With the video out for JT now hopefully it should help him to no1 on friday and possibly maintain the top spot for more than one default style week!
Shame to see RnB falling already considering how well they're doing on iTunes. Really, really surprised not to see an appearance from Adele yet - I thought streamers would be thrilled to have more of 25 on Spotify.

Do casual Spotify users even know Adele's new single is on Spotify though? I didn't until I read your comment anyway.
I guess people don't know it's out on Spotify, the label needs to make an ad, otherwise people won't realise it's there...
i expect adele's track will be featured prominently on the 'new music friday' playlist this week~

It's shocking to me that days can pass without a new entry or even re-entry to the top 200, are streamers really that regimented in their listening habits that they need to keep playing the same small pool of tracks ad nauseum all week long (with almost exactly the same figures for each song each day too, implying that people are not only doing this but seem to surprisingly never get bored of playing these same old songs day in day out for months on end).

I can't imagine anything worse than having such little variety but then I guess it reflects the playlists of the likes of Capital and Heart.

That's not really how it works. The top 200 remaining the same does not in any way imply that people are only listening to a small selection of songs all week long (although I'm sure for some listeners that does happen).

To me the lack of movement or new/re-entries does suggest that most people are picking from this quite small selection of tracks to listen to on the whole (not denying that every now and then people might listen to an oldie or an album too), otherwise you'd have 10/20 new entries or re-entries a day. I just can't fathom how even songs that must be at 201-220 don't move in and out and swap with some of the songs in the 181-200 section more often. You'd think there'd be more fluidity down at that section of the chart when only a few hundred plays can separate 20 positions.

It seems so stunted for example that Sia's Elastic Heart has reliably racked up around 25,000-30,000 streams every day for the past few weeks down at the lower end of the top 200. I know it's not technically the exact same people listening to it each day, but it's amazing how consistent these songs all remain in terms of both position and plays each day. Presumably a lot people save popular tracks on their own playlists and just repeat them daily.

Wonder if Kungs will have a massive impact in tomorrow's update. Drake & Rihanna in the top 5 with a song which isn't an official single. It's like "Take Care" all over again

Hmm. I understand your thinking but like, it still doesn't imply 180-200 should periodically swap with 200-220. You have to remember that the number of plays each day is essentially an average, with a VERY large sample size. It isn't based on chance. Even though # of plays at that level are fairly close, there is no reason a track at #205 would jump up to #190 and then down again without some justifying factor for the jump. Essentially consumption of listening is going to be relatively smooth. It's all down to the large sample size.

New peaks:

3 (+1). Drake (feat. Rihanna) - Too Good

11 (+1). Drake - Controlla

15 (+1). Cheat Codes - Sex

20 (+1). gnash (feat. olivia o'brien) - i hate u, i love u

31 (+1). The Chainsmokers (feat. Daya) - Don't Let Me Down

39 (+2). Drake - With You

52 (+1). Drake - Feel No Ways

53 (+1). Drake - Grammys

54 (+3). OneRepublic - Wherever I Go

68 (+118). Ghosttown DJ's - My Boo (Hitman's Club Mix)

86 (+19). David Guetta (feat. Zara Larsson) - This One's For You

91 (+7). MK - Piece Of Me

96 (+26). Kungs vs Cookin On 3 Burners - This Girl

150 (+11). Reggie n Bollie - New Girl

Ghosttown DJ's new peak is due to Throwback Thursday rather than the song getting genuinely more popular.

In a sense there is a random chance because the days a lot of people choose to listen to the tracks are, for these purposes random. It's just that as you say, the sample is very large so it's difficult to break away from that average. Like, flipping a coin 10 times and getting no more than 4 heads is feasible and will happen 37% of the time, but flipping a coin 1000 times and getting no more than 400 heads is roughly a million to one chance.

62 NEW Craig David - One More Time

66 NEW Sigma feat Take That - Cry :yahoo:

76 +20 Kungs & Cookin' On 3 Burners - This Girl :cheer:

197 -47 Reggie N Bollie - New Girl :(

lol Sigma/TT in at #60-ish yesterday but out of the top 200 today, big drop from Craig David's One More Time too
I don't use Spotify but I'd guess that a lot of people just listen to the pre-prepared playlists rather than choosing songs to listen to. I can't think of any other explanation why a record like "If I Were Sorry" had been so consistent over the last couple of months.
