Express Yourself is a Madonna classic because of the message , it certainly is not a fave of mine though.

It's peak position of 5 is so surprising , I feel this is an underperformance if being honest. I believe cherish even outsold it ?

Is anyone able to find out what tracks were 1-4 ?

The video and the opening of the blond ambition tour are so iconic !!! Wasn't it the second most expensive video of all time (at the time) ?

You can find it by looking it up on Officialcharts.com, it spent 2 weeks at #5.

That. Is. INSANE. Like, properly clinical OFF THE SCALE INSANITY. It isn't just an incredible song, but the video, persona, energy, most of the live performances and the ACTUAL anthem status (you tried Gaga, but failed miserably) make it one of her most important moments for sure. For it not to even be top 10 is....utterly staggering.

As much as I adore the song the sadist in me was HAPPY when writing and posting that only to see your reaction

as it's already been displayed that I was one who gave that a low score I will just say that I have never thought much of it. I find it a bit awkward really, the chorus feels a bit underwhelming. I had no idea it was such a favourite!

:(

Do you like the video at least?

I cannot comprehend how that chorus could be underwhelming unless you went in expecting THE GREATEST THING EVER RECORDED? (which it's NOT FAR FROM BEING).

Boogie woogie...

16. Music // Music // 8.43

(6.5: Joe , Qween // 10: SamJudd, ketalina , jakewild , Chapman , Ultraviolence , Jark )

Beating 'Express Yourself' by a tiny 0.02, is 'Music' the lead single and title track from the hugely successful Music album. 'Music' is about simply about the power of music. It's a heavily produced track, with a catchy hook and strong beat. It peaked at #1 in 25 countries, including Australia, Canada, Italy, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. 'What It Feels Like For a Girl' left the rate back at #48 and 'Don't Tell Me', left just a couple of songs back, meaning 'Music' is the last song from this era in the rate. The video is quite memorable, I remember it being on huge rotation on TV upon release, it features cowboy cat Madonna, limo Madonna, clubbing Madonna, cartoon-Madonna and Ali G, who at one point interrupts the video with his own version of 'Like a Virgin'. Though boasting few low scores and a decent amount of 10s, 'Music' didn't manage any 11s.

Oops at me (and John) giving this its lowest score. I really do find it quite generic for Madonna, and even a little jarring hearing it now, it's sad for me to see it higher than Express Yourself. I think this and Don't Tell Me are both far too high.

That's what I said 'it peaked there'.

Music - what a great fun song !! She always remastered this on tour amazingly well.

16 is a fair position for this track !

Music is good but again it's not a massive favourite of mine although I do love the message of it and it's a lot of fun. The video is iconic too, definitely remember seeing it everywhere at the time. Shouldn't have beaten Express Yourself/Deeper and Deeper..

I did hear it in a club once and it was an experience though *.*

Ugh, THAT. It's just WEAK in every sense, it's like they had about 5 good songs, put them in a blender and strained out all the good stuff to leave a bland pile of nothing. My 6.5 was largely based against the other singles here, if it was by anyone else I would probably actively detest it/give it a 3/4. Add to that her bizarre love for it on tour, when vastly superior songs are left out (and don't even try and play the it's iconic card when she left HUNG UP out in favour of this for the 74th f***ing time).

Yes, I am fully aware. What I am trying to say to you is on that site you will be able to find the charts for each week it appeared and thus find the answer you were looking for, in regards to what was above it on those weeks.

Music is literally the highlight of every tour though. And an enormous audience favourite.

So are Like A Prayer and just about ANY ''Classic'' Madonna single (ie. Pre-American Life, plus Hung Up). It's like Kylie wheeling out LAFS all the time when there are loads of other songs, just as beloved, she COULD DO.

'Music' is about 50 places too high! A song I really don't get the appeal and mass success of, but I guess it sounded groovy and cool in 2000?? If I had voted it would be a 1 MAX (because 'Bitch I'm Madonna' has the -1 on lock). I HONESTLY prefer

autotuned mess that samples it.

'Give It 2 Me' is too low. One of the most underrated songs of her career. Also her last fantastic single.

The other two of my Madonna top three are still in so I'm satisfied overall.

Touched for the very first time

15. Like a Virgin // Like a Virgin // 8.5

(4: dandy*, notfurlong 6: HausofKubrick // 10: Liam, SamJudd, 🌚🌚🌚, Chapman, Kylie Jackson, harryflynn0908, Bjork, princess_lotti, Ultraviolence, jark)

Now to one of Madonna's most signature hits; the one that was her first proper huge single around the world; the one that established the persona of Madonna that we know and love to this date - Like a Virgin. It's a big, bold pop song, much more polished and grander than anything previously heard from Madonna, with its 'Billie Jean'-esque bassline juxaposed with bubblegum pop vocals that are actually quite endearing. The song caused quite the controversy with its blatantly sexual lyrics that suggested someone's love could make you forget all previous encounters and feel like you're experiencing it for the first time so, of course, it appealed to Madonna, who praised the irony and innuendo. She may have a vast amount of more, say, prestigious songs, but this early Madonna classic is still one I regard highly for its charm, its provocative nature and its general ability to make you want to sing and be cheerful.

Surprised that LAV is not top 10.

Can we have an update on how many singles are left from each album ?

Such a fun song! I still see it as her most well known song personally, but she's outdone is so many times.
