Sadly three amazing songs in Avalon, Supremacy and Silenced By The Night aren't that far ahead of it. In fact, this is a great year but in my opinion, the voters here seemed determined to make the results a bit awful (a fair amount of the best songs are AQed to be fair there). A couple of songs that were in last year's final miss out, including the two that missed out AQing by a mere one place, Porter Robinson's Language and Frank Ocean's Pyramids, both of genres that tend to have a tough time attracting votes here. Real shame for the beautiful Language, which misses out by less than 10 points. Rita Ora's How We Do was also in last time but that's not the case this time, we've slain at least some of the generic. Bangarang and My Kind Of Love are both very close, a bit sadly for both as the latter is one of the better Emeli songs and the former is delightful in its craziness for a hit. 26th 199 25th 199 24th 199 2nd 317 1st 317 Yes, that's a 3-way tie across the qualification zone, so the 26th placed song also makes it in to give 2012 a 61-song final. And there was a tie for winning this round at the top also. Alicia Keys' Girl On Fire, Christina Perri's year-based-system-confounding A Thousand Years, Labrinth's power ballad Beneath Your Beautiful, Ke$ha's club anthem Die Young, The Wanted's Chasing The Sun, and somehow, Jessie J and Justin Bieber have muscled their way past several Buzzjack haters (perhaps less unusually for the latter as it's a common ROTD trend that catalogue songs do well when the artist has just had a popular year).

July 9, 20168 yr Author I often wonder this when I add up the votes (although I love Owl City there are just as many types of pop that I dislike that do well). I think every year I've become progressively more indie-focused as I listen to more music - by now I know nearly every song that gets nominated well - unfortunately as the people on here who like that sort of music progressively don't vote in larger numbers, on a contrast, the people who like pop music always remember to vote.
