I hope Finland win a medal soon.

God yes, not just because I like them but they need to keep up with Sweden on their 100+ year streak.

I think they have a chance in sailing from what's going on so far in the laser radial and they've often been strong in javelin so they may well get a couple before the games are up.

Seeing as according to *Tim is just about GB winning medals.

Are any sports that you don't think should be at the Olympics?

No. If I'm honest the addition of Rugby Sevens gives it a bit more variety - previous to this Olympics there was a distinct lack of Team physical sports.

I'll update the medal's table tomorrow morning :D

I think the only one I'm still struggling to get to grips with is the Equestrian events, but it's clearly got enough support to be an Olympic sport and it adds some variety to the schedule! I think as many sports as possible should be included in the Olympics, if you're able to have a 'world championships' for a sport then I feel it justifies a place in the Olympics as there's enough competition!

THE EQUESTRIAN EVENTS ARE THE BEST ONES

I'm already looking forward to seeing how they'll incorporate the likes of skateboarding and surfing. I think I'd broadly agree with that Klumzee.

Except for things like golf, tennis and football, which already get lots of coverage in non-Olympic ways, they shouldn't really be focused on even though golf and tennis especially are likely to have big names so the temptation is for the media to focus on them. That and that with golf being added now, it is a high barrier sport which more than most skews the entire competition in favour of rich countries. I don't want to exclude it, just it not to get focus.

Nothing wrong with the equestrian events although I can see with the dressage and the dancing horses.

Yes Klumzee, I would love to see synchronised skating in 2022. There is a World Championships for it. It will be in Beijing for 2022 Winter Olympics.

I find Rugby really boring, and I hate Golf with passion, 2 sports I rather do without., 2020 to introduce tiddlywinks and Dominoes. :D

And Great Britain are through in the finals of the Rugby Sevens by beating South Africa 7-5. At least it's the short format.

I feel like excluding any sports would be going against the Olympic spirit as it's meant to showcase the best of all competitive sports all together, that said, if I had to say one sport to go, it would be football. I guess because they already have such huge international events with the Euros and the World Cup that get as much coverage as the Olympics themselves, and the football just always seems a bit of an afterthought in the event? It even starts before the Opening Ceremony begins

Only time I ever notice Olympic football's on (except possibly when it comes down to the finals but we'll see, there'll probably be some high priority athletics at the same time which of course trumps it) because I've been Olympic starved for over 2 years and will take anything. :kink: I'd keep it for that if nothing else.

Sorry, *Tim but GB have won a gold medal in the men's team sprint.

What is your stance on people who have had doping bans allowed to complete at the Olympics? Personally I think they should be banned for life and should never be allowed to complete at the Games at all.

Well we're doing awfully in this rugby final. Ah well, good on Fiji for kicking off their medal career with a gold. Maybe to keep getting it with rugby being a new thing.

At least GB is getting its cycling mojo back.

Ethiopia's Almaz Ayana smashes the women's 10000m world record (a 23 year-old one as well) by nearly 14 seconds :o That is absolutely incredible.
Are any sports that you don't think should be at the Olympics?

Shooting shouldn't be in the olympics. It's not a sport...

Congratulations to Ayana with the new world record on 10.000m.

And not to forget the winner of bronze in lightweight double sculls, my country now have TWO bronze

Shooting is actually one of the most impressive things to watch at the Olympics IMO... it amazes me that these shooters are able to hit any of the targets at all, let alone as consistently as they do.

The women's 10k result is absolutely astonishing, such a long-held world record shattered so effortlessly!

Fabulous to see 2 rowing golds for GB today as well putting us at a clear 4th in the medal table for now :D

(Also I think as many sports as possible should be at the Olympics! It's a great opportunity for less well known sports to get some attention with a worldwide audience. The football and tennis tournaments seem a little bit superfluous admittedly but they should still be there as the event is a celebration of all sports)
