Goes Down :cheer:

Love Too Deep

Black Magic :D

Going great so far :w00t:

Lean On is pretty good! It seems almost universally loved which is very impressive. Black Magic is very good too

I imagine they'll be at top of quite a few people's :D

Yeah it does have a good vid, definitely their best to date. Not a fan of QT? That's too bad :P

I did get bored of it eventually but since actively not playing it I can enjoy again as it's still very much out there and about. It was an incredible break for Major Lazer & Mo!

Little Mix are definitely great performers, even better than a lot of "non-manufactured" acts for that matter. They still kinda all roll into one for me as individuals mind but I don't really follow them outside their music. Have still yet to hear the album in full!

Completely agree more on Love Too Deep. Lost out to streaming for a top 40 spot unfortunately but it's a little treasure that not many friends of mine know about which I quite like sometimes :)

Yeah very much the same with me. Hope there's a lot more songs from them to come!

Black Magic is incredible, such a fun and fantastic pop song

Is one of the best pop tracks of the year. Was most happy with the weeks at #1.

yay for 'Lean On', one of my big tuunes of the year.

Very much a favourite of many posters. Probably be on a lot of EOY lists I'm thinking.

I can't remember actually, you said it eventually grew on you iirc? :P

Black Magic for me will probably become a classic, and Lean is around the same area (actually, a bit lower) on my EOY.

Lean On will probably be looked back on more fondly but Black Magic was a real game changer for Little Mix. They could have fizzled out this era but it really helped them step up even further.

Major Lazer and Black Magic both pretty good  :cheer:

All very good tracks there! Love Too Deep my personal highlight :D

Agreed it is very impressive, don't think many bad words were said about it all year. Certainly the Reshuffle #1 this year I'd expect?

Thanks again all!

65. Charli XCX - London Queen

Total points: 219

Chart run: 22-30-30-19-9-10-10-13-22-32-37-39

Charli XCX is an artist I've bought into since the You (Ha Ha Ha) days so it was great to see her get her big breakthrough a couple of years back. Whilst her most recent output isn't as good as her True Romance era on the whole, last album Sucker had a good few gems on it. Aside from one of the best pop songs in recent years in 'Boom Clap' most of Sucker rolled into one for me upon first hearing. Then a certain earworm entitled London Queen popped up and I was instantly hooked. Charting right back at the start of my top 40 postings this managed three weeks in the top 10 and a somewhat parabolic chart run.

64. Digital Farm Animals - True

Total points: 222

Chart run: 31-21-16-19-21-17-25-24-24-37-27-33-28-29

The eccentrically titled Digital Farm Animals got his break featuring on Netsky's Rio earlier this year. That song pretty much passed by me but his debut release in his own right 'True' ticked many boxes. A really lovely laidback house track with two complementing vocal loops made this a very repeatable listen throughout the latter part of 2015. Despite only managing a peak of #16, one of the lowest in the entire countdown, it racked up three and a half months within the top 40, alluding to its sheer inability of losing its initial charm.

63. Faul - Something New

Total points: 223

Chart run: 13-15-14-14-18-15-20-23-26-29

French DJ Faul, who along with fellow musician Wad Ad was responsible for the UK #3 hit Changes, went alone with this release, a song I personally find far superior. Just a superb chillout song with a wobbling synth, perfect for any lazy day be it at the beach or on the bus. The vocals were subject to an understandably mixed reaction but I find they suit the characteristics of the song flawlessly. Another track to begin its chart life at the end of 2014, it managed 7 weeks in the top 20 and a very soft regression thereafter.

62. Basto - Hold You

Total points: 225

Chart run: 10-10-8-10-12-16-24-18-38-39

The house domination continues at #62 with Basto's 'Hold You'. This was very much an instant one, a steady vocal build up followed by a beautiful instrumental very reminiscent of early Avicii which explains the strong approval. Of course, the Belgian DJ has been putting out tracks long before our Swedish hero and forms one third of the current line up of Lasgo. He also produced Azealia Banks' '212' under the moniker Lazy Jay which may be a little known fact! Hold You was a perfect song for the summer, as made evident by the rather sultry video accompanied, iin fact it makes me long for a summer holiday right now.

61. Pia Mia (feat. Chris Brown & Tyga) - Do It Again

Total points: 225

Chart run: 29-11-11-7-11-14-22-25-34-37-31-38-38

One of the biggest R&B breakthroughs of the year came courtesy of Guamanian teenager Pia Mia. Sampling reggae act J Boog's 'Let's Do It Again', this reworking brought in some synth, bass and a dream team of Chris Brown & Tyga to produce an infectious piece which was all over radios in the summer. I love the energy in this song and both Breezy & Tyga's raps work well spaced throughout. Tyga's rap in particular demands the listener's attention before Pia takes over and brings the track to life. I had a feeling this would be one of the many "big-in-America" only type songs so to see it take off in the UK was most pleasing. It only managed the one week top ten here but had three just outside and spent a quarter of the year within the top 40.
