I think Villa will just accept anyone with proven experience right now regardless of their history. McLeish was obviously unpopular due to the fact he came directly from Brum & just wasn't very good really (granted he did win the League Cup) but got relegated twice as well.

Zola has not got a good track record as a manager from memory, relegation battle when he was with West Ham is what I seem to remember.
