Large amounts of cheer.gif's tonight in Medhelnia! We qualified, turns out all of my tedious and incredibly irritating moaning paid off :cheer: Thanks to Aeroche for impeccable as expected hosting and lets hope the final brings us similar hosting skills and more importantly a similarly successful result! Now I can stop complaining/worrying/nagging people for odds for a little while as I'm not too fussed about the final results :D

So, placed in SEMI 2, we had some STUNNING tunes in our pool - Brechtoria, getting an emphatic first time qualification with a similarly blissful indie track to ours, and Triangledonia who unfortunately DNQ'd again which is totally not fair etc. Next time for sure we shall see some Spinning in the final! 🔼🔼

Kylienips BROUGHT IT to this semi and deservedly qualified to my glee, and I shan't give too much else away that could potentially hint towards what my points are/will be for qualifiers but Pupok also rightfully qualified with one of my guilty pleasures of the year - ironically I've liked it for a while now (it's like Wifi Wifey which was once a potential of mine, some cringeworthy bad pop that is fantastic for those reasons *.*)

ANYWAY - how do our points look? I didn't get round to a semi 1 point chart however I have some faves, most of which qualified (yay) which was nice to see. Oh, and #MedheLupus SLAYING with that Random.org relevance!!! Totally ready for that # to take over the final. Stop going off topic mdh ~~

12 / QUALIFIED / 8

10 / QUALIFIED / 7.7

8 / QUALIFIED / 7.6

7 / QUALIFIED / 7.4

6 / TRIANGLEDONIA -- TAI & Son Of 8 'In & Out' -- لعب 7.2

5 / QUALIFIED / 7.1

4 / QUALIFIED / 7

3 / 17 Aelandor -- Said The Sky (feat. Missio) 'Nostalgia' لعب 6.8

2 / QUALIFIED / 6.8

1 / 9 Singerpurear -- Ezra Furman 'Restless Year' --لعب 6.6

..so that's how our votes look, unfortunately a really good chilled (~tune~) from Popchartfreak/John/Singerpurear DNQ'd to our sadness, and obviously as said earlier in the bulletin Triangledonia did so too. Also Aelandor! This was a HUGE TUNE - I was convinced it would do well in the semi as it sounded like something that would stereotypically do well. Hmm.

SO, onward (and hopefully upwards figuratively and as a phrase) for Medhelnia! P.O.L live to fight another day and I just hope the people of Semi 1 are receiving the /electric/ vibes as much as enough people in Semi 2 and myself did. #MedheLupus.

YAAAAAAAS

(Enlighten me: what is "Wi-fi Wifey"?)

Thanks guys ^_^

Oh my, here it is because I can't even explain it ~

It's basically this YouTuber's attempt at a song about social media but IT'S SO INFECTIOUS albeit awful at the same time, but the lyrics are really clever//

Thanks for your support!! So happy you're through!

Parade of Lights - Feeling Electric

FINISHED ~ 2nd / POINTS ~ 303

For some unbelievable reason - we finished second :cheer: Really happy with the result - all my moaning obviously did the trick (not as though I'm gonna do it again :P) and Medhelnia propped up some worthy winners in Beaverdonia! Thanks to all the people that voted for us, I really appreciate it as it was originally just a little Indie number I entered on a whim with some kinda hesitant optimism. I really didn't expect to end up in 2nd place, especially ahead of so many really high quality songs by more established nations. Great :D

So, this contest was fantastic! Lots of high quality songs and a huge improvement of BJSC 84 which, if I'm honest, didn't see too many jams or did it see much success for us (cough cough last place). The likes of FKA Pi really impressed, with a kind of song that I wouldn't usually go anyway near - but the epileptic-fit-inducing jam gained a really worthy 18 from us, they would have finished seventh had they have voted. Tut tut Pav >_>.

ALSO - Hendinia!! Oh my, this was fab. At first I really thought this was going to win and although i questioned whether it should have got a veto, It was definetly a GOOD decision by the mods to not veto it :heehee:. That got my 15. Think of it as a bit of a mix between Faded with a couple of Rachel K Collier meets Zara Larsson vocals thrown in for good measure. Altogether, it makes for HEAVENLY listening and I hope it'll be a hit here.

Pupok really brought it to 85, with a quirky teen anthem that clicked with me for all the right reasons - once again this was not something I would usually like, in fact when i saw what genre it was and what people were saying about it I nearly didn't bother listening to it. Turns out I had liked it a bit in the past. JAM. A guilty pleasure.

This contest saw the debut of Brechtoria - I DIDN'T KNOW I NEEDED THAT SONG (Tigertown - Lonely Cities) IN MY LIFE - but god I did! Medhelnia and Brechtoria are now partners/twinned with each other. Probably. That song got a lot of points and rightly so. It was a good result for them and the only way is up, hopefully BJSC 86 brings another really good result for Brechtoria because they totally deserve it. Bradders is such a nice guy with an on point music taste. The full package for a nation.

Spadam, oh Spadam :( Unfortunately he DNQ'ued again. Hopefully he can end that streak in the next contest though, as I said, the only way is up !!!!! :heehee: I was really sure TAI would be a certain qualifier - in fact I had envisaged the song to do considerably better than mine.

Aeroche BROUGHT IT as per with the Oshi redo of Ridin' Round - this got big points from myself and rightly got a really respectable final placing, as per. As I said a little while back in the final thread, Aeroche have well and truly NAILED the concept of BJSC, I don't remember a bad entry from them. Ever. Hopefully that never changes as it seems that their music taste has quite the overlap with mine, which is good. Always good to have a country that you consistently like, especially to their extent.

Oh, and #MedheLupus slayed the competition - so much good vibes coming from Cody for my song and I bounced them back for his - thanks for supporting it bro <3

Ooh. That reminds me. Danaelanda :( Make Your Move was great, in fact I was surprised to see him send it in the first place but as I kept listening to it I grew more and more confident it would end Danaelanda's streak of high top 30's and get a top 20 position for the first time since Monody. Unfortunately that was not the case in '85. Make Your Move by Croatia Squad finished a lot lower than I anticipated it to and although I'm still glad it managed to qualify for the final (which is an achievement in itself in my humble eyes), it did slightly upset me that it didn't finish higher.

I should stop blabbing. Here are my points and full rankings~

18 ~ 26 FKA n // LUH // $ORO لعب ~ 9.4

Those are the points! Some great songs and a very high average point rate.

Here are the commiserations, and there were quite a few that I wanted to point. That Jess Kent song would have been my 13 more than likely, had the deadline been now. Really has been a grower from being one of my least favourites to BAM, being one of my favourites as the goodness of the song just unanticipatedly exploded in my ears. Onward.

40 Cadelica // Jess Kent // Get Down لعب ~ 7.6

06 Seyetana // trippple nippples // LSD لعب ~ 7.4

03 Danaelanda // Croatia Squad & Lika Morgan // Make Your Move لعب ~ 7.3

34 Ethanola // Billie Black // I Waited For You لعب ~ 7.3

14 Beaverdonia // Bang La Decks // Aide لعب ~ 7

37 FARC // JONES // Hoops لعب ~ 7

These are the commiserations. Oh, and well done Michael! I look forward to BJSC 86 and totally don't dread what's to come. :P

Here are the rest with ratings, there were a few that were a tad crap however on the whole the final was incredibly above average, to my surprise. At first glance I didn't like too many of the songs however I found with time, there were SO MANY growers that deserved to do better in my rankings and in the overall standings. Onward.

33 Altyr Muunilinst // Youngr // Out Of My System لعب ~ 6.9

05 Taahino // Beautiful Bodies // Capture & Release لعب ~ 6.6

17 Hushkanukia // Kristina Si - Kosmos لعب ~ 6.6

15 Yehesi // Nightcall (ft. Dreamhour) // Dead V (Vocal Version) لعب ~ 6.4

10 Trifoski // Lemon Demon // Touch-Tone Telephone لعب ~ 6

13 Jadakissina // OVERWERK // Toccata لعب ~ 5.8

32 Tartford // Cigarettes After Sex // Keep On Loving You لعب ~ 5.7

12 Summericia // Invader Girl // Stuck On You لعب ~ 5.5

09 Syndare // Kwamie Liv // Higher لعب ~ 5.3

16 Botanikka // LP // Lost On You لعب ~ 5.2

04 New Lexico // Celtic Woman (ft. Oonagh) // Tír na nÓg لعب ~ 4.6

28 Terra Avium // Dehli 2 Dublin // Apples لعب ~ 2.1

So there we go! A great competition and of course I'm delighted to finish second!

xx | 20 Medhelnia // Parade Of Lights // Feeling Electric لعب ~

FUN. I've enjoyed this detailed write up far too much. I suppose I'm an essay kind of person when I want to be, but don't expect all my posts to be as long, detailed and boring as this in future. Once again I'd just love to reitterate a HUGE thankyou to everyone who felt the urge to give me points, regardless of how many, I really appreciate it and although at the end of the day it's just an internet competition and not particularly too much of a big deal ~ I'm so pleased of my finish and hope that in the future I can emulate these results and provide a few more indie (?) jams for y'all to enjoy. Lets gooooooo.

SUMMARY ~ Indie works! Leave the dance bloc and go for it :P

Thanx guys. Lets hope I don't majorly dissapoint in BJSC 86 and there's plenty more gr8 jams and 18 contenders and variety that can set the contest alight, just like Michael, Bradders, Cody and others did this competition. Byee

:cheer:

Alternative never fails to make a good breakthrough :) PVRIS, Last Lynx, New Politics, Tame Impala, Phantogram, and now Parade Of Lights. Congrats on second!

I'm still hoping to join you on that medal table soon. Until the , I hope you like a Spanglish slutjam, because... that's probably where I'm gravitating towards right now.

Congrats, you've managed to get a really good result faster than most new countries  I think your song basically did what I was trying to do with my own entry (i.e. a wide appealing indie pop song) except much better (in terms of actually connecting with people, hence the much better result ~) Really strong bounce back from coming last in the semi-final last month as well.

Pray for an even number of entries in the next contest now! xx

Yes many congratulations! I knew you moment you posted that teaser this could well be your breakthrough smash but I didn't expect it to finish in 2nd! To get a medal in only your third contest (and first qualification) is a superb achievement - I wonder if you now also broke the record for biggest improvement in finishing positions between 2 contests?

That record is Tinnmark's probably forever - they went from coming effectively 71st in BJSC75 (last in the semi and with lower points than the last place in the other semi) to 2nd in BJSC76. We'll need quite a few new or returning countries again for anyone else to have an opportunity to rival that. There was also Herzebania going from last in the semi in BJSC12 to winning BJSC13. Still a very impressive achievement for Medhelnia of course.
