I agree. People say the plot for The Phantom Menace is too complicated but it's actually pretty straightforward. People yawn at Trade Negotiations but that's background stuff, you never have to sit through any of it. The one criticism of the prequels I think is definitely valid is that the love story is pretty crap. However a lot of the characters problems in that trilogy are solved by the Clone Wars TV series that acts as a chance to explore everything there just wasn't enough time to in 7 and a bit hours of film.

What do you mean by "You don't have to sit through it"? If we're rating the films, surely that includes those scenes too? :P

The politics/Trade Negotiations don't make for the most thrilling of movie moments but the films around them are quite action packed and enjoyable nonetheless. The love scenes however are unforgivable.. As is Jar Jar Binks. Never has a character single-handedly ruined a scene in such a way as he does whenever he arrives. I find him insufferable and can usually warm to fringe characters such as him but the fact I can barely understand a word he says, ugh. :(

One thing I'd add to my Episode I loving, as well as the Duel Of The Fates/Qui-Gon/breather plot stuff is that I adore the fan theory that Jar Jar was originally intended to be an evil Sith lord masquerading as a fool but they didn't go through with it for II and III. (further reason why he's the best character ever (not really (but I may have put him on my top 20 character list))))

I meant how much of the trade negotiations do actually see? It's pretty much all offscreen and senate meetings are extremely short in comparison to the action. The plot is basically the liberation of an invaded planet, trade negotiations is purely background info and actually helps explain the climate of the galaxy which I'd say is one of the few things the Force Awakens failed to do well.

Any more of these? I'd like to get it to 20 if possible.

I'm watching 'Revenge Of The Sith' tonight, so will be able to add my score in for that later. :D

I know these look ridiculously high but I'm a HUGE fan. This isn't an all time rating since I'd find it impossible. My favourites rotate depending which one I'm in the mood for at the time so this is just how I feel at this moment in time.

 

Not sure if I'm too late but here goes :)

 

07 The Phantom Menace - has grown on me over time and the final 3 way light saber duel one of the best Star Wars moment over the entire series.

 

05 Attack of the Clones - My least watched but a few decent moments

 

08 Revenge of the Sith - Best of the Prequels, I just feel Episodes 2 and 3 would have been better had they got someone who can act to play Anakin!

 

10 A New Hope - Can still watch this over and over and over (pretty much the same for all the original trilogy)

 

11 The Empire Strikes Back (I'm not one for giving 11 but it is so perfect and I have separate it somehow)

 

10 Return of the Jedi - Love it and underrated I think.

 

09 The Force Awakens - Loved it the opening sequence was fantastic and the movie overall moved at a fantastic pace. Great fun :) I have only seen it once so it might get a 10 once I have and I love the characters more :)
