July 3, 20169 yr Kudos to Iceland though for getting that far in a major tournament for the first time, hoping they do well in the WC qualifying games. I predicted 3-1 to France in the end.
July 3, 20169 yr Seeing Iceland not give up right until the last minute despite knowing they were outmatched and getting two goals after being 4-0 down was really wonderful, they have been inspirational in this tournament and I take my hat off to them, alongside Wales, they've been the real success stories here. I honestly don't believe we'd have shown anywhere near that level of spirit of it was us there tonight. France v Germany though eeek, I'd have called that as the final before the tournament.
July 3, 20169 yr Author An good game tonight. Dogged determination from Iceland who never gave up. Undoubtedly they have been my favourite team in this championship. I hope to see them in the World Cup.
July 3, 20169 yr How much did you win? £18.75 :D The bookies killed me this week, so I went back to using smaller stakes again. I had France to win and BBTS.
July 4, 20169 yr Iceland did themselves proud in the tournament and showed that they don't have a "small team mentality" as CR7 said a few weeks ago. Their fans were the best and that chant that they do where they clap their hands and say "choo" (or something like that) will always be remembered and I will miss that.
July 4, 20169 yr Gutted for Iceland, especially since they were my sweepstake. Glad they managed to pull back 2 goals so it wasn't a total walkover, just proves they're a very decent side and I hope to see them in the World Cup. That said, France did what frankly England should've done, Iceland were a great team with a lot of heart but England has one of the (if not the) biggest footballing leagues in the world with a population over 100x bigger than Iceland's- France's performance just shows how awfully the (England) team's been managed- full of underperforming overpaid players that don't work well with each other or even seem to care that much. July 5, 20169 yr Have a look at this, it's pretty amazing! I wonder which country will be celebrating with the European Championship trophy next week? ?v=mav2kkvakGY
July 6, 20169 yr It was a tall order for Wales plus having Ramsay suspended had some effect probably, but they have played so well to get to the semis, it just feels Portugal got there by default into an easy draw. I just feel the winner of this competition will come tomorrow neither way I'm not too fussed, France been host do look like the winners, but I think Germany have got the edge.
July 6, 20169 yr I feel sorry for Wales, it would have been nice for them to win and also a wonderful tribute to Gary Speed but it wasn't to be. Portugal must be the luckiest team in Euro history, they couldn't even finish in the top 2 in their group, have won only ONE match in 90 mins. I will be supporting France or Germany in the final. Tomorrow's match is the final in my view, I think it would have been the actual final if France and Germany were put into different sides of the knockout stage draw. They've been the two favourites for the competition from way before the tournament even started and the winner of this match will have too much for Portugal.
July 6, 20169 yr While their success has undeniably been fluky, I think that match was the best I've seen Portugal play and (as I expected) Wales did look a hell of a lot weaker with a few of their more notable players out, especially when Bale was literally trying to do everything, I can't argue it was an unfair result. I am sad for them, but Wales can leave with their heads held high, much like Iceland (hell a Wales v Iceland final would've been the perfect reflection of their journeys). July 6, 20169 yr Author Wales can be very proud of their performance throughout the tournament. I'll be very surprised if they didn't qualify for the World Cup. That Mark Bowen who commentated alongside Clive on ITV was awful. He spoke more than the lead commentator and was very repetitive. Portugal's record against France + Germany is very poor with France winning the last 10 matches they've played each other and Germany winning in the last 4 times they've played in an tournament and it was where Pepe got sent off in the 2014 World Cup. It could be a very close game between France + Germany hopefully more entertaining than their 2014 World Cup quarter final match. It will be an poignant affair with them playing for the first time since the awful events of last November.
July 6, 20169 yr Crazy to think under the old format Portugal would have been out in the Group Stage (of course it's not as easy to state it just like that as had they known the parameters they probably would have won at least 1 group match). Shame of all nights they chose tonight to finally turn up! Amazing achievement from Wales, shame the 12 year sequence of a shock winner won't continue in 2016. I fancy Germany to take it still.
July 7, 20169 yr Amazing achievement from Wales, shame the 12 year sequence of a shock winner won't continue in 2016. I fancy Germany to take it still. Portugal could count given how they've mostly stumbled their way to the final this time and have never actually gone all the way before - but they have done too consistently well in other tournaments to be a true shock winner. At least they didn't do yet another scrapey victory this time or I'd really resent them in the final (as it is I'm still team whoever wins tonight but not in the sense that Portugal look outright villains).
July 7, 20169 yr Author Portugal will face a drubbing against either France + Germany in the final. I think Germany will edge this 2-1 in extra time against France. Wales still can be very proud of their achievement.
