June 5, 20169 yr We probably looked more coherent when we switched to 4-3-3 with Sterling, Sturridge and Lallana all playing in their proper positions. With Rooney an absolute cert to start it's Vardy that needs to be dropped, he's just not effective when not playing like Leicester, he'd be ok to start against a team where we'll have little possession but that's not likely to happen until we reach the quarter finals, or coming off the bench but he's so ineffective otherwise. I enjoyed last night because hopefully it showed Roy that trying to cram so many form forward players into the team will get us nowhere. Wilshere must start, and stick Sterling in as a proper winger, with Alli playing much narrower on the other side and interchanging with Rooney like he does so well with Eriksen at Spurs. Never thought I'd say this but we're only missing one player who could be described as even vaguely important through injury and I actually think it'd be difficult to lose anyone of greater importance than Danny Welbeck, he's made Roy's England teams tick since he's played him with a really good goalscoring record internationally, we're always better with him on the left. The main problem seemed to be that Vardy and Kane followed the Portugal full backs all the way back, which made it less of a diamond and more of a 4-3-3 with everyone playing out of position. In a diamond it should be the two wider CMs closing down the full backs as soon as they move past the defensive line and into the midfield, leaving the strikers free in the channels if we win the ball back. We played it really well in Switzerland 18 months ago with Delph in particular showing how it should be done.
June 5, 20169 yr Soccer Aid a charity match between England vs Rest Of The World is on ITV tonight at 6PM. Celebrities including Olly Murs, John Bishop, Paddy McGuiness and Jack Whitehall are taking part. Jaap Stam, Edgar Davids, Dimitar Berbatov & Cafu are among the players on the Rest Of The World team. It should definitely be a fun and funny match to watch if the last match is anything to go by  ?v=Uyjdjm2tbDE
June 7, 20169 yr Bbc pundits are saying Englabd could be Euro2016's Leicester??!! Surely someone like Wales or Iceland would be more appropriate for that link.
June 7, 20169 yr What? The 4th favourites can't exactly be Leicester - the near least favourites. Strange article choice, if it's just a ploy to try and make people optimistic it's not exactly working for me. Edited June 7, 20169 yr by Mdh
June 7, 20169 yr The 'Leicester' by virtue of only narrowly being able to be here would be Albania, got straight through the qualifying group instead going to the playoff sections (where they would have likely lost) because of their match against Serbia being awarded to them. Not that they're going to do anything here. I'm not TOO up on my Premier League comparisons but... England look like more of a Liverpool.
June 8, 20169 yr I've just seen that the Euro 2012 thread had 23 pages overall. We can definitely beat that this year!
June 8, 20169 yr They'llbe showing a repeat of the Euro 96 semi-final between England and Germany on Wednesday at 7:00pm on the BBC website and on the Red Buttonnas if it were happening now. This is on right now!
June 8, 20169 yr Author Text and online live coverage (UK Users Only): http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/36258250 And also the match is on the BBC Red Button.
June 8, 20169 yr I really wish the Golden Goal would come back into football. Watching this repeat of the Euro 96 semi final between Germany and England I can see how tense it must have been at the time which makes for great entertainment if you're a neutral.
June 8, 20169 yr I've just seen that the Euro 2012 thread had 23 pages overall. We can definitely beat that this year! Without a doubt! In fact, I dare say we will pull off over 100 pages with all the other threads taken into consideration, the sport forum is without a doubt the best place to be right now.
June 9, 20169 yr Omg we did a sweepstake at school and I got France *.* I think there like one of the favourites to win so I'm really happy with that! (and my friend and I also put a £10 bet on that our own country would do better than the country the other one got so he should hopefully be giving me £10 *.*) (I never do well in sweepstakes as well! )
June 9, 20169 yr Yeah, I did one at school for my class and I got Spain (I didn't cheat I promise) so hoping they do well although I will still root for England primarily! :D
June 9, 20169 yr Author I got France on DalekTurret32's sweepstake. I'm hoping that the football will be remembered in this tournament.
June 9, 20169 yr It'll be interesting to see - after the first 14 days of the tournament we will only down to 16 teams lol
