Euro 96 was when I started getting into football. That Gazza miss in extra time and the Southgate penalty miss still hurts :(

That Euro 96 documentary on BBC One was awesome! England would have won that tournament I think if Gazza didn't miss that chance in extra time, Germany definitely know how to screw England over in semi finals.

I'm sure there will be at least one penalty shootout at the Euros this year.

They'llbe showing a repeat of the Euro 96 semi-final between England and Germany on Wednesday at 7:00pm on the BBC website and on the Red Buttonnas if it were happening now.
Mack, would I be able to run a rolling predicta for the tournament where you predict the scores every night? I'd really like to do that for a bit of fun and I'd be totally up for hosting it if that's okay with you.

Back to the game still goalless not creating opportunities at the moment following Portugal going down to 10 men after a horrific high tackle on Kane.

Renato Sanchez on for Portugal - heading to Bayern for 70m this summer!

What? Who even is he

Will Alves be banned for their game against Iceland?

I'm sure he'll get a 3 match ban. Rooney was banned for the first two matches of Euro 2012 for receiving a red in a preceding game.

However that match was a competitive game, affiliated with the Euros. This is only a friendly.

Oh is that how it's governed? Pretty shocking if so, could break a guys legs & get no real punishment other than missing the rest of a pointless friendly.

I agree. We'll see though, I wouldn't be surprised if UEFA take it into their own hands.

1-0! Great, this will be a fantastic morale boost.

This is so typical England though, winning all the friendlies then screwing it up when it matters...

Yep. I hate to expect much as I know I'll be let down.

A decent 1-0 win - we wern't great once again however I think it was a huge improvement on the Turkey & Australia games. Maybe not so much in terms of attack but our defence has improved two fold today, we looked more composed and relaxed.

I only watched the 2nd half - seems like I didn't miss much. From watching the first 20 mins it just makes me think what I always thought, the diamond 4-4-2 is poor. We have no width or pace and the players centrally all want the same space. Having Vardy, Kane, Ali and Rooney as 4 of your front 6 is just madness. I don't think the shape suits the players at all. 2 up front is all good on paper, but has looked truly terrible when I've seen it over the past 2 games.

18 year old sensation that United and half the big European clubs are after. William Carvalho is a good player too!

With Rooney an absolute cert to start it's Vardy that needs to be dropped, he's just not effective when not playing like Leicester, he'd be ok to start against a team where we'll have little possession but that's not likely to happen until we reach the quarter finals, or coming off the bench but he's so ineffective otherwise.

I enjoyed last night because hopefully it showed Roy that trying to cram so many form forward players into the team will get us nowhere. Wilshere must start, and stick Sterling in as a proper winger, with Alli playing much narrower on the other side and interchanging with Rooney like he does so well with Eriksen at Spurs.

Never thought I'd say this but we're only missing one player who could be described as even vaguely important through injury and I actually think it'd be difficult to lose anyone of greater importance than Danny Welbeck, he's made Roy's England teams tick since he's played him with a really good goalscoring record internationally, we're always better with him on the left.

This isn't just a Hodgson problem, it's an England problem. We won our group easily and now we're worrying about which formation best suits Rooney. It's honestly ridiculous. It's horrible to see the media try and shoe horn players in to the team as well as accommodate the system to fit in the superstars. Rooney plays up front or not at all. If you're playing with two strikers then no matter how many goals Vardy has scored this season, Sturridge is a better striker.
