February 25, 20169 yr 21 deserved it. Adele needed to win best video as that One Direction one is lol. Why do they always have to win at the Brits, even made up awards?? Simon Cowell deal? Spice Girls disn't win best group ever?? Also Rihanna's twerking is allll over the papers. I was right that Adele's sales will reach 3 million to 3.2 total. No huge hype from performances.
February 25, 20169 yr 21 deserved it. And yet every publication that year had Let England Shake as their album of the year. It was the most unanimous album of any year I remember - even more than OK Computer in 1997.
February 25, 20169 yr So basically: sales = awards? The BRITS is a joke. Ever since Robbie Williams beat Craig David/David Gray in 2001 it's been obvious it has been about sales levels and viewing figures. Is it too much to as that we have some awards based on critical acclaim/innovation? There's only one Mercury prize each year - we need an award show based on a similar premise. Adele beating PJ Harvey in 2012 to best album was a complete farce. They didn't have the balls to go against 3 millions sales of 21. Shame. Bjork winning best Int Female was a surprise. What about Catfish & The Bottlemen beating the sales juggernauts of Jess Glynne and Years & Years in "British Breakthrough"? I think all the winners were pretty much accurate or fair, this year. I'd argue with British Group but I've done that already, when Little Mix got snubbed. But Coldplay were always gonna win this year imo. Aren't they splitting up? Also Lee, I don't think it's fair how you keep bringing up Little Mix using backing track to the chorus just to try and prove a point? All the major stars do it when they have such vigorous routines to do (a lot of them don't even do a routine!) If anything, knowing how much the girls worked hard for this performance really put into perspective just how much harder girl bands have to work to get noticed! Coz I don't think I've seen a commercial pop act do a performance quite as big as this since either *NSync or Backstreet Boys. It's crazy just how underrated Little Mix are as performers, still. :(

You make it sound like the "Brit Awards" is one silly person (or a small group of people) deciding on the winners. As far as I know, the voting panel is "made up of more than 1,000 music people, everyone from managers to journalists and record labels to last year's winners." So the winners are not perfect but at least they're the results of a quite large voting panel. So yeah it seems more people are inclined to vote for hugely successful artists like Adele. "The Brits" are not to blame for the winners, but the whole panel is. And to be honest, next to Adele's domination, there are also been some exciting/surprising wins like Björk, Cartfish and the bottlemen and Tame Impala. So all in, all out, the results are quite balanced. Edited February 25, 20169 yr by Hayzayy
February 25, 20169 yr They really should dispense with public voted awards - or try to see that boy bands are not nominated. But then, either premium number voting or gaining a top trend on Twitter makes it lucrative for them. Stupid though, there was no doubt whatsoever that One Direction would win that...again. Mystified as to why Catfish and the Bottlemen won but good to see Bjork bring some quality to the winners.
February 25, 20169 yr Mystified as to why Catfish and the Bottlemen won but good to see Bjork bring some quality to the winners. I did think it was quite the shock. I have only heard the singles so can't really comment on the quality of their music over all. But I was certain that it was a Jess Glynne/James Bay/Y&Y battle, they didn't even come to mind. I know sales aren't everything but it did make me giggle after their shock when that the announcer was like 'Catfish and the Bottlemen went to #10 and their album is now Gold', considering the allocates that JG, JB and Y&Y have.
February 25, 20169 yr And yet every publication that year had Let England Shake as their album of the year. It was the most unanimous album of any year I remember - even more than OK Computer in 1997. Yeah pretentious critics don't speak for everyone and the public spoke for Adele.
February 25, 20169 yr - Glad to see Bjork win international female (her first ever award I think?), and not Meghan Trainor! Didn't she win something (presumably the same award) in the late 90s? I only remember her saying something about being a 'grateful grapefruit' in an acceptance speech

Sales does play a huge part? The system is frustrating as Carly had one of the most acclaimed albums of 2014 and maybe had the album sold better she would have got a nomination? What about Catfish & The Bottlemen beating the sales juggernauts of Jess Glynne and Years & Years in "British Breakthrough"? I think all the winners were pretty much accurate or fair, this year. It's crazy just how underrated Little Mix are as performers, still. :( I've mentioned it twice, less than y"all rambling on about Little Mix not being nominated, just appreciate that they managed to get two nominations and a performance (what is beyond overrated on here) I can see why they never got nominated but I'm sure their next album will bring them even more Brits success.
February 25, 20169 yr Yup, Little Mix are overrated on here and you can't release cheesy 90s pop now and expect a Brit, no matter how much backing vocals and flashy empty performances they do.
February 25, 20169 yr I cant understand that yet again Olly Murs was not even nominated for best male. The Brit academy continue to snub him.
February 25, 20169 yr I cant understand that yet again Olly Murs was not even nominated for best male. The Brit academy continue to snub him. I think it's because his era would have counted for last year, I don't think you can get nominated for re-releases?
February 25, 20169 yr Yeah pretentious critics don't speak for everyone and the public spoke for Adele. Why are critics automatically pretentious? And of course they don't speak for everyone. Why would they need to? These are awards that signify the best of what Britain has to offer - or are supposed to. But who cares, as long as there's money to be made. Since when did the public know about the quality of music being released? They just buy what they're fed.
February 25, 20169 yr Didn't she win something (presumably the same award) in the late 90s? I only remember her saying something about being a 'grateful grapefruit' in an acceptance speech  She won more than once in the 1990s.

February 25, 20169 yr Coldplay could I wouldn't call Coldplay's music cheesy 90s pop really! Also, quadruple post? You coming for that Poster's chart #1 this week Colm :D ! In regards to the Radio 1 listeners thing for the Breakthrough, Radio 1 took ownership of it, but anyone could vote. You just had to visit the website to vote, or see a tweet from The Brits/ one of the artists.
