Alongside the Chelsea collapse, the story of the season so far has undoubtedly been Leicester City. One of the favourites for relegation before a ball was kicked, they've shocked everybody by being league leaders at Christmas with only one league defeat this season. Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez have been the standout players and Claudio Ranieri has been a revelation.

Where will they end the season? Logic suggests they won't be champions, but who knows? They shouldn't collapse to the bottom half, but there is historical precedent for that and a couple of injuries could gut their team. Champions League would be remarkable, even Europa League an achievement.

What does everybody think?

Not being the avid footy fan many of you others are, I think Leicester has just a good a shot as any other team in the top half of the table, at this stage, to finish on top of the table come the end of the season. That said, I think they'll inevitably finish second come May. Who knows what'll happen between now and May, but one can hope they'll keep their heads above water from January onwards, and avoid any major player injuries....
I've gone for 6th, I think they will eventually start to struggle and Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal and Tottenham will probably finish above. And then either Liverpool or Chelsea will recover enough as well to take a top 5 spot - or maybe both of them will, but Tottenham miss out. But yeah 6th or 7th for me, but I'll go for the former!
4th place for me. Saying that, an injury to Mahrez or Vardy will lose them 7-9 points so could be 5/6th. I can't see them finishing any lower than Top 7.

My heart says 1st, but my head says 4th-6th.

I've gone for 4th, though, as as long as Mahrez and Vardy stay fit they still have a decent chance of picking up regular results against the bottom-half sides, and I expect them to at least buy one attacking player in the transfer window to strengthen their squad - although I can't see them picking up points against the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, Man City etc., as their defence has been naff at times..

But anywhere in the top 7 is a fantastic finish for a club like Leicester.

Like /mdh/32/ said. My heart says 1st place.

I think their form will probably dip similar to Aston Villa in 1998/99 season and finish 6th.

Gonna go out there on a limb and say a narrow 2nd place. Which would be such a thrill.
It would be amazing if they can somehow keep it going as while being one of our rivals it gives me hope that one day, not necessarily too far away, Derby could emulate what Leicester are doing! (I can dream, but at least Leicester are showing there is a very slim chance now to spring such a surprise!)

They are providing me Aston Villa teas.

I'm guessing 5th / 6th.

My guess is that they will finish 5th. Possibly 6th if Liverpool can get above them which doesn't look likely at the moment, especially if they beat Liverpool on Boxing Day.

If Man Utd don't win the league then I would be all for Leicester winning it, objectively speaking it would be the greatest moment in Premier League history and the biggest turn around in fortunes ever in the Premier League.

We've got to remember to bump this thread on 15th May to see how many people were spot on with their prediction!
Going for 3rd, this isn't like a usual annual "overachiever" like Southampton last year or when Hull first came up, this has gone on for too long to be that. They are the real deal. Only thing preventing the title is squad depth.

So as far as I can remember, last night Leicester abandoned their 4-4-2 and went for a more conservative 4-3-3.

I wonder if they will keep on doing this?

It seemed to work. It hasn't particularly changed their attacking prowess or tactical setup so maybe this is just to give them a bit more support out wide?

It was still a great performance from them last night.

(one point from 6, poor form tut tut )

The game against Liverpool showed that against the bigger teams, they can get out-done in midfield, so was clever to play for the point instead of gambling on a win. I thought they were solid if unspectacular last night. Vardy looked shot to pieces mind.

  • 3 weeks later...

Massive game against Villa.

If they win then I think they will at least finish 5th this season.

I think regardless of injuries they're too good to drop any further than out of top 6 contention. As things stand I genuinely believe they'll get top four (gone with fourth). Teams around them don't seem to fancy the league this year and they're conning absolutely everybody right now.
