Posted January 12, 20169 yr Welcome to Round 22 of Least Fave Disney Animated Classic and bowing out in 13th place is "Mulan" with a whopping 13 votes, which makes this the 6th from the Renaissance era to drop out, leaving 4 left in the running. This was the 36th Disney animated feature and released in 1998, after development for it began in 1994 and became a critical and commercial success, grossing $304 Million worldwide, making more than the previous 2 "THOND" & "Hercules". Disney feature animation developed an interest in Asian-themed legends beginning with the optioning several books by children's book author Robert D. San Souci who had a consulting relationship with Disney executive Jay Dyer. Around that same time, a short straight-to-video film titled "China Doll" about an oppressed and miserable Chinese girl who is whisked away by a British Prince Charming to happiness in the West was in development. Thomas Schumacher asked Souci if he had any additional stories, in which Souci turned in a manuscript of a book based on the Chinese poem "The Song of Fa Mu Lan". Ultimately, Disney decided to combine the two separate projects. Of note the soundtrack introduced Christina Aguilera onto the world for the first time , singing a cover of "Reflection" which is sung by Mulan in the movie itself. While most people think that "Genie In A Bottle" was her first hit, it wasn't and despite the song failing to dent the top 100, this would only be a starting point for her as there were bigger things for her in the following year. As for the other results only 3 Disney movies didn't get votes in the last round, while "Bambi" and "Sleeping Beauty" both scored 5 votes each (their most yet), and "Lady and the Tramp" and "The Jungle Book" both scored 2 votes each. Surprisingly "Pinocchio" scores a vote for the first time since round 3 and finally "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin" & "The Lion King" each scores 1 vote each. 13th Mulan = 13 Votes http://www.oocities.org/h0wenya0/mulan/mulan1.jpg Another Disney movie, that I've always liked and funnily enough another I saw in the cinema, along with (Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Pocahontas & The Rescuers Down Under), and this was the last one. Watching it again after many years, also made me love it even more and really see the beauty within it. The entire premise is also very interesting and always nice to see Disney tackling something far different than before and handled so beautifully as well. Mulan herself is a really strong and interesting lead, while at the same time, she's so inspiring and very real. I also forgot that Eddie Murphy was in this, obviously trying to capture the same magic Robin Williams did with the Genie, but not pulled off quite effectively here, but he does a decent job and he would voice another character in another animated movie franchise much more memorably. The music in this is just wonderful with the songs "Reflection" and "I'll Make A Man Out Of You" are both wonderful and blends in perfectly with the style of animation and story. So on the whole "Mulan" is a definite highlight of the Disney era and deserves more praise and should be more remembered amongst the other Disney classics. Right now then there are just 12 movies left, and for this round it's gonna be a double elimination, so use your vote wisely by the next round which will be on 16th January 2016. January 12, 20169 yr I enjoy Lady and The Tramp marginally more than Bambi, so going for Bambi at this stage.
January 12, 20169 yr You guys are racists and misogynists. Lion King - might as well, you've taken the joy out of this poll.
January 12, 20169 yr I can't deal with the fact Mulan missed the top 10. My favourite Disney Classic! Going to go with Pinocchio
January 12, 20169 yr Aladdin for me now. Can we actually not at The Lion King being nearly out??? :drama: :drama: :drama:
January 12, 20169 yr ^^^^ Blame Cody for trying to get revenge on us for voting the right song out Beauty and The Beast
January 14, 20169 yr Beauty and the Beast is the worst on that list by a long, long way. UMMMMMMMMMM no. Can't believe I'm the only one to vote for Alice in Wonderland. Bambi at risk?! You monsters.
January 14, 20169 yr Alice is Wonderland is the only adaptation of the text that feels like it captures the essence somewhat, I feel like it's actually gotten better in time. People voting Beauty and the Beast...ew
January 14, 20169 yr UMMMMMMMMMM no. Can't believe I'm the only one to vote for Alice in Wonderland. Bambi at risk?! You monsters. UMMMMMMMMM yes. I can't believe anyone could vote for anything from the Walt Disney / Nine Old Men era before the (admittedly much better than late 70s / 80s) 90s revival. But that's just me.
January 14, 20169 yr Author The next round will be coming tomorrow, instead of the 16th, thanks for all your votes so far guys. Looks like "LATT" and "Bambi" have got the highest votes so far. Remember this is gonna be a double elimination, and then it will be down to the final 10.
