I wouldn't void it but I would say to add the scores in for some of the others if you get the chance at some point. I did say in the OP to rate as many or as few as possible because I was aware that the sheer number of scores might have scared some people away :(

I get what you're saying, but it's difficult for me to compare the rating of songs I've just heard with the rating of songs I'm already familiar with beforehand.

I personally would not bother join a Taylor Swift rate because I am not familiar with the material except for shake it off !!

The number of songs won't scare anyone off ! It's better that votes are valid rather than worthless .

I did the songs that most people give a shit about, there's nothing funny about not hearing Like A Virgin as I've never heard it have a lot of recurrent airplay like Material Girl and Like A Prayer and it's not my fault an artist has released a lot of forgettable stuff.

If only people here were more positive in their appraisal of others' posts :(

lmao you expect a song from 1984 to be on recurrent airplay still? You not hearing it =/= forgettable to the masses

Erm... yes, as quite a few songs from the same year have recurrent airplay. Frankie Goes To Holywood's Relax is one. The example I gave of Material Girl is only a year

afterwards.

Do you really expect 18 year olds to know many songs from 1984?

I really don't care about how many times you have heard it, to suggest that Like A Virgin, one of the most iconic songs of the 80s is forgettable is frankly ludicrous. Whether you like it or not, that's undeniable surely???

...and I would expect an 18 year old commenting in a Madonna forum to have heard it yes :P

You don't hear Like a Virgin anywhere these days - I can barely recall hearing it anywhere outside of that moment on Birds of a Feather in my lifetime either. And sadly that's about twice as long as his!

Why is Griff's rate causing such a commotion? ( :D ) - I don't necessarily agree with all of his scores but it seems pretty consistent and I can see why the low scoring ones wouldn't appeal to people who don't have memories attached to them as the production hasn't necessarily aged as well over the years.

I don't think it's forgettable. I've never heard it. I can see how you inferred that from my generalizing of the ??s, but I just said there's nothing funny about hearing it. Using the ' ' face for not knowing a song comes across as patronising.

tbh if Griff goes out of his way to hear it then I suspect all you will get in return is another low scorer! - it totally fits the mould of the type of tracks that he's not rated highly.

I explicitly said it was only La Isla Bonita I disagreed with and it was a generous rate compared to what I thought it would be and that I would include it as I said in the OP that you could rate as many or as few tracks. Didn't cause a commotion for me, except for the comment that Like A Virgin was forgettable (which he has since retracted because he hasn't even heard it).

Very true. I value production more than any other aspect, and these songs don't have great production values to these ears. Also I get that stuff like La Isla Bonita and Vogue are iconic, but they're just not to my musical tastes.

May as well actually do this while I'm visiting these parts. :D

As usual with my rates on this site, I am actively trying to separate the songs out as I simply don't see the point in dishing out a rate of almost universal praise or hatred... so what we essentially have is the absolute dross getting 00s/-1s, the iconic classics getting 11s/10s and everything else in it's relative position between the two poles if I had to rank them up. Generally speaking, anything 7 or above is something that is good enough for me to actively want to play.

Personally, I don't really think adding a rate for about 30% of it (in any artist's rate) adds much of a valuable contribution. If more of the blanks were filled in at a later date, then maybe I'd be able to see it as reasonable.
Deciding to use this as an opportunity to re-listen to a lot of Madonna's back catalogue  Listened to twenty last night and will probably rate this weekend

That's what I thought too! I've not had a Madonna binge in a while (been turning my attention towards Kylie again - Body Language shooting up my affections!) so I'll be looking forward to revisiting and re-loving Madonna's back catalogue!

!! What is going on with Hung Up? Coming to barely scrape the top 30 at this rate  It's getting an 11 from me for sure..

It would naturally be an 11 from me anyway but this gives me even more reason to!

I worked out that Griff voted for 42 out 78 songs which works out as 54%. Over half seems acceptable to me given he appears to only be a casual fan and, asides, 'Like a Virgin', has voted for all the songs you'd kinda expect a casual fan to know.

That said, it would be appreciated if more of the blanks could be filled, although I understand the point of it not being fair to rate songs you've just heard against songs you know and have had time to settle with you.
